Guest Bilo Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 He might do well at Blackpool, was well out of his depth here but at a club so similar to the Plymouth side where he enjoyed such success, he might surprise a few people. I actually like him as a person and feel he was unfairly scapegoated by some for our relegation, I wish him all the best if true because it won't be easy for him to keep the Pool in this division. Last chance saloon for him though, if he takes Blackpool down he will really struggle to find another job in management.
dandannieldanok Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 If you look at Plymouth now, finishing 21st, then you realise what a good job Holloway did there (or perhaps a lucky streak with good players ). Blackpool can't really have higher ambitions than to simply survive in the Championship, they'll have one of the smallest budgets next season no doubt. I think Holloway would just about keep them up, although saying that when we hired him relegation didn't cross my mind once so I'll probably be wrong again.
C-man Posted 20 May 2009 Posted 20 May 2009 I was always a fan whilst he was in the job, but looking back, we clearly made the correct decision in getting rid. When he first came in, he said it himself: The squad was a joke. In January I thought he'd take us forward, he seemed to make the signings that we needed at the time and we had a couple of decent results, but never two in a row. I don't know what happened, whether he lost the dressing room or was just completely inept tactically, but he started picking odd looking teams and in the end he just wasn't good enough. He could do well for Blackpool, but it'd be nice to get 6 points off him next year
Leicesterboi Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 I like Holloway! He's a character and puts Clubs on the Map. He's not as daft as he appears with all his media appearances. When at small clubs it's not a bad thing to get yourself out there and get noticed at the chance of gaining new fans etc. I think he will be a good appointment. Best of luck to him
lou Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 I like Holloway too............. as long as he isnt our Manager!
Darkzzz_ Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 He is history now. I don't hold any grudges. He was part of a very bad time for the club. Holloway is a decent man but the jury is still out on his managerial skills in my book. I was far from convinced. Good luck to him at Blackpool and let's hope we can turn them over. Bert mentioned something similar, it does have a Holloway haunting written all over it and if he does get the job we will get beat by his team, you can bet on that.
Milky Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 He's a complete clown. Tactically inept in my humble opinion. Fryatt and Hayles on the wings just one of many square peg delights. He cracked under the pressure aswell. That interview on sky just before the stoke game will live long in the memory. A broken man. The guys in the studio said "well it looks like leicester have been relegated already looking at Ollie there"
CosbehFox Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 PS: DJ Campbell has been a wonder for us, just hope Holloway, if he gets the job, signs him up. He won't. They don't get along. What happened to Tony Parkes ? Paltry salary offer and his wife is ill. He's not as daft as he appears with all his media appearances. He is. He meant alright with Football but anything else! Verdict's out on Holloway. Rubbish here and didn't have the bottle. Got on at Plymouth but produced one of the most horrible teams to watch at QPR. I don't he get the financial support at Blackpool he requires - not just on players but on his back-up team.
Houdini Logic Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 He was either incredibly lucky at his other clubs or incredibly unluckily at Leicester - either way he left our club in a state. If he has to make use of the loan system at Blackpool then expect an influx of middle aged has beens(/ never quite weres) who's parent clubs would rather get a few £ a week than let them rot in the reserves....
WardyisPukka Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 The question is are we going to give him a good reception when they play us at the Walkers ??
Craig Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 The question is are we going to give him a good reception when they play us at the Walkers ?? Are we fook
Darkzzz_ Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 The question is are we going to give him a good reception when they play us at the Walkers ?? I'm going to clap him. Yes.
Houdini Logic Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 The question is are we going to give him a good reception when they play us at the Walkers ?? He's probably a very shrewd man deep down and put's on the silly front as a defence so no-one can turn against him. Who could boo the poor man? I think songs about being sh*t are apt though...
Milky Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 na na na na na na na, fook off Holloway! Holloway! fook off Holloway!
lookwhaticando Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 He's just been unveiled there. beeb. I see they have more faith in him than Mandaric did... they've given him a MASSIVE one-year deal.
Koke Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 He brought Matt Oakley for 500k. Best piece of business any of our managers in the last 5 years have made [bar Pearson of course].
Houdini Logic Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Who closed the songs thread?! Those were the days my friend, I'm glad they had to end, You were a joker, but there's something I must say, You could have helped the blues, Rather than take off your shoes, For your tactics, they left us in dismay...
lavrentis Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 I wish him well on his managerial career with Blackpool.
billyfox1 Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 I suppose some one was going to appoint him eventually. He can't do a worse job than he did here so good luck to him
Joe. Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 Fair play, we'll see how he gets on in the Championship again. He royally fucked up with us, but he's showed he can do the business with so-called 'lesser' clubs (i.e. Plymouth). Still think they'll go down though.
dandannieldanok Posted 21 May 2009 Posted 21 May 2009 He brought Matt Oakley for 500k. Best piece of business any of our managers in the last 5 years have made [bar Pearson of course]. No good buying players if you can't get the best out of them like Pearson has. Oakley was well-known anyway, his lesser known picks like Bori and Zsolt were terrible.
