Robbie Up For New Challenge

From OS:

The Foxes have a Premier League look about them according to new arrival Robbie Neilson and he is determined to try to get them back there.

Signed from Scottish Premier League side Hearts, Neilson is quickly settling into life at City and said "This is definitely a big enough club. It is going to be a difficult season, a lot of tough games and big teams but hopefully we have the squad to do something.

"When Leicester were in the Premiership they had a lot of Press in Scotland but when they went down to the Championship and then League One they went off the radar a bit in the Scottish media.

"There have been a lot of Scottish players at Leicester over the years and a lot of Scots still keep an eye on them.

It is a club with a great history and hopefully I can help bring them up again.

"I came down knowing the club could make the step up. It wasn't so long ago they were in the top flight and everything here is Premier League standard so it is just a case of getting back up there."

Two days into pre-season training, Neilson already feels very much at home, impressed with the surroundings and feeling very positive after very favourable first impressions.

He said "I have enjoyed it, and it has been great to get started and meet the players.

"The training ground is fantastic and the stadium is much bigger than Tynecastle so it is just a matter of getting settled in."

A star at the Edinburgh club for many years, was it a wrench to leave a place where he had enjoyed so many good times?

He said "It wasn't in the end. I think it was the right thing. I played a lot of games in the first team for the last decade and felt I needed a change at the right age to go.

"I left on good terms, we had qualified for the Europa League and the team played well towards the end of the season "

Neilson, renowned among other qualities, for his long-throw expertise, is not concerned about the different surroundings of English football from the Scottish game and said "It is all football. Now, it is about getting to know the players and fitting into the manager's style of play and I am sure in the next few weeks I am sure he will get his ideas across."

Couldn't see it posted anywhere... maybe share your thoughts on Neilson along with thoughts on this article here :)...

Summer signing Robbie Neilson has set his sights on helping Leicester regain their place in the Premier League.

The former Hearts captain moved to the Walkers Stadium after 13 years at Tynecastle as he went in search of a new challenge.

Nigel Pearson's side are back in the Championship having romped to the League One title last term in their first-ever season in the third-tier of English football.

And experienced midfielder Neilson believes they have the talent and infrastructure to mount a push for a second successive promotion, having slipped out of the top-flight in 2004.

"This is definitely a big enough club. It is going to be a difficult season, a lot of tough games and big teams, but hopefully we have the squad to do something," he told the Daily Record.

Great history

"When Leicester were in the Premiership they had a lot of press in Scotland but when they went down to the Championship and then League One they went off the radar a bit in the Scottish media.

"I came down knowing the club could make the step up. It wasn't so long ago they were in the top flight and everything here is Premier League standard so it's just a case of getting back up there.

"I think I made the right decision leaving Hearts. I played a lot of first-team games over the last decade and felt I needed a change.

"I left on good terms, we had qualified for the Europa League and the team played well towards the end of last season."

Same old Bollocks isn't t, it's like they are reading from a book

Yeah but how many different ways are there to say I'm looking forward to the challenge, this is a big club that belongs in the premier league (appeasing some sections of the support) and competition for places is good etc.

I'm sure we'd all like to read a verse in iambic pentameter written by Robbie, detailing the finer points of why he moved to Leicester, but it ain't gonna happen :D

I can't wait to see Robbie play for Leicester. Was absolutely buzzin when I heard we signed him. :D

:( I wouldn't get too excited.

He's blatantly going to be a very average-poor right back. Sorry to piss on the parade.

Correct. I'm a Wednesday fan but as my username suggets I have connections to Scotland. I am friendly with a lot of Hearts fans and the consensus is that Robbie is a very ordinary player. Reasonably solid defensively, good long throw, but his distribution is poor. They seem to be happy that he is off wage the bill. Don't put your expectation levels too high.

As long as he is solid defensively that's all I care about tbh. We have enough quality on the right of midfield to concentrate on the attacking side. And if he has a good long throw that's a bonus (I hadn't heard of this) cos it's like having twice the amount of corners in a game

From what I've heard he sounded solid enough on Saturday.

Taggs seemed to think he put in a good performance from his report on saturday
