Preston Post Match Thread

Disappointed, though not surprised by the result.

But if we are to challenge for a top-six place, then Preston are the type of team we have to compete against and beat.

I hope this defeat can be avenged when we play at Deepdale in the league.

In the meantime, we have to make sure we can bounce back in the next game, even if it is away to Newcastle.

Pleased to see we were fast out of the block, after the first went in I thought we could put a few past them. The goal was well taken and you'd say it was coming. Their first was somewhat out of the blue but not totally against the run of play. A lucky goal from what i could see, bobble/deflecting lifting it over Weale. After that we really didn't look like scoring at all and I was waiting for their second to go in.

It looked like we had no target men up front. On the rare occasions we got down the flanks, their was no one waiting in the middle for it.

I was worried how exposed we looked when they were on the break and was surprised we didn't concede one in this manner.

We couldn't seem to get it out of midfield, and some poor passing didn't help. Fryatt seemed to sit back into midfield more, with no help from playmaker to play him in behind their line.

Overall, disappointed in the result. We looked like a team that hadn't gelled, and to some extend you could argue it wasn't an established team. Guess we can concentrate on the league now (until FA cup draw at least).

Just got back.

Not overly disappointed. Would have liked to go through but in the end the desire wasn't there from the lads. Had some good fun tonight which made the £5 entrance fee worthwhile.

Roll on Toon.

Have to say I am disappointed. A win would have put us full of confidence for Monday night's meeting with Newcastle, who will be much tougher opposition. A good Cup run would have been beneficial. However, we have been beaten, and will have to get on with the job.

If we can get a draw on Monday, then I will be more than happy. I can't see us winning, but I would love to be proved wrong.

You've got to remember this wasn't our first team. Wellens' absence was clearly felt, and I highly doubt Hobbs or Brown would have made the mistake Tunchev did for their first goal.

I think you may have been sat behind me tonight. From hearing a Joe, a Dave, a maybe a Potter and also the guy in the yellow shirt from the 'lads with fresh styles' thread :D .... was it you shouting "gooooon" whenever Neilson touched the ball? What was all that about? :P

Some took the defeat really badly, but I'm not overly fussed. A battling performance on Monday will put things right.

Cant understand why people are so unmoved by the loss.

Sure its only the Cup and we would have been knocked out sooner or later but a decent cup run would bode well for all the players especially the squad boys to get a look in.

More decent results we get,the more the players realise that perhaps we can compete in this league.

Having said that hopefully no more players were injured last night and thye can carry on with thier league campaign with just as much confidence before the defeat.

But maybe the defeat will remind them that if they take the foot off the gas, then they can't expect to win any games. I doubt it will have knocked the confidence out of the regulars, but let's hope King, Morrison and Tunchev don't get too down about it.

Any news on how Kermit played?

Will he be in the squad for the Toon?

Pearson said that he is a great finisher and once he gets used to the English game, he will be more likely to play. Or something along those lines.

Probably should have come on sooner, didn't really have time to do anything.

I can tell you that Dickov managed to give away about 5 freekicks, and kick the ball away within about 5 minutes. >_< Why this bloke is anywhere near the first team is a mystery to me.

Me and JME were the others, with Bert, Fez and others behind us..

Gutted to be out if I'm honest always love a good cup run but enjoyable evening nonetheless.

Tunchev, King, N'Guassan fell well short for me with only Adams, Weale and Powell turning in decent showings.

Maybe I'll say hello next time then

I hate losing any game.

Agree with that, I think Adams is well worth a starting place against Newcastle, thought he deserved one against Sheff Utd as well. The defence didn't fill me with much confidence tonight, normally that's the one thing I'm not worrying about. Central midfield seemed to go AWOL for most of the match. One of the worst games I've seen Oakley have. How many times did he give the ball away?

Said hello to you before you got on the coach mate, you looked well bemused haha :D

Took me by surprise that was all. I did twig who you were though.

Should have stayed at home... the pies were shit.

They were fooking disgusting. All cold and stale.

Still ate it though.

Still ate it though.

Well, most of it.
