davieG Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 Seems like he's got a history of sendings off - a rival for Walshy no less From Give Me Football. Leicester midfielder Ritchie Wellens was sent off for the ninth time in his career on the half-hour mark after picking up his second yellow card of the game
Guest Mee-9 Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 Seems like he's got a history of sendings off - a rival for Walshy no lessFrom Give Me Football. Said to my brother, when he got booked, he's going to get sent off, then Solano came out in his shorts, started warming up. Then he got sent off. He's that type of player though isn't he. Could see him getting sent off more often, He'll get skinned, then hack someone down out of frustration.
lou Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 He was giving the ref a lot of back chat afterwards too, definately using the F word a few times.... didnt help the situation Im sure
Ozwin Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 We need that type of player though, I love the bloke. I hope he doesn't get too much stick for the sending off, yeah it was stupid but there wasn't a lot he could do about it really. It was one of those where you don't have time to think to make a decision.

Where's the merit in mistimed, late and dangerous tackles that leaves a team short-handed and more than likely costs them points plus his perfomances have deteriorated game by game until he's now become one of the worst contributors to the team.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 Lucky that Berner didnt get sent off too! It was a very harsh decision with it being better to have just gave him a abloocking rather than book him for each tackle. There were much worse fouls committed by them but the ref didnt want to know.
leftsideoverhere Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 Only saw the tackles a couple of times so far, and while the first one was all that you say, Davie, I just can't see the second one as a bookable offence at all. Can anyone seriously say that Wellens deserved to get sent off today?

We do need someone to stick their foot in but the best players know when to stop and rein it in. 9 career reds is an appalling record, nothing to be proud of.

Yes he should have been sent off for the first one alone - If someone had done that tackle on one of our players wed have been baying for a red card. It was nasty, then he was effing and blinding at the ref too, could easily have gone there and then.

This. He's done very little to justify spending the overwhelming majority of our transfer budget on him, and today he was a liability - was obvious he was going to get himself sent off.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 It's not clever 9 red cards. Agree partially with the bit that we need someone to stick their foot in. But what would of happened if Wellen's would of brought Routledge down in the penalty area. Could of been worse. Wellens was F*ing and Blinding at the ref, in the respect fixture Balls to the fans showing respect, how about players. Not condoning the ref's performance by saying this.

Got to agree Davie. Maybe i love the old skool days of football too much, when a tackle like that would have been classed as 'making his presence felt'. I watch quite a lot of vintage football on the sky box and the difference in attitude towards tackling is so different. More MANLY. But rules is rules and i see your point. I'm not angry at Wellens at all. Get in there!
Jimmy Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 He was giving the ref a lot of back chat afterwards too, definately using the F word a few times.... didnt help the situation Im sure lets face it that **** of a ref deserved every word
TrickyTrev Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 He deserved to go, should never have tugged him back when he was on a booking. The only mistake the ref made was not giving a free kick and yellow card for the kung fu kick tackle on Waghorn. He may have won the ball but it was clearly dangerous play.
lou Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 lets face it that **** of a ref deserved every word At the game Id have said yes, but having watched the first yellow again a few times it was nasty and could deffo have been a red Can understand why he gave him some verbal after the 2nd though which was a fecking joke of a booking.

You have to book deliberate fouls, the game would be awful if it were a legitimate form of defense. Yellow cards should be for cynical or dangerous tackles, Wellens covered both of these with his two discretions.
lou Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 how about the assault on Waggy just before Berner got booked Im not saying he wasnt a dick
Donut Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 lets face it that **** of a ref deserved every word It would appear that **** of a referee actually got it RIGHT on the Wellens decision not that i saw it that way at the time, but now ive had time to calm down a bit and review the incidents, hes got no complaints. To be sent off 9 times in a career, jesus christ thats awful hes got more red cards left in him too

Let alone common sense?! Ive seen hundreds of deliberate fouls not get booked
The Doctor Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 how about the assault on Waggy just before Berner got booked that was less of a tackle and more attempted GBH. No doubt the FA will turn a blind eye to that even if someone flags it up, unlike rugby where players actually get punished for something you get arrested for outside of a match (eye-gouging, stomping etc.) in football the FA/FIFA and UEFA will talk the talk but when they need to show their power by actually taking action against a player they'll run off scared.

The Doctor Posted 30 January 2010 Posted 30 January 2010 Just me who thought the ref was ok? yep. He wasn't the worst ref i've ever seen but he was still pretty close to it. Watching the match again on sky, i can see why wellens was sent off but other than that the calls he made remain rediculous even having seen them 4-5 times on replay. That ref really showed why the Respect campaign deserves our full support, after all even if they do make several contesious(sp) desicisions, god forbide we should say something, it might hurt the ickle babies feelings - what ever happened to "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me"?
