joely22 Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 Rumours going round today are that he handed his resignation in last night but it was rejected by our board. Personally feel that it's time for him to go. It's a shame that he hasn't done anything on the field but his work off the field has been top notch. His biggest mistake was bringing his Burton backroom team with him, he should have appointed an experienced Assistant. The board won't sack him. I doubt they'll sack him even if we get relegated, which is looking more and more likely as the weeks go by. We have Forest in about 3 weeks, a heavy defeat to them and not much from the two games previous could well see him walk.

Maybe it was a gesture, to show that he understood that the result vs Scunny was unacceptable? He seems like a nice genuine guy & I hope he does well, just not for your lot
StanSP Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 Not sure if the Millwall game is included, but I know they've got Forest on the 30th! Bet if he stays til then, they win that, then gets the boot.

Most managers would be happy to stay on and wait for the sack so they can receive their inevitable large pay off. Definitely a footballing man.
Fox92 Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 I hope not. I do like Nigel Clough. It would be a shame to see him not in football anymore. I have a lot of respect for both Nigel and Brian Clough. I thought he was turning it around as well, when they beat Watford, was it? If they have Peterborough and Plymouth next though, I think he'll want 6 points. Hope he hasn't gone/doesn't go and does very well with Derby - as long as they are still below us though.
Simi Posted 11 January 2010 Author Posted 11 January 2010 A few mediocre seasons after relegation from the Premier League. A few different managers. Ownership changes. Seems the recipe for a season in League 1 these days...

I actually wnat them to beat Posh because even though I dislike Derby greatly, from today I have a £5 bet with a Posh fan that Posh will not stay up.

Sad state of affairs when the board are having to reject a resignation from someone like Nigel Clough.
Flynny Posted 11 January 2010 Posted 11 January 2010 All the media stories when he got the job were saying that the Derby board knew it was a tough thing to turn round and he had 3 years so long as he didn't get them relegated and progressed season on season, or at least that was the impression I got. Expecting him to get them top half with a shit, bloated squad is ridiculous. If he doesn't take Derby down he should get until next christmas, minimum.
Ultra Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 Robbie Savage said earlier in the season (even before they played us) that their main aim this season was Championship survival. It seemed a ridiculous thing to say at the time, but subsequent events have shown there are some serious issues at Pride Park. The current presence of Forest and ourselves in the league's top five is not making those issues any easier to deal with. If, as is possible, 'Wall knock the sheep out of the Cup tonight, Clough junior could well be gone by the weekend.

Totally agreed, everyone knew this was going to be a long-term turnaround not a quick fix. Not being a Derby fan I don't know, but do that many of their fans want him out already?
Webbo Posted 12 January 2010 Posted 12 January 2010 Heard a lot of this on the radio today. Savage really gives the radio Derby man a booll0cking. Radio Derby. Furious Robbie Savage hits back at Derby County rumours I'm sure after Saturday's performance the manager would have liked to have got 16 more players but he can't Derby midfielder Robbie Savage Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage has reacted furiously to rumours that the players think the club's backroom staff are not up to the job. Savage has launched a scathing attack after hearing a phone-in on BBC Radio Derby following Saturday's 4-1 home mauling at the hands of S****horpe. Savage said: "The backroom staff are up to the job - no question in my mind and no question in the players' minds. "I sit in that dressing room and they are up to the job, so is the manager." The defeat means that Nigel Clough's side are in 18th spot in the Championship table. They are five points above the relegation zone but have played more games than all the teams around them. In a heated interview, Savage admitted recent displays and performances have simply not been good enough. "All you can do is go out there and try your best and on Saturday and in the last three home games it hasn't been good enough," Savage added. "I'm sure after Saturday's performance the manager would have liked to have got 16 more players and said 'listen, you lot are not playing against Millwall, I'm going to get my own players in' but he can't, simple."

Kilworthfox Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 I just listened to that right now - wow. Savage was angry.... At first the reporter didnt have a clue what to do.. . Was nice to hear Savage being able to hold a conversation & being serious for a change. I did like how he came out protecting the manager & the players & the club, showed very good leadership IMO.
Head Honcho Posted 13 January 2010 Posted 13 January 2010 Quality reposte from Savage. I did of course mean riposte!
