Jon the Hat Posted 6 June 2011 Posted 6 June 2011 My dad has been spending recently on some kit from Ikon audio, who are on Aylestone road somewhere. Valve stuff. Sounds sweet and finally making use of his Tannoy Monitor golds which he has had since about 1963. Not cheap though!
Smudge Posted 6 June 2011 Posted 6 June 2011 it's totally dead - i think it might be the power pack, as it is very loose in the socket. You have a p3, right, just to make life a little easier - the on /off switch, is the on position raised at the front or the back? If you are still having problems tomorrow you can pm me your phone number and I'll get my turntable expert to call you if you wish.

I just wish they new pressings were cheaper.
hairy Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 They are expensive and its not as if its remastered for a vinyl release exclusively either, same production as the CD generally. But its still worth it

But its still worth it Definately, I have a decent cd collection but the sound is different, always sound a little tinny for me but theres stuff I cant get on vinyl (mainly boxsets). I bought myself one of these last december, sounds great, although I now have 2 jukeboxes and 3 turntables. I have always wanted to buy an old Dual turntable or similar vintage, but never have.

Clearaudio make some amazing pieces, we sold a couple of these back in the day when folks had .com money.
The Doctor Posted 7 June 2011 Posted 7 June 2011 having leafed through a collection of old vinyl's gathering dust in the loft, i fancy putting them on my mp3 player - where would be the best place to get a turntable that can connect to a computer to rip the record to the computer?

With no preamp the quality of the recording is terrible.
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 I still play a fair bit of vinyl. Just something special about it to me.
Smudge Posted 9 June 2011 Posted 9 June 2011 I still play a fair bit of vinyl. Just something special about it to me. Probably because the needle keeps slipping off the CD.
Lillehamring Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 so, i had to send it back - gutted, went out and binged on vinyl too probably gonna take a week or so before it's back in place.

Zingari Posted 10 June 2011 Posted 10 June 2011 record players bring back some old memories i used to ask the gf round if i needed someone to blow the fluff off my needle
Lillehamring Posted 10 September 2011 Posted 10 September 2011 i have a lot of vinyl, but i do not buy new stuff on vinyl (unless it's pure analog recordings), so you should be very wary about buying new stuff, it will sound good, but the thing is, stuff that is recorded for a digital medium (ie CD) will always sound better on digital playback (due to differences in Signal to noise ratio), and vice versa. no doubt people will suggest this doesn't matter, but i think it's important to at least be aware of (analog vs digital) so, i took the plunge and bought a new release on vinyl, Sondre Lerche, it was only a couple of quid more than the CD - and i have to say i was blown away, it sounded absolutely sensational. furthermore it came with a free CD version of the album, yet to compare the two versions, but i don't think my 25 year old kenwood CD player is a level playing field for comparison. but just great to be back in the vinyl world, my CD's are already gathering dust.
