flanimal Posted 25 July 2009 Posted 25 July 2009 Fox, completely agree with you. Before we signed N'Guessan I was chatting on about how he'd be a great striker - but it's not as easy. Striker is probably the most instinctive position on the field, it's not something many players can be taught. If he can become as good a finisher as Fryatt, or even Dickov - we have a great striker. Already, I'd play him upfront, he causes problems - chances are bound to be created.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 25 July 2009 Posted 25 July 2009 Thierry Henry started as a left winger, Paul Dickov started out as a right winger...No reason why N'guessan can't be converted if he has the ability. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying he's a Henry, just using those as examples. I agree with your points. I think he could do well up front he is quick and also fairly big too. Didn't Heskey play out wide sometimes for us too?
CosbehFox Posted 25 July 2009 Posted 25 July 2009 Watching him today. He's not that quick and he's not that strong. He works harder though, decent turn on a sixpence finish today too.
lildave3 Posted 25 July 2009 Posted 25 July 2009 Watching him today. He's not that quick and he's not that strong. He works harder though, decent turn on a sixpence finish today too. Odd, I keep hearing pace is his main asset
Fez of Mahrez Posted 25 July 2009 Posted 25 July 2009 He's one of the quickest Leicester players I've ever seen.
CosbehFox Posted 25 July 2009 Posted 25 July 2009 Odd, I keep hearing pace is his main asset Well he didn't out pace Shrewsbury's defence in any balls down the channels today. Watched him once at Lincoln and he was hardly lighting then either.
flanimal Posted 25 July 2009 Posted 25 July 2009 Dude, N'Guessan is super-quick. He could out run any player in the league! Fastest player we had at Leicester for years!
ACF Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 Dude, N'Guessan is super-quick. He could out run any player in the league! Fastest player we had at Leicester for years! Only sensible thing you;ve said in this thread.
GodsGift Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 Hi all, a Lincoln fan here. First of all, N'Guessan is indeed extremely quick! I'm not quite sure how Cardiff_Fox came to the conclusion that he isn't "that quick or that strong", but in the two or three years he spent at Sincil Bank they were considered his biggest assets to his game. Secondly, on the subject of being converted to a striker, I'm not entirely sure. He played as a winger for us (on both sides) for the majority of the time, but he did play a couple of games up front. Due to his blistering pace, he'll always prove to be a threat and surely that fits a striker? His finishing isn't the best, expect to see 3 or 4 shots fly over the stand, hit the corner flag etc before one goes flying into the top corner. I would imagine he would be best suited to the wing for you, as that is what he is used to. He thrives having the ball at his feet and running at the full-back, time and time again. It was nice to see him score yesterday, along with our very own Jack Hobbs as well.
flanimal Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 To the Lincoln fan, is N'Guessan a good header of the ball? And also, what do you think his chances are of being 'taught' the art of being a striker?
GodsGift Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 To the Lincoln fan, is N'Guessan a good header of the ball? And also, what do you think his chances are of being 'taught' the art of being a striker? To be brutally honest; no, his heading is terrible. For his height, you would expect him to be much better. Several times from corners he would win the header, only to see the ball fly off his head in any direction, but never towards the goal! To answer your second question, I'm not entirely sure. He's still young so of course there is plenty of potential to imrpove as a player. You're a Championship club with quality facilities I'd imagine, and good coaches (better than ours anyway!). So I'm sure with competent coaching and training there is no reason as to why he shouldn't be taught the 'art of being a striker', as you put it. Yet saying that, as I said previously DNG thrives on the wing, running at the full-back.
AjcW Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 Odd, I keep hearing pace is his main asset Dont worry he really is quick, this man mustn't of watched him. And his finish yesterday was very good imo, got the ball out of his feet and fired it into the net. Very instinctive.
flanimal Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 I'd say N'Guessan is a long term project playing him as striker, to put him in there straight away is a stop gap at best. Maybe he could play behind the strikers, I don't know. I think he's a good signing though.

At times last season Dany looked far too good for League 2, but was also fairly inconsistent for the remainder of the campaign. He clearly has the quality, it's more of a case of nurturing his talents. I wouldn't expect an immediate impact, but he certainly should be a competent Championship winger/potential striker. We'll see.

Personally felt he was beaten to the ball and knocked off it a few times yesterday including the very incident where I think he sustained a knock and fell over the ball. We will see...maybe it's fitness or maybe I am making too much of a point of two incidents in 45 minutes of action

Jackirius Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 I know Fryatt is currently injured, but it seems NP wants to mould Dany into a more straight forward striking role.I'm just wondering, could he be the extra striker we've been crying out for? He's strong, quick, and can use both feet equally. Apparently his finish isn't bad either. I could see this working, personally. Quick Answer = No
Jackirius Posted 26 July 2009 Posted 26 July 2009 Saw him play a game for Lincoln and he was shocking, had a few clear chances and just blasted them over, didnt seem to be anything special at all. Dont think he would fit into the team too well either.

One Half Wonder Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 Smacks of desperation, trying to fit players into slightly different roles from their norm shouldn't be happening early in the season never mind before the season has even started. Major oversight from Pearson on the striker front. I agree - if he's a winger, let him play best on the wing. Any decent team needs 4 good strikers that you'd be comfortable playing - as far as i can see we have just two (Fryatt & Howard) and one of those is injured currently. Dickov won't (or shouldn't) play again. Chambers, Kee and Sappleton are too inexperienced. We could do with a fit, enthusiastic DJ Campbell but i don't think he'll be that player again with us so we need 2 strikers still. A free Leroy Lita would be a good option for one as we need pace up front in this division. Not sure about the other?! Just hope we've not forgotten about it. Forest seem to have signed a few strikers, all a bit naff though. I hear Benjani is now about 7th choice striker at Man City :-)
Joe. Posted 27 July 2009 Posted 27 July 2009 I prefer The Eiffel Power, as he was affectionately known by some at Lincoln.
