Leicester_Mad Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 There are reports up in Scotland that he is here training for us. I think he will be a good signing and if the rumours of Gillespie going are true i think this could be possible. Stumbling block could be his wages though
FNQ Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 What about someone NOT in the SPL? I doubt we could get him anyway.

Link 103608 i think hes a bit of both, more attacking than defending though. I think we could get him as he doesnt play for Celtic and he was brilliant against Basle and Liverpool in the CL but pretty poor since. Maybe a move to a competitive but not greatly skilled league might help
Ricey Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 From what I've seen he is a good player, got a bit of pace about him.
still tynie Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 Is not training with the foxes as was playing 4the celtic 2nd string the other day, is an attacking left wing back, was also linked with Hearts
Jonbluefox9 Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 an attacking left wing back Sylla left wing back and Maybury right wing back possibly? He'd fill the role better than Tiatto and maybe Stewart too imo.
Little Nicky Posted 5 May 2005 Posted 5 May 2005 mohammed who? 103710 ditto mate, er no thanks, I'll stick with Jordan thankyou!
Steven Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 Sylla is strongly linked again, by tonight. Sylla on verge of move to LeicesterKENNETH STEPHEN CELTIC midfielder Momo Sylla is training at Leicester City and will know tonight whether manager Craig Levein wishes to make him his fifth signing since leaving Hearts. Levein has already been linked with a summer move for Celtic and Scotland keeper Rab Douglas. However, he has moved first to take Parkhead’s want-away wing-back Sylla to the Walkers Stadium for assessment with a view to signing the £750,000 player. Sylla, who is also attracting the attention of one English Premiership outfit, travelled to the Midlands on Wednesday evening and trained with Levein and the squad yesterday. Levein has told the Sierra Leone-born player’s agent he will be in the position to tell him tonight whether he intends to offer him a contract, with a right-sided player a high priority in the rebuilding plans of the ex-Hearts head coach. The 28-year-old still has one year left on his current deal at Parkhead, but Celtic have made it clear they will let him leave for nothing, as he attempts to get regular first team football elsewhere. Sylla was signed from St Johnstone by Martin O’Neill back in August 2001 for £750,000 on the same day as John Hartson and Steve Guppy arrived at Parkhead. However, he has failed to hold down a place, making only 37 starts, nine of them this season, though he come off the bench a few times. Levein has already signed fellow-Old Firm player Stephen Hughes, from Rangers, and Hearts’ Alan Maybury, Mark De Vries and Patrick Kisnorbo.
Chimp Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 That report says he's a right-sided player... so what is his best position, on the left or on the right?
Ric Flair Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 I think this lad is a replacement for Kenton if we get him. He has alot of pace and can play either centre back, full back or wing back. Celtic fans seem to rate him, but say he's not quite good enough to hold down a regular spot. He impressed me against Liverpool a few years ago and against Basle where he gave them the run around. I like pace.
Louise Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 Celtic Man Training With FoxesCraig Levein has today confirmed that Celtic utility man Momo Sylla is currently training with the Foxes squad. But the City boss was keen to stress that no formal offer had yet been made to the player, who has one-year to run on his contract at Parkhead. The 28-year-old Ivory Coast-born player joined Celtic for £650,000 from St Johnstone in August 2001, and has played as a striker, midfielder and defender under Martin O'Neill. Levein said: "Next season our squad is not going to be as big as it is at the moment so the more the players can adapt the better. I have seen him play in a number of positions so he is the sort of player who would be a valuable asset to us. "I would like to thank Martin O'Neill for letting us bring him down to have a look at him, and for him to see us, and we will just have to see what happens later on." Sylla has made nine appearances for the Bhoys this season - including Champions League ties against Barcelona and Milan. Meanwhile, Bradford City are reporting that Australian goalkeeper Paul Henderson is also training with Leicester City. The 29-year-old has not featured for the Bantams since turning down the offer of a new contract in April. http://www.lcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/News/...~661977,00.html
Hazza Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 He's done okay whenever i've seen him, mainly at right wing back but i think he can play anywhere on the right side. Is he available for free then, as Knighton Matt says? Just saw that Scotsman quote and it suggested a £750,000 fee, i wouldn't pay that much to be honest so hopefully MON can do us a favour and drop the price

"The 28-year-old still has one year left on his current deal at Parkhead, but Celtic have made it clear they will let him leave for nothing, as he attempts to get regular first team football elsewhere." the 750k figure banded about was the fee celtic paid st johnstone for him when they bought him hence they were calling him the 750k player.
SilverFox Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 Would be a pretty good signing. Hes played champions league football and isn't too old 28ish. I don't think the championship would be too difficult for him. Give the lad a go if hes free!

Link Sylla swoop? by BILL ANDERSON Celtic midfielder Momo Sylla is training with Leicester City with the prospect of a summer move from Parkhead. The 28-year-old Ghanaian international still has another year of his contract to run but the Bhoys are understood to be negotiating an early termination of his terms so he can find another club. The pacey utility man was one of the first signings for Martin O'Neill when he left City to take over at Parkhead, and was bought for £650,000 from St Johnstone in the same initial intake as John Hartson and Steve Guppy in August 2001. Although he has two Scottish Premier League championship medals to his name, Sylla has not been in the side much this season. He has had only nine starts, though he has Champions League experience from games against Milan and Barcelona in that tally. fosseman Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 I don't like the sound of him. Utility players are usually not very good at anything.

davieG Posted 6 May 2005 Posted 6 May 2005 This guy's less than impressed Link Just before the hour mark, Martin O’Neill made two substitutions. Chris Sutton looks to have picked up a shoulder injury, and was replaced by Momo Sylla. I have totally given up faith in this excuse for a football player. Guys like Bobby Murdoch and Jimmy McGrory must be turning in their graves when they see the likes of Sylla pull on a Celtic jersey. He has no footballing ability whatsoever and I simply cannot see what Martin O’Neill sees in him. Why wasn’t Craig Beattie put on before him? Even if he is returning from injury, I would have taken a half fit Beattie before a fully fit Sylla. mind you even Lennon sounded crap.
