Queen are bigger then Oasis worldwide, in the uk probally not anymore. I can give facts and all that and so can you but its not gonna prove who is wrong or right. Queen are a great band, no denying that but their song i would say weren't as good as Oasis were.

it was more to do with the Statement that Oasis were musically the biggest band since The Beatles missing out Queen altogether, If the statement had been Oasis the biggest British band since Queen then I wouldn't have a problem but to discount a band that have what could very easily be one of if not the best known songs ever in Bohemian Rhapsody which I'm sure even you will agree is singly one of the biggest songs ever recorded I mean everyone knows Bohemian Rhapsody no matter what age or music you are into all over the world you probably can't say that about Live Forever or even Wonderwall

I am not really a fan of either band Oasis had 2massive albums with some incredible singles but take a look at some of the songs Queen recorded they are huge, Bohemian Rhapsody, We are the Champions,We will rock you are just incredible songs to have in your back catalogue and it can't be denied that Queen were one of the biggest bands ever to come out of this country.

People really think Queen and Oasis are in the same league? Queen are a kitsch 80's band with a couple of stompers whose status was elevated by Mercury's death. At worst, I think a lot of Oasis's stuff is stuck in a creative rut and a bit samey, - I think some of Queen's stuff is absolutely fucking dire. Radio Gaga? I mean really...

My only real problem with Oasis is my incredulity that people involved in something as fundamentally artistic and introspective as music could be such boorish cunts sometimes.

to be fair, they were also a 70's band who performed infront of 250,000 people (in one go). (apparently) performed in front of 200,000 in hyde park and filled stadiums for years, all this before freddie mercury died. ;)

however comparing queen with oasis is like comparing apples with pears; queen quite often, reinvented themselves and their sound.

How uncharacteristically narrow minded of you. :P

I'm not gonna say your wrong here because music is about having a opinion but Oasis are a complete different generation to The Kinks, The Who and The Small Faces ( all great bands and Noel loves all 3 covering their songs).

Oasis are the biggest band of our time, maybe not the best but the biggest to come along since The Beatles. Definitely Maybe, Whats The Story and Be Here Now was the peak of their career. No band since has came close to their success and maybe won't anytime soon. Oasis have a big loyal fan base and could sell any arena/stadium out in europe in a matter of seconds.

People will argue here by saying The Smiths, Stone Roses, The Jam, Blur, The Clash or maybe even The Libertines where better then Oasis but Oasis are a bigger band who have more followers through out the country. They came at a time when American rock was the mainstream and proved that British rock and roll will always be the best.

I'm not saying Oasis were the best musican because they clearly wasn't but what talent they did have they maximized to the best they could and made very good albums and songs what are still popular in this day and age.

Noel Gallagher love him or hate him, will always have his place in music for being a icon, legend and funny man.

i think that's the best thing you've posted on oasis... i think most of it is pretty reasonable and refreshingly open-minded,

except the libertines? seriously? :D

also, i think radiohead can probably claim some global sucess up there with oasis, and also U2, certainly in terms of popularity, and both are still going

i think a lot of people fail to take into account just how dreadful the 80s were, it was a turning point where A LOT of stuff went electric, before the technology was up to it, which made for some dreadfully plastic music.

and also taste went out the window...

the beatles are a great example of what the 80s was capable of, i'm pretty sure mccartney's 'cool' was destroyed as a result of making records during the 80s...

ditto elton john, even bowie to a degree.

it would be interesting to see how lennon would have dealt with this frighteningly uncool decade,

Exactly. Some of Neil Young's stuff in the '80s... Eugh.

Queen did some absolute dross, but they were all good individual musicians and immense live (not through experience obviously).

As Sam said, they've split after their prime and have given the fans an awful lot to enjoy.

The depth of their music is second to none. Having songs like The Masterplan, Listen Up and Acquiesce as B-sides shows how talented Noel is as a songwriter, regardless what some people may think.

