Simi Posted 10 January 2010 Posted 10 January 2010 Rumours that he has walked out of Derby on their forum... I said from the word go it was a bad appointment for them, shall see how this develops.
Simi Posted 10 January 2010 Author Posted 10 January 2010 What were you doing on a Derby forum? One of my best friends supports Derby and he told me. Sure he'll be around to post about it later..
Fosse Boy Posted 10 January 2010 Posted 10 January 2010 Will spend his whole managerial career living in possibly the biggest shadow in the game. It's sad really because he did a decent job with Burton. Derby was always far too big a leap for him especially given whose son he is.
Edmund Posted 10 January 2010 Posted 10 January 2010 In all seriousness, it wouldn't surprise me to be honest. Derby have been steadily declining. They had a lot of injuries but when you have players who are past it like Savage and Dickov starting week in week out what do you expect. Albeit Dickov has supposedly played well for the Rams in his short spell. Maybe the jump up was to big and you can't help but think his appointment was more out of sentiment than ability.
Koke Posted 10 January 2010 Posted 10 January 2010 Shit appointment in the first place. In what other planet do a club of Derby's size pick a manager from non-league? He was appointed purely because of his name, and now it has backfired.
Daggers Posted 10 January 2010 Posted 10 January 2010 I find it a shame if it's true - I have a lot of respect for Clough jnr and hoped he'd do well, even if it was for Derby. They are a team like we were, one needing a drop and a full top2bottom change-around.

Me too, but like we said earlier in the pub he never seemed to have much confidence in his own abillity either which was never a good sign. He'll bounce back if its true

I think you're right about the jump from non-league to championship being too big for Clough, however the Derby job would probably try even the most experienced manager. Derby clearly have financial problems and just aren't in the position to buy any players. All the transfers I can think of involving Derby this season have either been players leaving or loan deals for players coming in. In that respect, there's very little Nigel Clough can do to arrest the slide if he's got no money to spend.
Fox You Forest Posted 10 January 2010 Posted 10 January 2010 Wonder if they'll go for Brian Laws, it's like a manager swap shop in the Championship.

True, and I'd imagine a lot of the players especially those that have been at the club since their brief premiership stint are on high wages. I think they've got one more year of parachute payments left though.

Through no fault of his own, he was hopelessly out of his depth there because he was thrown into a big job too quickly. I'd fully expect him to return at a League One or Two club and do a cracking job. Derby though do look in deep trouble, they were truly dreadful when they came to the Walkers and a 4-1 home defeat to Scunthorpe doesn't bode well at all. There seems to be a big name going down to League One every year, if Derby don't get a manager who knows how to get a team out of the shit with little money, it could be them.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 10 January 2010 Posted 10 January 2010 Just had a look on one of their forums, this was posted. If a poor excuse for a man like Savage were ever to tak charge of this football club, it would be a sad, sad day.
BoneDog Posted 10 January 2010 Posted 10 January 2010 I'm sure Jr Cloughie will bounce back (if rumour is true) and prove himself to be a good manager. He did a brilliant job at Burton and got 10 years managerial experience with them so I think he is ready for the step up to Championship level. Things just haven't worked out at Derby but I'm not sure much of that is his fault. I wonder if he regrets leaving Burton and wishes he stayed there for another season or two?
StanSP Posted 10 January 2010 Posted 10 January 2010 Could be a new lease of life for Derby with Clough going. Wonder who will come in though. Any news on Pearson being linked yet? Curbishley is always linked with jobs these days too.

To be honest there's a good chance he will be sacked considering they've just suffered a heavy home defeat to Scunthorpe and have been woeful for the best part of the season. I just wouldn't get ahead of ourselves and start prematurely linking other managers to the helm whilst he's still manager.
RedHux Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 He's just been on ssn saying he can't buy anyone and things are hard right now.
Kilworthfox Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 He's just been on ssn saying he can't buy anyone and things are hard right now. Wheeeeey Derby doing badly, how sad!
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 His next two league games are Posh and Plymouth away so i think he needs a minimum of 4 points there. Is the Millwall game included in those 3?
