We can't really take much from our recent form against Newcastle because we haven't played them in years, but our previous meeting against them at St James' ended in a 3-1 defeat back in 2004.

Overall the form is quite bleak though in the last decade or so, 5 loses, 3 draws and 2 wins in our previous 10 meetings.

They have started the season very well, many thought they would struggle without a permenent manager, the continued circus of who will buy the club and losing players. But so far they have surprised some and won their last 3 matches without conceding a goal.

Losing Martins, Duff, Owen, Bassong, Beye, Edgar, Cacapa, Viduka, and only bringing in Danny Simpson on loan, clearly hasn't effected their Championship challenge so far. And they have still kept hold of some top class players, who are probably too good for the Championship.

It looks as if they will probably be up in the top six somewhere come the end of the season, so it would be very nice for us to go there and pick up 3 points.

We played poorly at Preston though but the regulars will be back for this one, and you'd expect Berner, Hobbs, Brown, Wellens to be back in the side.

As much as i would love to see us keep up our unbeaten record in the Championship going into the winnable home games against Blackpool and P'boro i think this will probably be too much for us.

Ameobi has started off extremely well, and i think we will lose 2-0 with a goal from him and Carroll.

have some confidence guys! We can do this. We're a team that's out there to prove a point this season, that we can challenge for the top 6. I think Newcastle will take games like this a little for granted and I believe we can geta result there. I think our team is equal to theirs, and our defence is in superb form this season so far. Hobbs and Brown are an awesome pairing! My bet is 1-0 to city with gallacher scoring his first for the club! :)

I like your optimism. But you'll probably get slated for being so optimistic on here :P.

maybe so! I believe we're in with a real shout this season, and so far the team has proved we can match anyone! Who'd of thought last season we could go away to sheff utd and pick up a point, and outplay them for big spells in the game? That first half performance really made me believe we canbeat anyone!

I'm normally optimistic with my predictions, but I've got a feeling that we might lose this one. Can't really put my finger on why, though.

THey have started well this season, results wise, but they were fortunate to escape from wba with a point, eased past readings kids, held on against sheff wed and only really outplayed colin w*****s mob. They are still very vulnerable at the back, the midfield is very competitive (and has a touch of class) but upfront hobbs & brown should be able to cope with ameobi and carroll. So a highly convincing 3-1 win for us. :D

1st league loss of the season me thinks.

I think you might be right. Not that it would be that much of a disaster though. As long as we compete and take positives from it, it wouldn't be the worst place to lose out first game.

I hope we can do another Ipswich and Sheffield United away thing and snatch a point (which I'd be very happy with).

Yes - I know it's Newcastle. So what?

Focus on the league now, get the job done, surprise a few along the way and stay in the Championship Top 10.

2-1 to the Toon, they're on good form and will be tough to beat at Sid James.

they were awful defensively tonight and have now lost ameobi so i think we have a realistic chance of taking all three points.

Gallagher and Oakley to score in a 2-1 win. Nolan for them.

It just seems like they have too many good players still. I know they've lost a lot of players, but it feels like a Premier League vs Championship bout, which makes me a bit pessimistic about our chances.

Still, we're on the telly: 1-5 written all over it.

I reckon we've got a chance

They've possibly lost their 2 main strikers, with Carroll limping off against Sheff w. at the weekend, and Ameobi limping off tonight in the league cup,

Also, their dangerous winger Gutierrez limped off tonight

So this is a good time to play them - so I'm going for 2-0 to City
