CKB Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 Have just had to put down our 13 year old jack russell We got him as a 6 week old and my daughter was 8 years old, they grew up together and he was her "brother". As with all JR's he was a litttle stupid, a lot needy and incredibly protective. every night he slept on her bed, every day they walked together. she took him for walks in her pram, he would meet her on the way home from school. She was an animal resuce person as she grew up, so we had sick, injured and dying creatures of all kinds in the house and he never harmed a single one of them, he had kittens trying to suckle from him, rats playing with him, baby guinea pigs climbing on him and even possum joey's sleeping on him. Never once did he threaten or harm them. Sadly, last month, his time came and we made a decision that caused more anguish than you can imagine (we could have kept him going for maybe a month or 2 more, but... is that in his best interest or ours?), we took him to the vet and my daughter knelt and stroked his head as he left us. Ahhh man that sucks! i got a 10 year old Jack Russell and dreading when that time comes i really am!

Zingari Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 What a gorgeous dog! you go for it girlfriend if it's between consenting adults , i say , "who should cast the first stone" ps (perhaps would be best if you are a bit more careful than that bloke with the gee gee in brauny though ) just joking
Mickey O'Neil Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 If I win the lotto, I'm buying a couple of Dobermans. I've wanted one for about 25 years now. Trouble is, my wife reckons she's really allergic to short haired dogs....and I don't believe her!!! If I win the lotto, I'm getting me some and she can fukcing leave me!!

DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Two German Shepherds, Katies and Poppy. Both are as soft as they come. They let me know when anyone's about though, and would have a go at anyone who wasn't invited in.

Lovely boy he is I rely on no one being brave enough to see if he will lick their fingers through the letter box but actually chew them a new arsehole should they open the door.
Guest nathan. Posted 15 January 2010 Posted 15 January 2010 World's oldest dog dies. Be like loosing a family member Fair old knock for a dog tho

It's a duplicate account of another poster of here. A painfully unfunny one.

Ignore him, sit back, make a nice hot drink, and enjoy the comedy gold dog I posted in a recent post within this thread.

You GSD owners can help me out here..... Been offered first dibs on a litter of GSD's due next month and seriously considering it.... was going to get a Rhodesian Ridgeback but love GSD's too and can have one for next to nothing as this person wants a good home for the pups rather than making money. Are theyre any drawbacks to these dogs? Im at work but one of us always pops home at lunchtime to let our other dog out and theres usually someone coming and going at various points so they wouldnt be left all day alone but are they destructive? Do they shed a lot of hairs? etc.... etc.... Hard to train or easy? How much exercise do you give them... our other dog gets about 45 mins a day and a quick walk for ten mins in the morning.. would that be enough? Just want to make sure we can give it a good home before committing? Thanks

On the other hand they are generally very smart dogs so as long as you are clear with your commands they are in my experience pretty easy to train. Certain stupid Chav types might also think that you have a GSD becuase they are hard. Which might be an issue in some locations. Bad hips are a major problem - I would want to know that the parents of the litter had had previous litters with no hip problems already, as you can get bad hips from two perfect dogs breeding. Mine is a great pet but he wants to be be as close to you as possible to us all the time so if you live in small house it can get annoying!!

Ahh thanks for that, yeah I knew about the Hip Dysplasia thingy before but both parents have been hip scored and the previous litter were fine Diet very important when theyre young for the same reason Im told. Will do some more research before making a decision, being responsible people and all that! Always good to hear from current owners though

Simmo86 Posted 17 October 2011 Posted 17 October 2011 Thread revival........ Anyway me and the other half are considering getting a Boxer for our home, does anybody on here have one? and if so what are they like, any tips you can give? From what I've been reading on the internet so far they need socialising with other animals/humans more or less straight away and need lots of exercise.
