The 30-year-old fan, who was thought to have been hit on the head with a bin, was found unconscious. He was taken to hospital where he later died. A 25-year-old man from Preston has been arrested over the incident. Police inquiries Staffordshire Police said the injured man was initially treated at the scene for a head injury and cardiac arrest by staff from West Midlands Ambulance Service and St John Ambulance. Super_horns Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Shocking...its only a game. We all can get heated and annoyed at poor performances but to attack your fellow fan over it?
lou Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Doesnt mean it was a deliberate attack, could have been some pratt messing about with the bin? Either way terrible thing to happen.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 I read on another forum about what happened. A Rovers fan was at the game, he said that at half time in the small Stoke concourse, it started to kick off between fans as they weren't playing well. Things got more heated when bottles started being thrown, before someone decided to pick up the bin and throw it. Quote: you'd think no matter how bad it gets, and 3-0 at Stoke is pretty damn bad, you still wouldn't be fighting with your own fans.If anyone saw the news of a man in a critical condition in our away end at the game today, he didn't collapse or die of old age or anything. From half time on in that concourse at Stoke there was essentially a riot, a huge fight between our own fans. Anyone who has been to Stoke knows how small the concourse is down there, and with hundreds crammed in there at half time, with the bar shut and the team shit, tempers were a bit frayed to begin with. No idea how it started, don't really want to know to be honest. First it was just bottles and anything anyone could find being thrown around, with people trying to get back to seats but hardly being able to move. Then.. well, some utter moron, who I hope is found, took one of the big metal bins and simply started throwing it. The man in a critcal conidtion was hit in the head with it. He was pretty much dead on the ground, they've brought him round in hospital, just about. We were kept on the ground, and they ended up letting us off via the pitch. Apparently, it would seem this is what happens when us and Burnley get in the same division. Its sickening. Our away attendances, and trouble away from home, have both gone up this year, coming to the fore front today. Why? Becuase these idiots just want Burnley tickets to go and do the same there. I honestly can't see myself travelling away with Blackburn again, having been able to count on one hand the games ive missed over the last few years. at today.
lou Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 I heard it kicked off because they stopped selling beer. Anyway it appears this is the 3rd incident between Blackburn Rovers fans recently according to that forum link at the start of this thread. Some are suggesting their fans have been infiltrated by rival fans... I think its more a case of they dont want to believe their own fans are capable of behaving like that!
AoWW Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Tragic - no one should die at a football game, especially not if it's caused by their own fans. I hope the idiot/s who are responsible for this guy's death are identified by CCTV or other fans' reports and never attend a football match again in their lives. If it's true that it was some cretin chucking one of those huge metal bins around then, no, he might not have intended to kill with it - but it doesn't take a genius to work out that surely there's the likelihood of causing death or serious injury by doing so. Seems to me that some folks have one or two drinks and all thought for others disappears completely.
Tilley Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Jesus Christ, some real scumbags in this world. Violence at football is disgusting at any level but with your own fans? Idiots. I hope the person responsible is found and convicted for what they have done.

purpleronnie Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Its truely sad, I'm sure he didn't mean it and maybe had too many beers, no excuse though. Its like when you hear about a fight and someone falls and dies, a moment of stupidity can turn into a nightmare. RIP.
dandannieldanok Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 I hope the FA or Premier League (or whoever has the authority), doesn't allow Blackburn to take away fans to matches for the remainder of this season. Fighting is unacceptable, somebody dying because of it? it's just incomprehensible.

dandannieldanok Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 I don't believe you should punish all fans just because of the actions of one. I did think about this ^ but it sounds like a fair few were fighting rather than just one bloke. Of course it would mean a small group of morons ruining it for a thousand or so good fans, but some strict action needs to be taken, a life has been wasted here.
DB11 Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 That's awful Fans fighting between themselves and rioting? Hope the guy gets found and punished RIP
davieG Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 Not that it was necessarily a contributing factor in this, although it can't have helped as it would prevent people taking evasive action but I often wonder how, in these days of strict H&S vetting these grounds get passed as safe when the concourses are so small in comparison to the maximum capacities. Even new stadiums like ours the concourse is much too small, with queues blocking off access and people carrying hot drinks.
C-man Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 I remember being down in that concourse moments before our game at Stoke kicked off. It was absolutely mental down there. Bottles and people flying all over the place. That seemed quite light hearted though. It got more serious at half time with the Stoke fans. Horrible place. Horrible incident.
Fosse Boy Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 RIP to the poor bloke. Absolutely shocked when I saw the news this morning.
Tevez Posted 7 February 2010 Posted 7 February 2010 No-one deserves to die watching the team they support. Disgrace RIP
Guest Basildon Fox Posted 8 February 2010 Posted 8 February 2010 Don't usually get involved with shite on facebook but there is a page of condolence for the man if anyone is interested and had a young child. Just hope his kid wasn't with him when this happened. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?v=wall&a...id=294771062084
