Who else is competing this year?

Ajax, Atletico Madrid and Benfica, all of whom have a rather more impressive European pedigree than Sunderland.

But Sunderland did beat Atletico today.. :o

Starting Wednesday is the Barclays Asia Trophy... AKA the dump a load of bottom half English teams in china to promote both barclays and the premier league.... trophy :P.

2009 China:

Teams Competing: Hull City, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Chinese Super League team Beijing Guoan.

Didn't know it had started already. Didn't see anything on sky bar the wembly cup. Usually on telly each year.

I think Sunderland will do well under Bruce Eric Black. Ive always rated him and seems to have an eye for a player.

Except this year Uncle Rupert chose to cover the Wembley tournament. Probably a lot cheaper for him...(and I think Setanta may have had the rights anyway..)

They've underachieved in the last two seasons (and, some would say, for the last 50+...), but with some shrewd signings, they might threaten the lower reaches of the top 10 this time.

Went Wembley on Friday.

Didn't go to Celtic vs Al-Ahly. Chose alcohol instead :P.

Tottenham vs Barca was an average match. Expected to see the superstars but saw a bunch of youngsters from Barca instead. More of a day/night out lol.

How much were Wembley charging for this (non-) event?

The attendance was reported as over 57000, but from the TV footage, it looked a lot lower than that..

For one Day tickets, adults ranged from £30 to £60. Concessions from £20 to £50

Two Day - (Adults) £50, £64, £80, £100; (Concessions) £35, £50, £65, £85

Attendance must have lowerd for Spurs vs Barca. Guy on tannoy did say it was 57000 but as you say, it didn't look like it, and I was there! Half the stadium was empty, with only a few people in seats dotted around. One side was packed though, mainly with Spurs fans, and could see a large group of Barca fans near the bottom.

They should just make it knockout then. Can't really see why 5 days is a chore :dunno:

I know its only pre season but why hold a cup if its not run like one.

Agreed but I suppose the ideology is stop boring 0-0 with penalties.

Man United are in the Audi Cup at Allianz Arena. Two semi's during the week with a finals weekend. Simples.

Went to the Wembley Cup on the Friday. Actually really enjoyed it. Great view, friendly atmosphere, good football from Barca. As a bit of a Barca supporter, it was great to see the next generation. Was surprised Celtic didn't sell more tickets but their fans were still in good voice.

Think the Emirates Cup will be better, heading down to that this Sunday. Also going up to Liverpool to see them play Atletico the Saturday after. Have never been that bothered with non-Leicester friendlies before but a great chance to see PSG, Barca and Atletico with a minimum of fuss.

Really tempted by the Barca v Man City friendly at the nou camp but think it's just gonna be far too much to go over there for just a couple of days.

Tottenham vs West Ham on wednesday 11am. Should be a good one, a derby game in the middle of china!

There'll be plenty more where that came from if Scudamore persists with his 39th game proposal.

AFC Wimbledon beat FC United 2-0 on Saturday. Need to try and get to see both of these teams at some point this season.

Cristiano Ronaldo... scores first madrid goal against LDQ in peace cup from a penalty that he won, after what I can only describe as a beautiful run.
