Noel quits oasis

Cba to read the thread but I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a publicity stunt.

They'll headline Reading/Leeds 2011. Watch this space.

Doubt it mate.

Noel will only just be getting round to releasing his solo album by then I reckon and I can only imagine how Liam's voice will sound after a year off, possibly worse than Glastonbury 04 after they took a couple of years out.

When Lily Allen announced they had pulled out of chelmsford, me and some mates said it was the end of the band. Glad i saw them now :)

You like Pearl Jam

and music is all about opinions and my opinion is Oasis are better then Pearl Jam.

As much as I love PJ I am not totally deluded into thinking they are the best band the worlds ever seen or most influencial.

Your right of course music is about opinion but its the OTT bias that is ridiculas. Oasis music was pretty one dimensional and it never really changed over the years and it was so planted in the 60's but when it hit in the early to mid 90's it still sounded great but I think people gre tired of it, no doubt noel can pen a great pop song and performance wise were a great spectacle but I felt it just went on too long I'm sure Noel will produce much better music than oasis have in the last decade.

Balanced view eh? A rarity thesedays. <_<

BTW from what I could see oasis have outsold Take that, checkout some of the biggest sellers of all time, within the top 25 of all time are:-

Nana Mouskouri Greece 1958–2008 Pop folk 300 million (fifth highest seller EVER)

Herbert von Karajan Austria 1938–1989 Classical 200 million

Julio Iglesias Spain 1968–present Latin 200 million

A. R. Rahman India 1992–present Film Score / World 200 million

Alla Pugacheva Russia 1965–present Pop 250 million

Wei Wei China 1986–present Pop 200 million

Adriano Celentano Italy 1957–present Pop 120 million

I have to agree with everything Hugo Sanchez has said, I personally think it's abit sad at people laughing at Oasis splitting up to be honest but each to their own and all that shizzle. They are the best band to come through in Britain since The Beatles for making music. Fact.

No. Opinion.

No question of the influence Oasis had on the nineties music scene but there are so many factors when deciding who's the best band to come out of this country that I don't think any one can ever truly lay claim to it.

We should just count ourselves lucky that this country has produced so many fantastic bands (Led Zep, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, The Clash, The Jam, The Stone Roses, The Smiths, Radiohead and countless others), and given their huge fanbase and chart success Oasis can probably include themselves in that list too.

I think The Beatles easily could, biggest band in the world ? Most band claim their influnce as The Beatles.

I would go as far as saying John Lennon is probally the greatest of all time.

Possibly, possibly not. All musical taste is opinion based, therefore so is the judgement on who can lay claim to the title of 'greatest band of all time'.

I'll admit that it is generally considered that The Beatles walk away with that coveted monicker, but I doubt that you'd find many people who would come to a general concensus about the 'second greatest band of all time' even if that was the case.

I'm not being funny (well, maybe I am a bit - I can't help it), Ash/Hugo, but instead of going on about how important and what a big influence Oasis/The Beatles are to OTHER PEOPLE, why not tell us about what they mean to you? I don't want to speak for everyone but I suspect that most of us would find that a lot more interesting. I'm sure you're a fan of these acts for reasons other than that they're popular

I say fairplay to them. This comes as no suprise at all. Its obvious they were planning on retiring so why not go out with a bang. They have been slipping hints to the media that there was trouble in the camp and it was inevitable that the split was going to come soon. Not only has it propelled them back into the spotlight it also means they will ship a few more units in the progress. I've said in the past in a few threads that its a media stunt and nothing else.

Then.

Give it a few years and when they are short of a few bob we will have the reunion comeback special. Mark my words.

You can't blame them really when the music industry is in the state it finds itself in where bands/labels/managers are trying to squeeze every penny out of Joe public as they have been suffering for a long time since downloads are rife.

Oasis were the first band who really got me into music, when i was younger alot of people were into garage music and Oasis weren't as popular as they had been. Still my dad had the Whats The Story album and i use to listen to that all the time. My cousins also were massive Oasis fans so they played a part into getting me into them.

I can also relate to the music, its the sort of music if i was a musican would make. . I think they just made great songs and were just normal lads.

When people say, they only had 2 great albums. It does do my head in because every album they have made for me as been great. I can listen to different albums different days what i like. Some days i more into def maybe but then another could be more in the mood for Standing on the shoulders.

so, what lies in the future for you musically, seeing as your three favourite bands no longer produce music; noel's solo work aside, what is going to fill the gap - surely you won't be happy with just fourth-rate oasis wannabe acts?

If you come to a band a bit later it's probably a bit easier to look at what they've done and appreciate the merits of it all, whereas if you're an old git like me that was the right age when Oasis started and got to enjoy the Britpop era in its prime (and it was bloody ace at the time, I thought), everything after was bound to be a bit disappointing.

It's a bit like me and The Smiths, with whom I was that bit too young to really appreciate them at the time. There are quite a few Smiths fans that don't think Morrissey has done anything worth bothering with as a solo artist, but as his solo career has coincided with my properly being into music I think it's mostly great

That is true, i was too young for the whole Britpop love in but i got into Oasis after Standing on the shoulders. So i had the luck of hearing Def Maybe and Be here now for the first time and not being as popular as they were.

The Smiths i would put in the top 5 best british bands of all time, i've not really heard Morrissey solo work but same with Ian Brown. I love both of their bands but not really their solo work. I'm hoping Noel will change that.

dear god, then listen to vauxhall and i, smartish.... it's the only morrissy/smiths record i listen to with any regularity these days-

also, nice sig... 'village green...' (and 'Arthur') are, imho, two of the most underrated albums of the last 50 years, and still sound fresh today...

If you fancy dipping your toe into Morrissey's solo career, Vauxhall and I is great (it's probably my favourite record ever) but the immediately post Smiths stuff is a bit more accessible for the most part and features a lot of his more famous tracks. 'Viva Hate', his first solo album is very good, and the compilation 'Bona Drag' are well worth a listen

bona drag has my favourite morrissey song on it; 'disappointed'

this is the last song i will ever sing *cheering*

no, i've changed my mind again *jeering*

Liam seeks new Oasis guitarist

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Liam Gallagher is about to show Simon Cowell how to be a proper Mr Nasty as he starts X Factor-style auditions for a guitarist to replace brother Noel.

The moody star is personally inviting strummers he thinks will Definitely Maybe be up to playing in Oasis after Noel quit the band last month.

A source close to Liam said: "He reckons he can find someone better than Noel. He's trying out a lot of guitarists."

The Gallaghers' pal Kasabian frontman Sergio Pizzorno is sure Noel will return when Oasis "sort out their problems".

Won't work for me.

this isn't a dig at noel, but why look for a new guitarist - seeing as noel was actually the third best guitarist in the band anyway....

do you not think liam would be better off just releasing stuff as a solo artist?

I think the story is probably a load of bollocks, at least I hope it is.

Without Noel, it isn't Oasis. Simple.

The set would be interesting though without Noel, half of it would have to go.
