Edmund Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2009/...er-league-draws Interesting article from the Guardian. English Premier League : 4 draws in 66 games La Liga : 10 draws in 50 games Serie A : 18 draws in 60 games Champions League (Group Stage) : 8 draws in 32 games
sdb Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 read that the other day, tis good article and i'm lovin the lack of draws. guarantee there'll be 5 draws in the prem this weekend now though
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 That is an interesting fact. I really dont know why that is, probably because teams are going for the win more, or maybe there is a big gap in the quality of the teams like Hull compared to Sunderland etc. One thing is for sure, it seems to be very exciting.
Edmund Posted 1 October 2009 Author Posted 1 October 2009 There were 5 draws alone last sunday in Serie A. More than the premier league throughout the current season so far.
sdb Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 it's because strikers have been on it (bent, defoe, drogba, gabby a, rooney, torres etc) and defenders have not (carra, rio, everyone at hull etc)
Brainy Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Can anybody name the four that have been draws (not sure if it says in the article) I cant.
dandannieldanok Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Can anybody name the four that have been draws (not sure if it says in the article)I cant. Blackburn - West Ham Bolton - Stoke Can't remember the other two.
StanSP Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Basically, one team has always scored more than the other, except on four occasions.
Budweiser Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Basically, one team has always scored more than the other, except on four occasions. So profound
sdb Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Blackburn - West HamBolton - Stoke Can't remember the other two. brum - stoke
Darkzzz_ Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 There were 5 draws alone last sunday in Serie A. More than the premier league throughout the current season so far. There have been some thrilling draws in Serie A. It has been enjoyable so far this season too. The Premier League has had a goal glut so far this season, Spurs must have had a massive say in that?
AjcW Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Lets be honest the premier league has really stepped up a gear this year, when sunderland and wolves can provide an entertaining game you just know its going to be a good season.

If your looking at it from an entertainment view, a 2-2 draw is more enjoyable to watch than a 2-0 for example especially for the neutral football fan due to the shear fact of more goals.

Entertaining due to the fact that both teams were awful at defending.
lildave3 Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Entertaining due to the fact that both teams were awful at defending. After seeing Racing's efforts last week, I don't think you could say that Wolves and Sunderland were worse! The defending wasn't even that bad in that game. Aside from the corner which Turner score from.
Bert Posted 1 October 2009 Posted 1 October 2009 Personally I think it comes down to money and how much of an effect it has on our game. The amount of money you get for staying in the Premiership is astonishing, especially when you compare it to what you get if you get relegated. Sitting back and settling for a point isn't really going to keep you in the league, even more so with other teams going gung-ho. Teams are being more adventurous and going for wins, and this results in leaving massive gaps for the opposition to play, or whether it just be the style of football the team are playing to win the match.

I'm not and would never say they defend better in La Liga, they clearly don't like to defend, where as in recent years the Premier League has become more defensive in a way. Which isn't a bad thing. From where I was sitting the game was entertaining but as Bruce said, both teams switched off and made it a game for the neutral.

Not on the subject, but are you a big Darren Fletcher fan? If so, I'm in agreement. I have a secret love for him. Underrated as f uck
Bert Posted 2 October 2009 Posted 2 October 2009 Not on the subject, but are you a big Darren Fletcher fan?If so, I'm in agreement. I have a secret love for him. Underrated as f uck Yeah. I used to hate him, thought he was shit. One of my best mates is a United fan, (not a plastic, he's watched United in Rome, had season tickets) and every time he'd get back from Old Trafford, he'd rave about Fletcher, so I took it upon myself to watch him a bit more closely and he is awesome, because he can do pretty much anything and rarely fails to do a job for the team.

Good DM. Works hard and will never give up. Would hate to play against him. Shame he's a scot, would be nice to have him in our national side.

I felt exactly this way. He has proved so many wrong, I think he is a fantastic player, so often we look at players with skill and players such as Fletcher don't get mentioned. I have praised him to people and they say "nah, he is shit, only gets in because Fergie is Scottish"
