Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 August 2009 Posted 17 August 2009 I can't be certain but I don't think they've published my Ipswich article (can't check the actual paper being stuck down here in Northampton but it's not on the website) so I'll stick it up here instead. I didn't realise they were getting stuff off other fans as well so apologies if anyone was expecting it to be published! I did go over the word limit a bit and laid into Ipswich a bit for their ticket prices, I guess they want to get as many fans contributing as possible. Anyway, here you go: --- It would be interesting to find out exactly how the thirty one pounds most City fans forked out for this fixture will be spent by Ipswich Town. I’ve got a few suggestions. They might like to consider adapting the away section slightly to offer a bit more legroom. Alternatively, they could put it towards some traffic management so that it doesn’t take over an hour to get out of Ipswich after a game. Perhaps their team could even attempt something approaching decent football to justify the Premiership prices. Not that City fans were complaining about that and it took until halfway through the first half for the home support to respond to a vocal Blue Army. An accident on the eastbound A14 caused huge delays to City fans travelling to the game and it was one-way traffic at Portman Road in the early stages too. Richie Wellens and Matt Oakley controlled the midfield with Ipswich‘s spare man in midfield Colin Healy sitting too deep to interject, while Bruno Berner and Jack Hobbs in particular provided a solid base at the back. Leicester were dominating possession and Wayne Brown headed Lloyd Dyer’s cross over the bar wastefully. The only slight early worry was the pace of Ipswich left winger Lee Martin who left City debutant Robbie Neilson trailing on more than one occasion., while Chris Weale saved well from Jon Walters. At the other end, an unlikely barnstorming run from Howard was ended by Gareth McAuley‘s cynical foul, bringing the former City man a deserved yellow card. The two big men fought a personal battle all afternoon and the City support enjoyed their first chance of the new season to belt out a fierce rendition of “Leicester reject”. There was just time for the away support to rise mistakenly as Dyer’s 25-yard free kick flew marginally wide before referee Phil Crossley blew for half-time with City clapped off by an appreciative following. At half-time Ipswich ditched Healy and Jon Stead and switched to 4-4-2, bringing on new signing Tamas Priskin and 16-year-old Connor Wickham up front. The home side started to threaten with Wayne Brown having to work hard to marshal a striker half his age. After starting the second half more slowly, City burst into life again just before the hour. First, Dany N’Guessan cut inside and hit a rising shot off target before Fryatt miscued wide with his left foot following Howard’s flick-on. The game became scrappy in the last twenty minutes though as referee Crossley started flipping an imaginary coin to decide the award of free kicks and the Ipswich fans entertained themselves by making a villain of City number one Weale. The Blue Army responded with a slightly harsh slow hand-clap to Ipswich’s miniature midfielder Jaime Peters after he was slow to recover from a crunching tackle by Steve Howard. As time ran down, Weale and substitute Martyn Waghorn both picked up silly bookings for time-wasting when it was clear City should not have been settling for a point. However, that’s what we eventually travelled west with and the City fans were content with both the effort showed and the continuing unbeaten start.
davieG Posted 17 August 2009 Author Posted 17 August 2009 I wondered what had happened, bet they didn't like the 'stirring' bits No doubt Mr Perch will be on to explain all.

Is it definitely not in the paper at all, do you know? He's on holiday for another couple of weeks yet but it looks like they just want to distribute the publication between different fans, which is obviously fair enough. Just didn't want people to expect it to be in there.

I'm off out in a minute so will get the Merc, will be back in couple of hours so that's the earliest I can check.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 August 2009 Posted 17 August 2009 Turns out it has been published and will be on the website soon, I'm just an impatient git.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 That really is a few words... Or is the full thing not put online? The full article was about 500 words or so I'd guess, which should be in the paper today hopefully. I've noticed they use snippets of columns sometimes, particularly when Gary Silke does one. I suppose they have to get people buying the paper instead of chucking everything online. It wasn't the best last night, felt ill and didn't take any notes or anything about the game cos I was too busy standing and singing! Couldn't get a network connection last night so had to dictate the bloody thing. Already had a sore throat which I strained somewhat last night singing Outhere Brothers songs to Sunderland players. The life of a Leicester fan.
StanSP Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Unfortunately, one was an absolutely spectacular 30-yard thunderbolt from United left-winger Keith Tracey which gave Chris Weale no chance.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Had to dictate it over the phone. Not a lot I can do about that.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Ah no problem mate . Not actually that fussed anyway You going to put the full report up? Will try and put it on tonight after work.
Katy Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 Will try and put it on tonight after work. All things considered after the day we had yesterday, this should win the Samuel Johnson Prize!
CosbehFox Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 I understand I was sat in the McD's near this journalistic talent yesterday evening.
Kilworthfox Posted 19 August 2009 Posted 19 August 2009 I understand I was sat in the McD's near this journalistic talent yesterday evening. Do we have this journalistic masterpiece yet Fezzlar?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 24 August 2009 Posted 24 August 2009 http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/news/David-Be...il/article.html After two strong first-half showings in Suffolk and South Yorkshire in the preceding week, Leicester City should have been full of confidence kicking-off against a Barnsley side in poor early-season form. But the first 45 minutes were characterised by hospital passes and hesitation in possession. There were still two glorious chances at 15-minute intervals, Lloyd Dyer creating an opening for himself and shooting wide before Richie Wellens picked out Matty Fryatt only for the striker to shoot weakly straight at Barnsley keeper Luke Steele. The returning Iain Hume got a warm reception from most. Last season there was booing from some fans towards our own players in response to goalless first halves. On Saturday, thankfully, there was none. The way that City started the second half suggested that Big Nige had decided to have a word. There was suddenly an urgency about the home side's play, to which the Blue Army responded. Fryatt began to look lively, twisting the Barnsley back line inside out and linking well with enthusiastic debutant Paul Gallagher. With man-of-the-match Matt Oakley leading the charge from midfield, City's bright spell brought an inevitable goal. Fryatt's emphatic finish at the near post, as sharp as the wasp sting suffered by an unfortunate female fan outside the ground before kick-off, brought a roar of relief from the sun-bathed City support. Then, of course, we had the much-vaunted new "goal celebration music." My dad started taking me to Filbert Street as a five-year-old in the days of David Pleat. I do not recall any goal celebration music in those days. Admittedly, that might have been because there were no goals to celebrate. Either way, to a lot of us who find it difficult to make our voices heard amid the clamour for a family-based "match-day experience" these days, goal celebration music is embarrassing. We do not want or need to be orchestrated and I think it is sad that the club must feel they would lose fans if they ditched this unnecessary gloss. On the pitch, many times we have seen City fail to deliver in attempting to build on good away performances when returning to LE2. This was not straightforward by any means with the energetic Jamal Campbell-Ryce attempting to spoil the day towards the end. The late retreat towards our penalty area looked ominous and brought back bad memories of our last Championship season. This time there was to be no final twist. Job done and who knows what we can achieve in the North East? Toon can't come soon enough for a buoyant Blue Army.
davieG Posted 24 August 2009 Author Posted 24 August 2009 Good stuff Fez, nice to see the new editor chappie giving you some free reign.
