Webbo Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 With the cups not being a priority and the fact we're only playing Macclesfield I believe NP will want to change the team a bit. Give some players some game time and not risk others. I think I'd play; Weale. O'Neil, Morrison, Tunchev (if fit) PowellN'Guessan, King, Wellens, AdamsFryatt, Waghorn. Pointless speculation I know, but it gives us something to think about.
Webbo Posted 9 August 2009 Author Posted 9 August 2009 No Howard? He doesn't need the game time. Save him for the league.

marbelladave Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Weale - needs the games to work out what our back 4 are up to. O'Neil - promising player, give him a game. Tunchev - if he feels up to it. Cover on the bench if needed. Hobbs - re-acquaint him with the Tunch. Mattock - just to piss him off! Oakley - the more games with Wellens the better. Adams - a free role, see what he can do. Wellens - see Oakley. N'Guessan - deserves it after saturday. Howard - to lead the line and take penalties. Waghorn - free role attacking, cover the fullback in defence.
smudge_lcfc Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 No Howard? saving that big slice for the tipswitch. prob the only person who can look roy keane in the eye without sweating!! is McCauly still playing for the tractor boys??

Seeing as he goes back in January, at which point it'll be at the semi final stage and it's unlikely that a) Sunderland will still be in the competition and b) they'll use him if they are.

Joe. Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 I'd like to see Pearson try out a few others on Wednesday night; I think that'll be the case anyway. Weale Morrison --- Tunchev --- Hobbs --- Berner N'Guessan --- King --- Oakley --- Adams Fryatt --- Waghorn ----------------------------------- It's a good opportunity to give Tunchev a bit more match time, but aside from that I think we should keep the defence together. I'd like to see Adams given another opportunity on the left wing after looking good on Saturday, likewise with N'Guessan. I also think that appearances for King may be a little restricted this season, so it might keep him sweet to play him too. Fryatt needs all the match fitness he can get at the moment.

Bryn Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 Weale Morrison Hobbs Brown Berner/New left backN'Guessan Oakley King GradelHoward Fryatt I expect most of the first team to be fit enough to deal with three games a week at this stage and I think it's important to build momentum. Fryatt needs the minutes. Just Wellens and Dyer rested, and Waghorn probably given the nod on Saturday. Perhaps a run out for Tunchev is the only other change I'd consider.
milan_foxes Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 I dont think Howard will start and defo not fryatt.

I would go with that, maybe bring Gradel at half time for Oakley with Adams coming inside the centre.
CosbehFox Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 is McCauly still playing for the tractor boys?? Hope Howard and Waghorn eat them alive. That's if he plays after today's performance. EDIT: I am pretty sure Neilson can play. His suspension applied to the first two league games.
Vlad The Impaler Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 I wouldn't change it up too much as it was evident in parts against Swansea that the team still don't fully understand each other, and if i were NP I would use this fixture to my advantage. Maybe drop Howard though and King, leaving way for Fryatt/Dickov/Chambers and Adams/Gradel as we have will have games without Howard and the sooner we try and attempt to sort this out the better. Don't get me wrong though, I love Howard

bigneville Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 One must for me, is that Fryatt gets as much pitch time as possible. Needs the fitness.
milan_foxes Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 One must for me, is that Fryatt gets as much pitch time as possible.Needs the fitness. So you would rather him play against macclesfield which were big favourites to win or a very tough game against ipswich?
Vlad The Impaler Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 So you would rather him play against macclesfield which were big favourites to win or a very tough game against ipswich? If you were manager, I'd be worried
bigneville Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 He needs to play games to get fit. If you dont play him against Macclesfield, where is he going to get the match sharpness for the league games from? He needs to play at least 60 minutes against Macclesfield, so he cant start getting to full fitness. If you dont play him Wednesday, he is going to be just as unfit against Ipswich next Saturday.

milan_foxes Posted 9 August 2009 Posted 9 August 2009 But what if he gets injured? I just dont see why we should take that risk?
