Ric Flair Posted 29 January 2010 Posted 29 January 2010 Girlfriend is off on holiday with her family first 2 weeks of April, so I'm looking to head off and do something different for a couple of weeks. But, for a change, I don't have a clue where to go.Any ideas? I'm not looking ofr a beach holiday - needs to be some place interesting/fun/weird. Where have you been recently that you'd recommend to others and why? Where on earth would you most like to go? NATHAN! I would be interested to hear about Malaysia JAMES L! Didn't you go to Nepal recently? Anyone been to UAE - Dubai, Bahrain, Qatar - is it worthwhile or will it be full of sleazy brits buying fake prada on fake beaches? Distance isn't a problem, but I'd like to keep the flight under £600, so New Zealand, Australia, and most of South America are out. Oh, and if others want to use this thread for a similar thing, go ahead! Monk, you still in London? If so check this out at the weekend. http://www.adventuretravellive.com/ Hope that helps, might have a wander down myself tonight if i'm not on the piss.
martyn Posted 29 January 2010 Posted 29 January 2010 Mexico: Specifically Oaxaca and Chiapas for an adventure rather than beach oriented break. Thailand/Cambodia/Laos/Vietnam: Pick and choose 2 of these countries, lots to reccomend in all of them although it will probably be stinking hot at this time of year. Croatia: Simply because I'm going for 5 days in May. Looks great, Dubrovnik, the adriatic islands, hire a car and drive to the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro (as someone has mentioned), take a trip to Sarajevo/Mostar in Bosnia. Lots of things to keep you occupied for 2 weeks and will be cheap to get to (Managed to secure myself flights to Dubrovnik for £55 return)
Monk Posted 29 January 2010 Author Posted 29 January 2010 For a different holiday you could try Tel Aviv, the beach is nice and there are some great places to go around Israel, I'd recommend Ceasarea, Dead Sea, Jerusalem, Masada etc. The security situation is not a problem (I've been there 4 times in the last year with no problems). Otherwise Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia would be good calls. Not convinced I want an israel stamp in my passport. However I bet it is a fascinating place. Maybe if I some day get an American passport I will head over there.

Maybe if I some day get an American passport I will head over there. There are ways to get in without a stamp in your passport, you just have to apply. An Israeli stamp isn't too much problem, a few muslim states will take a close look it's more difficult if you have a middle east stamp and want to get into Israel.
BoneDog Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 My uncle went to Borneo a few years ago and said it was an excellent place to go. It was a holiday full of variety and beautiful sights. And Orangutans, so you canna go wrong really. Just thought I'd mention (not starting debate or oat ) that Borneo is on extremely high terror alert at the moment. The yanks have warned of attacks so they are probably planning a few bombs. 'The US embassy in Kuala Lumpur said last week that there were indications that criminal and terrorist groups are planning strikes in isolated areas of eastern Sabah state on Borneo Island, including the diving resort of Sipadan. It identified the destinations of Semporna, Mabul and Sipadan and called on US citizens to "please avoid or use extreme caution in connection with any travel in these areas or locations." '
