Budweiser Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Gutierrez better score, I want him to break out the spiderman mask from down his socks. Heard he was injured
casablancas Posted 30 August 2009 Posted 30 August 2009 Got a good feeling about this one, thinking with some of the top toon lads out we have a fantastic chance. A half fit Amoeobi will be marshalled out of the game buy Brown and Hobbs. We just need to find our scoring boots and we'll seal what will be a very inspiring victory :D Off topic Dickov put in a better performance for Derby in 20mins then i've seen him do for city since he been back .
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 Really looking forward to watching this hope we put in a good perfomance and if we win we will be right up there.
colbo68 Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 We can't really take much from our recent form against Newcastle because we haven't played them in years, but our previous meeting against them at St James' ended in a 3-1 defeat back in 2004.Overall the form is quite bleak though in the last decade or so, 5 loses, 3 draws and 2 wins in our previous 10 meetings. They have started the season very well, many thought they would struggle without a permenent manager, the continued circus of who will buy the club and losing players. But so far they have surprised some and won their last 3 matches without conceding a goal. Losing Martins, Duff, Owen, Bassong, Beye, Edgar, Cacapa, Viduka, and only bringing in Danny Simpson on loan, clearly hasn't effected their Championship challenge so far. And they have still kept hold of some top class players, who are probably too good for the Championship. It looks as if they will probably be up in the top six somewhere come the end of the season, so it would be very nice for us to go there and pick up 3 points. We played poorly at Preston though but the regulars will be back for this one, and you'd expect Berner, Hobbs, Brown, Wellens to be back in the side. As much as i would love to see us keep up our unbeaten record in the Championship going into the winnable home games against Blackpool and P'boro i think this will probably be too much for us. Ameobi has started off extremely well, and i think we will lose 2-0 with a goal from him and Carroll. :locked: same thing as always really - we will be able to match them defensively, no doubt that Hobbs/Brown is currently as good as Coloccini/Taylor - the difference, I think, will be in attack because I dont think Matty cuts it at this grade. Therefore, it will be close, but like Ipswich away, Sheffield away and Barnsley at home I think we will continue to miss chances. I predict a 2-1 home win.
Fox92 Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 Having played four and lost none, both Newcastle and Leicester will be going all out for this game. As we need 2 goals to go top (with West Brom being on +4 goal difference and us being on +2) this game could be open which means lots of goals. However, it is a very difficult place to go and Newcastle have a very, very strong team. I personally think that their defence, midfield and attackers are strong and will cause lots of problems. Hopefully big Stevie Howard will be back to play the team he supports and he can cause problems to Steven Taylor/Fabricio Collocini who are both big defenders. Both full backs are also of a strong nature, Enrique/Ryan Taylor/Simpson. Newcastle's midfield seems strong and capable, the midfield has lots of goals in them but can also defend when needed. Both former Manchester United players Alan Smith and Nicky Butt are defensive-like midfielders and could hold off Wellens and Oakley but Kevin Nolan is also likely to start who is a goal scoring midfielder. Obviousley Geremi, Barton, Guthrie, Lua-Lua and Gutierrez also play in midfield for the Magpies. It seems to me that our midfield will have a tough 90 minutes but with the quality of Richie Wellens I am fairly confident. Of course, Andy Carrol is a big striker but still young although that isn't a real problem. Ameobi seems to have reached his level and seems to score for fun in this division so he is my one to watch really. Other strikers that include Xisco, Vuckic, and even Donaldson and Ranger I haven't seen much off. Weale Neilson -- Hobbs -- Brown -- Berner Gallagher -- Wellens -- Oakley -- N'Guessan Fryatt -- Howard Not many changes in the team from the league matches this season although Paul Gallagher starts on the right for me with N'Guessan on the left. This is because Gallagher's crosses were perfect against Barnsley but unfortunetly a big man didn't play so we wern't converting the sensational crosses that the former Blackburn man was putting in. Hobbs and Brown should have no trouble as, apart from set pieces and Andy Carrol, I cannot see Newcastle troubling in the air much. N'Guessan to start on the left as his pace may scare Danny Simpson who hasn't got that much expierience. Well, I think I'll predict, although I obviousley want us to win 2-1 to Newcastle United.

You've only really stated the obvious throughout that whole post. And if we win 2-0, we DON'T go top, because West Brom have scored more goals.
Fox92 Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 And if we win 2-0, we DON'T go top, because West Brom have scored more goals. EDIT: I get you now
Phlashman Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 Nah, Alphabetical comes last, It's points, goal difference, goals scored, results against each other and then alphabet.

Thats what Alan Hansen, Mark Lawrenson, Alan Shearer, Lee Dixon etc all do and they get paid hundreds of thousands a year to state the friggin obvious every week
Asha Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 Thats what Alan Hansen, Mark Lawrenson, Alan Shearer, Lee Dixon etc all do and they get paid hundreds of thousands a year to state the friggin obvious every week To be fair, I think Alan Hansen provides some good insight at times, especially regarding the defences. I'd agree with you on the other three though.

leicesterfox86 Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 1-0 Away win. Think this is the most realistic score line in terms of us winning. Can't see us winning a thriller 3-2 or anything. The more dull the game is, the better for us. Get those Geordies moaning early doors!
DanTheFox07 Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 Great opportunity to beat newcastle in my opinion, Been watchin skysports this morning and ameobi has a suspected stress fracture in his foot, so Doesn`t look like he will play! regardless of the quality newcaslte have, i believe we are the strongest test newcastle will get so far this season. Hopefully McGivern will get clearence from premier league in time to play. Also I agree with others who have mentioned gallagher dropping back into midfield, but guess this depends on howard being fit. Id like to see the new man kermorgant get at least 20 mins today also, or play howard and if there are slight doubts over him we can swap stirkers.
Joe. Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 Feeling a bit pessimistic about this actually. I think we've definitely got it in us to claim something from the match, but a 1-0 defeat is screaming at me.
morris1234 Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 Even now newcastle are still way too cocky for my liking. They have alwys thought they were something special and thought that when they had a 'geordie messiah' they would be world beaters, and even after the ultimate geordie messiah came in and took them down, they still cant seem to realise where they are. They definately have the ability to go up, no doubt about that, but their attitude still seems to tell me they think they will win every game in this league! If they dont go up this season, they are going to struggle as this division gets harder every year! my heart says 2-1 leicester win but my head says 1-0 newcastle win!

Edmund Posted 31 August 2009 Posted 31 August 2009 I see Waghorn was walking off the bus into ST James. I thought he was still injured?
maddog Posted 31 August 2009 Author Posted 31 August 2009 Maybe he's just watching the match Don't think theres been any news on how long he's injured for, perhaps they weren't sure and now he's recovered quickly.
