Holloway - confirmed at Blackpool

He can do a job. Small club similar to Plymouth, who don't have any ridiculous high expectations [like we have]. No money to spend, like at Plymouth, so his wheeling and dealing looking for gems in the foreign market will come very handy at Blackpool. Holloway would seriously be a good move for Blackpool.

Hi, Pool fan here.

As you may or may not know we are in the process of finding a new manager. It's been reported on our local radio "It is understood that Holloway has been offered the job."

Whether it's definite or not I just wondered what your views on his abilities as a manager would be like bearing in mind he's had time out.

I appreciate he took you down a division, so if you can put that to the back of your mind, if it's possible.

PS: DJ Campbell has been a wonder for us, just hope Holloway, if he gets the job, signs him up.

His stint at leicester was a bad one, but he has had previous success with other clubs. For me, it's a gamble, I personally think he was found out at city and with blackpool I feel he will either do really well or get you relegated, there's no inbetween!!!!

He will do well at Blackpool. As I said in the other thread, he can do a job. Small club, no disrespect, similar to Plymouth, who don't have any ridiculous high expectations [like we have]. He had a good scouting network set up at Plymouth and he brought some fine players to their club. It's when he makes a step up to a bigger club that's when he gets found out. Holloway just wasn't the right man for us at the end.

No offence taken. We are a very small club (didn't used to be of course historically)

We seem to be survivng in the CCC by clever use of the loan system. Trouble is you bring in a player from a club who has rarely had 1st team experience, they start performing and then some wealthier club snap them off you.

What would Holloway make of this maybe excessive use of the loan system do you think?

I like Holloway, he amuses me as a person and I think he's decent as a manager.

He came to Leicester at an awful time which didn't help but I think his biggest problem here was bottle. He did well at QPR, he did well at Plymouth and he clearly understands the Championship and League One. What struck me about his time here is that he always seemed a little bit overawed.

I'm not one of these moron Leicester fans that believes our hype and thinks we're an enormous side but I don't think he had the strength that Pearson does that was needed to deal with the pressure of the club and most importantly to say 'no' to the Chairman. We have a meddling owner who loves to get involved with the football and I think Holloway let him do so far too much - it'd be very interesting to know which signings were IH's and which were Mandaric's.

All in all I think Ollie was in the wrong place at the wrong time here and I won't join the bandwagon of calling him inept because he quite simply isn't. You don't become a shit manager overnight. I'd be happy with the appointment if I were a Blackpool fan.

Expect to see him in the papers and on the tv every day, trying to be funny. Because of the person he is, I think the players see him as more of a mate than a manger.

I've always rated DJ, when he's fit and getting regular first team football, he'll be pushing the 20 goal barrier in the championship. He was signed for us under Martin Allen, and started off really well, but when Allen left, he never really seemed interested as, he has a very good relationship with him. The day Allen got sacked, DJ was not impressed.

He will use the loan market effectively. And he would be looking to sign good players on peanuts or freebies, which is pretty much what Blackpool need. I think he likes to dip in to the foreign market, where he found players such as Halmosi, Seip and whatnot. And also, Holloway generally knows when he sees a good footballer, not always, but generally.

I like Holloway. I think he is a good man and a decent manager. It just wasn't to be at our club, wrong club and wrong time. I'm not gonna jump on the bandwagon and think he's dogshite. He was a decent manager then, and he is a decent manager now. You don't turn shit overnight.

Agree with what Finners said.... hes a nice guy but definately couldnt hack the pressure at City. When the going got tough he was clueless and resorted to cracking badger jokes. Hope he does well for you, I have a soft spot for Blackpool

What happened to Tony Parkes ?

He worked wonders for Blackpool towards the end of the season, surely he would of been better than Holloway.

Also you might be getting Brian Reid, ex Pool and currently at Ayr United.

Looks like its between 3, Holloway, Knill or Ried.

I would of stuck with Parkes and Steve Thompson personally though.

There's an echo in here.

His record is pretty mediocre really though. If he wasn't a bit of a 'cheeky chappie' I don't think he'd be in work, whatever his qualities.

You are stealing my thoughts.

You might as well write on behalf of both of us. And I will just sit back with my joint and agree with you.

He did well at Plymouth. And Plymouth are similar size to Blackpool, especially in terms of expectations and finances.

What did he accomplish really apart from getting them a bit higher up the Championship table though? I'm not saying he's a terrible manager, just that he's got nothing to really boast about on his CV to date and he's living off his media reputation, much like Bryan Robson still somehow gets work due to his international reputation.

But that's their level though. You can't expect him to do anything other than that on a shoestring budget.

He's a chancer, he was lucky to find some gems at plymouth, he tried the same formula at city, and they were duffers. He showed very little tactical knowledge, especially the last game of the season, a game where he played a full debutant centre back in a midfield role, WTF was that about!!!

I believe he'd have taken Plymouth a little further without the board constantly selling his best assets from beneath him to keep the club going. There's no real fingure pointing needs doing, Plymouth just aren't a great club and all things considered I think he did remarkably well both there and at QPR.

Was manager of QPR when the played LCFC in the worst game I've every witnessed with theatrical cheating players, time wasting, faking injuries, diving you name it QPR did it.

Never wanted him at LCFC.

Seems a decent bloke outside of football, read his book and comes across as a decent human being but I wouldn't want him anywhere near any club I supported.
