Darkzzz_ Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Mike Parry is a right bell end, to anyone listening or who does listen to talk sport. Townsend actually talks more sense on the radio. Looking forward to what the boys have to say on todays football weekly, Barry Glendenning was taking the piss out of Sky last night on his minute by minute. Richard Keys (every time) " The premiership is the best league in the world" he must say it over 50 times per game.
Koke Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Nathko, how come you got such strong allegiances to Barcelona? Are you from there. Family connections? We all have our favourite foreign football club, but you feel very strong about Barcelona?

Edit: Good evening everybody, and a very warm welcome to one and all of you wherever you may be. Here's hoping for a wonderful game of football between Manchester United and Barcelona in Rome's Stadio Olimpico tonight. Before we get on with the fun, a brief safety announcement: the fire exits are there, here and off down there. Pleasantries and formalities over, now we can get on with the ... oh, for the love and honour of sweet baby jesus, Sky anchorman Richard Keys is already saying that "on nights like these we're all Englishmen" ... to an audience that boasts Dutchman Ruud Gullit and Scotland's Graeme Souness and Planet Inanity's Jamie Redknapp. Obviously he's implying that everyone in England wants Manchester United to win when he must know by now that nothing could be further from the truth. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/ma...nchester-united

We all have our favourite foreign football club, but you feel very strong about Barcelona? I have no family out there, just always liked them, me and a few mates have been going out to Barcelona every year since 2000, just love the city, the club, everything about Barcelona. It is a wonderful experience and I have been lucky enough to see some world class footballers over the years. Rivaldo is still the one that excited me more than anyone though. The best striker I seen play at the Camp Nou was Fernando Torres for Atletico, February 2005, he destroyed Barcelona in a 2-0 victory. Barca fans stood and applauded him, that was special.

That's nice. They are a good big proud club and they have a quite unique and special tradition. I've always liked Barca, and especially because Madrid are everyone's enemy.
Uncle Albert Posted 28 May 2009 Author Posted 28 May 2009 Great final and the right team won on the night. United looked good first 9 minutes but as soon as Eto'o scored I can only think of one clear cut chance United had when Ronaldo had his shot saved from Valdes late on in the game. Very poor showing from the English Champions I thought. I was speaking to Nathko before the match saying I wish Gerrard and Lampard could have the connection that Iniesta and Xavi have and last night they ran the show, both quality. Iniesta for saying he wasnt fully fit was by far the best player on the pitch. Xavi's ball for Messi's goal again was quality. I was really surprised at how easy Barca defended againt United for saying they had key players missing for them at the back. Rooney was very poor for United. The Ronaldo v Messi battle wasnt really a battle because honestly both werent at their best but Messi had his clear cut chance and he took so fairplay to him. Honestly I thought Ronaldo was one of United's better players last night, ran his bollocks off and any little chance United had came through him. All in all brilliant game. Shame the camera views were pretty shocking.
Koke Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Ronaldo was one of their better players. He worked hard and tried his best. But because of the lack of service and the fact that he was playing lone striker with Rooney pushed to the wing meant that it would be a tough night for him. And it was .
Edmund Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Was anyone else surprised by how quiet a game Rooney had? Hardly made an impact. I suppose he didn't get much service.
lcfc_jme Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Oh, and how immense was Pique's last-ditch block on Park early-doors?! Inspirational and essentially match-winning challenge.
Koke Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Was anyone else surprised by how quiet a game Rooney had? Hardly made an impact. I suppose he didn't get much service. He was practically playing right in in the 2nd half. He gets sacrificed up front for Ronaldo because a) Ronaldo scores a lot of goals and b) Ronaldo is too lazy to bloody defend whilst Rooney will run his bollocks off for the team. I miss Rooney the striker because he is an outstanding footballer and he is very limited player on the wing. Yet another player who is victim of his own versatility.
Darkzzz_ Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 To be fair, Ronaldo did try his best, he just didn't have the service. The fact that Messi was dropping off and playing that triangle with Xavi and Iniesta just gave him that edge in my opinion. I was surprised more than anyone at how Barca's defence played. Or were maybe allowed to play because of the lack of threat. Only a fool would rule United out, they will be licking their wounds and they will come back stronger, they are an amazing team, what a season they have had, they lost graciously last night and I respect them for that. If these two can keep that level up with a few more teams improving in Europe next season, next seasons CL will be bloody amazing.
Fox You Forest Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Was anyone else surprised by how quiet a game Rooney had? Hardly made an impact. I suppose he didn't get much service. I had a fiver on Rooney to score first, I believe either him or Ferguson owe me a fiver when I've decided which I'll be writing to them.

"Their heads are on swivels!" exclaims Jamie Redknapp in Sky central, marvelling at Xavi and Iniesta's ability to see what's going on around them. "Their heads are on swivels!" he repeats. Yes Jamie, their heads are on swivels ... and so is yours. It's called your neck.

welck12 Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Yeah I feel for him. He is really an out and out striker. You cant say rooney is an out and out striker; he never has been and never will be. He's perfect for the gap just behind the striker in the same mold as sheringham. That way he can still influence the play, wander a little bit, score the odd goal and cause general havoc. He's never been an out and out (even at everton and we all now how they struggle for strikers) and dont think he ever will be.
Edmund Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 Fair play to Uncle Albert. Honest analysis. The brown nosing doesn't stop does it with you. This is a joke

I know he has adapted his game now but im sure he started as a striker, in fact im pretty confident of it. The fact is last night he didn't do what he is known for and that is attacking the defenders with the ball at feet and causing the goalkeeper trouble as well as assisting team mates.

Exactly. Last night Rooney and Ronaldo's attitudes swapped last night for me. You usually see Rooney the one really determined to win the ball and fly into tackles and try and lift the team but that was Ronaldo last night doing that, I'm not saying thats a good thing because Ronaldo's tackle was dangerous on Puyol in the second half but last night Rooney looked like he was exhausted and couldnt be arsed seriously.

Ronaldo was a massive threat 1st half but for me was awful 2nd half , hands on hips and more interested in pissing Puyol off , even if Puyol is a big girls blouse
Koke Posted 28 May 2009 Posted 28 May 2009 He's being asked to play in positions where he isn't really good at. Puyol who is decent but nothing special had Rooney's number last night. It's just so frustrating to see his talent wasted on right or left wing when he is at his best playing striker or second striker. But Ronaldo scores more goals so he will always be preferred.

I think Fergie needs to be a little more flexible with his tactics in that sense. Pick a formation based on team strength rather than working the team round the formation if that makes sense. A Rooney/Tevez strike force would have been a arms house.
