This is something that i'm sure will get some of you drooling...

apparently, there is a very close relationship between club and supporters unions at malmo, the result is that they got what they wanted - a terraced kop!

and the real beauty? well, they can take the barriers out and put in seats for eufa games and internationals...

and they go nuts when they sceore a moment later:

That metal surface looks unforgiving if you fell over on that!

Good idea though

I presume that's removed when it's converted for standing.

Looks like hard labourious work putting it in, are they in Europe that often?

Superb, imagine if they did that at the Walkers. We'd have a proper Kop then and everything.

no, in fact maybe even the other way round, the metal bits just double the number of concrete levels -

i've no doubt that it is hard work, but if they are prepared to do it, good on them - remember this is a club that LISTENED TO ITS FANS when building a new ground, we had to have a public outcry just to stop them calling it the walkers BOWL!!!!

sweden has 4 european places, and malmo are one of the current, er, big 3...

Swedbank Stadion is a football stadium in Malmö, Sweden, that is used for football matches and hosts the home matches of Malmö FF. The stadium has a league capacity of 24,000 people (18,000 of which are seated and 6,000 standing) or 21,000 seats in international matches; it replaced Malmö FF's former stadium Malmö Stadion. On July 12, 2007, Malmö FF announced that they had sold the naming rights for the arena to the Swedish bank Swedbank.[3] Other companies that have acquired naming rights to stands inside the stadium are construction company Peab, brewing company Carlsberg (which will market its beer brand Falcon), newspaper Sydsvenskan, and the energy corporation E.ON. [4] The stadium also hosted the finals of the 2009 UEFA Under-21 Championships, along with three group stage games. [5] After the Under-21 Championships, the current all-seater away section will be refitted to terraces. [6]

It does seem to be on the increase, sweden, austria, germany...I think I may of heard of holland doing it too.

Unfortunately I cant see it ever happening over here, as a poster above said its far to sensible to be introduced here.

I've not been keen on Standing terraces due to safety aspects etc...but that does look very spectacular and does look like it increases atmosphere tenfold!

It's SAFE standing. The clue's kind of in the name...

Even so, seating is safer IMO.

Standing in Safe Standing areas is safer than standing in seating areas.

People are always going to stand so what do you think the answer is?

Good point.

I think another important factor to remeber here, is that the club wanted to include the fans in the decision making process with the new stadium, in england, at leicester at leicester, the club don't give a fuck about the fans, and are quite happy to encourage all-seating, at least that certainly seems to be the way.

having said that, IFK Gøteborg have also this year built a new stadium, with a standing area (nothing like as good as Malmo's) and they seem to have pissed pff a lot of fans with the design of the ground... (not because of the terracing mind - the point being that even they have included a standing area, despite not seeming to be that interestd in what the fans expected for a stadium, furthermore IFK's stadium is owned by the City and is hsared by three clubs, so...)

i say if you want terracing, do it yourself.

We'll be happy to do the away corner for you...

Whilst you and your dear friends across the Pennines may well be able to have a good 5,000 at every home game and everyone up at aways it's a completely different story for almost every other club.

The current set-up in England at the moment is much more dangerous than any safe standing schemes, fans will not sit down and the numbers increase every year, last time we went Loftus road in Jan 08, probably 200 of us across the back stood, fast forward to 2 weeks ago, bar a tiny block of 50 or so in the middle, everyone stood.

Something really should be done but still people use the same old Hillsborough argument

lol I'm not against terracing or safe standing but I don't really think it'd make a massive difference to the atmospheres in grounds over here.

We always sit and drool over videos of walls of fans on the continent all bouncing together and booming out organized chants or tifos or whatever but we just don't really have the culture for it in this country.

Whilst I agree with you Finnigan. The nature of a terrace however develops the ideology of fan groups etc. without organisation. You can meet your mates in your specific position, no messing and atmosphere would grow. Its' the reason why the atmosphere is decent at unreserved seating games.

England invented the game and the atmosphere came from England aswell

England away fans are still better then any other.

That doesn't mean anything. The atmosphere in 90% of grounds in England is dry compared to abroad.

Yes but my point was that another nations have copied what started in England. Our clubs have been around 100+ years. Take the MLS, Been around since 1994 right. Not even 20 years, their clubs don't have the culture a english club as.
