Monk Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Girlfriend is off on holiday with her family first 2 weeks of April, so I'm looking to head off and do something different for a couple of weeks. But, for a change, I don't have a clue where to go. Any ideas? I'm not looking ofr a beach holiday - needs to be some place interesting/fun/weird. Where have you been recently that you'd recommend to others and why? Where on earth would you most like to go? NATHAN! I would be interested to hear about Malaysia JAMES L! Didn't you go to Nepal recently? Anyone been to UAE - Dubai, Bahrain, Qatar - is it worthwhile or will it be full of sleazy brits buying fake prada on fake beaches? Distance isn't a problem, but I'd like to keep the flight under £600, so New Zealand, Australia, and most of South America are out. Oh, and if others want to use this thread for a similar thing, go ahead!

Dunno how much flights are but its high on my list of places to go now!
Monk Posted 28 January 2010 Author Posted 28 January 2010 That is an awesome idea Lou... have a few friends who have been there and they all say it's awesome. However - flights are a cool £800. Ouch.
samlcfc Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Canada is a great place. Awesome landscape and loads of things to do if you go to the right places.Think it cost quite a bit though.
Monk Posted 28 January 2010 Author Posted 28 January 2010 Yeah I spent some time in Canada a couple of years ago, it really is awesome, and HUGE. Nova Scotia and NewFoundland are the only 2 provinces I've not been to (Bar Yukon and Nunavut in the far north). Flights are certainly affordable, and I have a couple of friends in Halifax too. Nice option. it's on the list
Spencer Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Thailand is supposed to be amazing. My colleagues and friends bang on about it all the time!
Monk Posted 28 January 2010 Author Posted 28 January 2010 Liking the Asia ideas... I have just counjoured up a plan of going from Singapore to Hong Kong by train via Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and China. Hell yeah
AoWW Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Hong Kong. Thailand is amazing if you pick the right bits and stay away from the typical tourist traps. Cambodia... Ankor Wat?! I know several people who've been to the Middle East, especially Qatar and Dubai. None seem to be particularly impressed (although grudgingly agree it was an 'experience') or in a hurry to go back there. Shanghai is supposed to be amazing too. No idea how much the flights are though. Costa Rica is high on my list, but I think getting there is convoluted (flight-wise) and therefore expensive. Closer to home I know a few people who've 'done' Morocco recently and have loved it.
James. Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Not been Nepal mate. Cuba would be my recommendation. We got flights for under £400 during October.
AjcW Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 That is an awesome idea Lou... have a few friends who have been there and they all say it's awesome. However - flights are a cool £800. Ouch. Im going to borneo next week for two months with STA travel... theyve got an office in leicester. £460 return my Flights.
Monk Posted 28 January 2010 Author Posted 28 January 2010 The Bay of Kotor, Montenegro. Just google imaged that - looks incredible! James - like the Cuba idea.. flights are looking a bit dea though. AJCW - No idea how to get flights to Borneo that cheap - who are you flying with??

AJCW - No idea how to get flights to Borneo that cheap - who are you flying with?? Malaysian airlines. If you live in leicester go into the STA travel office, they are easily the best. Its on Belvoir street.

Highly reccommended. You can get flights for around £400 if you go at the right time of year. Try looking at a return to NY or Miami then a second flight with TACA or COPA airlines who are both OK.
James. Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Before deciding to go climb a mountain we actually did a lot of research into going to the Middle East. Not to Dubai or any of that nonsense but places like Jordan, Syria and Israel (possible to see all 3 in 2 weeks). They all looked amazing, flights with BMI (I think) were pretty cheap too.
AmericanScott Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 My girlfriend went to Tunisia a couple of years ago for Easter with her family. Looks really nice from the pics i seen.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 28 January 2010 Posted 28 January 2010 Any one been to Russia? Thoughts and how hard was it obtaining a visa?
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 29 January 2010 Posted 29 January 2010 I'm off in July!Yellow fever. It's splendid but doesn't have a very long life span and you will get bored very easily after a week. That being said if ya get struck down with the old yellow fever you might never leave
Uncle Albert Posted 29 January 2010 Posted 29 January 2010 Im going to borneo next week for two months. So you wont be around for 2 months on here?
Sir Fynwy Posted 29 January 2010 Posted 29 January 2010 For a different holiday you could try Tel Aviv, the beach is nice and there are some great places to go around Israel, I'd recommend Ceasarea, Dead Sea, Jerusalem, Masada etc. The security situation is not a problem (I've been there 4 times in the last year with no problems). Otherwise Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia would be good calls.
