martyn Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 Think DavieG is being harsh on Wellens. Yes his performances have tailed off, but he was arguably the stand out player in the first 2 months of the season. For my mind he's been playing too deep which has negated his ability to provide direct assists which I'm sure is what most people will see "creativity" as. To compare him with Oakley who has, for the most part, been utter garbage all season is a bit unfair.
fleckneymike Posted 15 December 2009 Posted 15 December 2009 Think I'll go the whole hog and blame King for them also! You can't disagree with the fact that they go looking for the ball to make things happen. Granted they aint playing great, but they have played better together without King and two wingers. 'Andy where are you' Bet they both think that most matches. If you dont touch the ball you aint going to be exposed. There are a few that need to improve, Wellens and Oakley can, not so sure King can. Do you understand football at all? I though Steve Claridge's scouting report might give you a few clues as to King's role in the side but obviously not. If you like the headless chicken approach from your midfielders then Joey's return is just around the corner. On the 'two wingers' front could you please tell me in what game we played two wingers and it worked? We've accrued more points with King than without.

The same could be said about King playing too deep - we saw on Saturday what he is capable of played in his best position, most games he's been playing behind Wellens so I'm not sure that Wellens has been too deep. As a whole our midfield including wingers are too defensive but I assume that's under orders.
davieG Posted 4 January 2010 Posted 4 January 2010 Leicester's Nigel Pearson hails midfielder Andy King Leicester City's Andy King King made his Leicester debut in 2007 aged 18 Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has praised the contribution midfielder Andy King is making to the team. The 21-year-old scored his fourth goal of the season in Saturday's 2-1 win over Swansea in the Championship. Pearson told BBC Radio Leicester that he has been impressed with King's overall impact on the team. "He was exceptional. For a young man, in his second full season, he's playing well but his contribution on all levels is excellent," he said.
acooling08 Posted 4 January 2010 Posted 4 January 2010 He could be a premiership player if he was consistent.
Tony Pine Posted 4 January 2010 Posted 4 January 2010 just needs to make more of an impact on games, consistently, and he will be a good player
sam_lcfc Posted 4 January 2010 Posted 4 January 2010 The original question was is he good enough in The Championship. And the lad quite clearly is. This team may not be full of star-studded players, but it has been good enough to get us into a very decent position in the league this season, which I for one would have grabbed with both hands at the start of the season. So moaning that players are being played out of position is a fairly harsh assessment. If we were struggling, then fair enough, but the tactics employed by Pearson (i.e. wide midfielders rather than out and out wingers) have been successful. If Gradel came in (or any other 'winger') I could see both full backs getting alot of stick as the cover would be worse as they would have much more to deal with without the support of the wide midfielders. In fact I would go as far to say that these tactics have played their part in our excellent overall defensive record. And at times the football we have played this season has been quality, as good as anything I have seen from a Leicester side in years. I think all of our players are allowed an off-day, they are human - its what makes football so interesting. It is ridiculously harsh of some people to criticise any factor of a promoted team (made up the majority of the same players - and without Tunchev) which is now fighting for a play-off spot over half way through the season. And if we are to consistently criticise individuals who have let the side down (apparently), I personally think that there are far more obvious candidates than King. I hope that the morons who have labelled him as not good enough for the Championship now re-assess that it was his FORM which was poor at times in December, not his ABILITY. Rant Over
Donut Posted 4 January 2010 Posted 4 January 2010 Yes i think he definitely has something What i will say is that he isnt noticed so much, and can go missing in games because i dont think he has one standout attribute in particular. You wont see a Dyer type dribbling run, or a big Howard style aerial leap, Or a brave Tunch or Brown tackle because these attributes stand out in particular in these players. King is a decent all round player without any one single defining attribute

taffyfox Posted 4 January 2010 Posted 4 January 2010 Got to say as a welshman following the foxes, the future looks bright for us taffs. A midfield of young Ramsey and Collison with the absolute legend of Andy King sitting in there..... look out...... You heard it here first City Prem Champs and Wales winning the Euro Champs...... I can dream......

King is a decent all round player without any one single defining attribute I'd say his shooting ability is top notch He will improve as he gets older too. I would imagine 2-3 years from now he will regularly get 10 goals + a season which is a fantastic return from a midfielder. The way he slotted the ball home on Saturday was just coolness personified and I don't think I would have rather have seen any other Leicester player striking the ball from that position on the pitch. Yes he needs to improve areas of his game such as being a little more robust and taking charge of games but that will come with experience and added responsibility that he will get the more seasoned he becomes.
Koke Posted 5 January 2010 Posted 5 January 2010 I would imagine 2-3 years from now he will regularly get 10 goals + a season which is a fantastic return from a midfielder. Agree. I was telling me mate that on Saturday. In a year or two's time, King will regularly get 10+ goals a season. He'll probably get 7 or 8 this season which is a decent return for someone who is nicely coming to terms with his first full Championship season.
Milan Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 Well, if you read my previous posts you'll see I needed a little convincing. Andy King well done this season, I'm a convert
Narborough_fox Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 the point in this poll? Of course he's good enough !
dogadug Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 the point in this poll? Of course he's good enough ! This poll was carried out earlier in the season when he wasn't having the best of spells. I voted yes, just for the record
Anish Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 11 goals from midfield is outstanding, whichever league you're in. King's got plenty of room for improvement but he ghosts into the box and scores goals like a top attacking midfielder. He can only get better too.
syston_fox Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 The way King was after the penalties has made me love the guy even more. He has the potential to be as big a legend at this club as the likes of Muzzy.
CKB Posted 13 May 2010 Posted 13 May 2010 He does go on vanishing acts at times but the second part of the season i feel he has really come on and 11 goals is it? from midfield is excellent.. So yes he is clearly good enough