It's hardly surprising really, and if I'm being brutally honest I don't even care a great deal. Despite being one of my all time favourite bands and having the pleasure of seeing them live twice, it don't think it would be unfair to say that their musical standards have declined in recent years. It was never going to be easy to emulate the successes of past glories, and if major rifts are going to have seriously detrimental effects of their future music then it has to be the right thing to do.

but they are, it's totally apparent and i understand why they're doing it, even if, as i say, they've kinda missed the boat...

several posters have said this same without putting as much thought into their posts, why do you feel the need to make a childish remark everytime i post on oasis - it's not like i'm the only one who is saying what i'm saying and i think my post in this thread was very balanced. if you aren't interested in discussing a subject where people have a different perspective why don't you just leave it to those of us who are...

i think oasis are a great case study in music 'business', as i think they are probably the most marketed and 'designed' band going - surely you can see that every thing they do and say is geared up for maximum commercial possibilities.

Totally apparent to you in your perfect little world where everything you think is fact.

Nobody has said anything about them trying to make the most of it other than you. How is making a statement on their website trying to make it "monumental" only you seem to know.

I suppose you'll suggest there wasn't a fight at all and that it's made up to make it something "big". I also suppose you'll say the acts who posted on twitter about seeing it happen are all in on it too. You should talk to El Empty, he's likes good conspiracy theories.

As for being the most marketed and designed band going. Well I think that just proves you post stuff to try and wind people up. Go off and write a case study though, there must be someone interested in it.

and, for the record, i haven't 'argued', i simply discussed the effects and impact of this news, important as it is - babylon is the only one who has tried to turn this into anything more than a sensible exchange of ideas and opinion

Oh do pipe down big shot. Honestly, you are so far up your own backside I don't think you know which way is up.

I have to agree with everything Hugo Sanchez has said, I personally think it's abit sad at people laughing at Oasis splitting up to be honest but each to their own and all that shizzle. They are the best band to come through in Britain since The Beatles for making music. Fact.

I can see Noel's reason's for leaving the band, I don't think anyone could put up with Liam for the amount of time Noel has especially being on tour with each other for the amount of time they have recently. Didnt know until I read earlier that Noel refuses to let Liam see his son because of something Liam said about Noel's daughter, which was a pretty horrible thing to say by Liam. One thing for sure is that Oasis will not be the same without Noel.

Oasis will be much missed in Britain and around the world, I for one hope they make a comeback in a few years time.

"the best band to come through in Britain since The Beatles" is possibly the funniest thing ive heard all year

another great exchange of ideas and opinions - brilliant work, right out of the ultra school of debate...

if your are simply going to try to disparage everything i post about music at least try to deal with the things i've said... for example, i didn't say they hadn't argued, i just said that they are trying to milk this split up, which it seems they are... like the labels are doing with michael jacksons death.. you only have one chance to cash in... you seem to be completely unable to seperate me making a comment about the music industry and some misconcevied idea that everything i post about oasis is bitter and hatefilled,

if you read my posts in this thread you'll see that i AM just talking about the music industry...no other poster in this thread is giving me a hard time, and many have agreed and supported my observations....

if the only thing you have to offer in this thread is having a go at me, then i suggest you walk away now.

In order to celebrate the split-up, which one can hope should be definite for once, I'd love to see Oasis fans giving it a go and beating the crap out of each other to demonstrate how much they really care about that music.

Smashing scenes, I'd imagine.

Using those criteria, Take That are a bigger band than the whole lot of them..

The Roses, the Smiths and the Clash were influential on many other musicians long after they split up. Will people be saying the same about the Gallaghers in 15-20 years' time?

Right, I heard that Oasis song (I think they sang it) and I want to know what it is called.

Any ideas please, the lyrics were something like 'Come In, Come Out Tonight'.

Not sure about the 'tonight' bit but I think it went 'come in, come out' and I cannot really search for it on limewire or youtube etc because I don't think that is the name of the song, so can anybody tell me the name of that song please?

Cheers,

Cba to read the thread but I wouldn't be surprised if it was just a publicity stunt.

They'll headline Reading/Leeds 2011. Watch this space.
