Away Support - League 1 Averages

Cov are the most pointless club in the Midlands [bar maybe Birmingham City]. Absolute pointless. If they disappeared all together, I doubt anyone would notice.

I can't believe Doncaster are that high up. Fair play to them.

First season at second tier level for 50 years though. Once the excitement fades expect the numbers to fall back.

Very little between us and the top Championship clubs to be fair. I'd like to think we can make the top 5 average away attendances next season. All depends how we get on I suppose.

We'll do that easily. Our average this season was brought down a bit by smaller allocations at the garden shed clubs and next season we'll have local games at Covscum, Forest and the Shaggers to really take it back up. Plus we'll be able to fill a few of the empty seats at St James's too.

I bet we sell less than 2500 to St. James'.

So how did Dirty Leeds manage to average about 400 more than us?

Our average was more than likely brought down by our mid-week away games being some of the farthest journeys during the season.

As for those laughing at Cov's figures; what were our figures for last season, as the attendance at some of our aways weren't far off shocking at times!

being quite centrally placed geographically possibly helps boost our number of away support as very few places are more than 2/3 hours away

but it is still impressive

Our away support was down to new grounds, our excellent form and dare I say it cheaper prices?

Still doesnt change the fact we took less than 500 to Hull, Burnley, Colchester, Scunny and I'm sure there were a few others the season before.

Wolves was a pisspoor attendance too.

Let's be brutally honest here. Leeds and Huddersfield are probably the only ones with any right to be especially proud of those figures, given the size of our club, the cheaper tickets and our league position and form.

Carlisle also, for them to out of the bottom 10 I find incredible given that it's a good 80 miles until they hit another league football club whereas we've got probably got a good 30 inside that area.

They sure took alot more to us than we did to them.

Yeah add them to the list. I remember in the pub beforehand a few of us were saying they'd be lucky to bring 200/300, which they put to shame.

Have they ever played Leicester?

If not then we'll take a lot to each other.

Just found the Championship for comparison:

Wolves..............2808.9

Sheff Utd...........2316.3

Nottingham For...2046.4

Derby Cty..........2009.9

Sheffield Wed.....1922.3

Birmingham C....1739.8

Doncaster R.......1508.5

Reading.............1439.9

Ipswich T...........1369.3

Burnley..............1339.9

Cardiff C............1332.1

QPR...................1329.1

Bristol C.............1308.3

Blackpool............1304.9

Norwich C...........1221.1

Barnsley.............1200.6

Swansea C..........1134.2

Crystal Palace.....1090.1

Watford................868.0

Preston North End..798.1

Charlton A.............708.0

Derby's and Forest's figures are inflated by the fact they took 4 500 to each other's fixtures. And Sheff U took 8k to a game at Hillsborough.

So in real terms, we're probably 3rd behind Leeds (who have a far bigger fanbase anyway) and Wolves.

Well, if that number ain't something to be proud of...

One can assume that the away support will even increase one level higher.

Doubt that tbh, but I hope your right.

They also took about 8k to Crystal Palace on the last day of the season.

Re: Cov. If you have a shit home support, then you gotta at least sort out your away support. Coventry have neither. Sheffield Wednesday have a poor home attendance [for all sorts of reasons] but at least they have a solid reputation for being excellent away fans, both in numbers and in voices - Last year our away support was meh, but at least we had a respectable home support that we could be proud of.

What about the 4k we took to MK and P'boro?

Next seasons away stats are the real loyalty prover regarding the East Midlands.

Well thats true, it was the other way round this year.

I just hope the fans who enjoyed this season so much will continue going away next year, like me. Its not the fact I was disloyal or part-timer, but I hardly ever went any aways until this seson where I went 16. I'm hoping to go 23 next year and 19 year after ;) I just hope our fans take that kind of attitude and if they do we will have one hell of an away support next year.

Just curious,what does meh mean?

Tickets will be more expensive this and even more so the following year - some people can't afford it.

Going to away matches will cost about 3/4 times more than homes games if you've got a ST.

It's not just about attitude and loyalty.

Just another to add to the long list of things we've won this season!

Birmingham's is terrible considering they haven't been out of the Top 3 all season. Poxy club, poxy fans.
