Vlad The Impaler Posted 10 February 2010 Posted 10 February 2010 How can you play Solano in the middle?Won't get many crosses in from there if he's stuck in a midfield battle all game. If his passing is as good as it's said to be then I think he'd be better off in the middle, he can spread the ball around the pitch and create chances for our front men, we've lacked alot of creativity this season. Plus he won't have alot of speed at his age. Think lower class David Beckham
sbfox Posted 10 February 2010 Posted 10 February 2010 Anything but a shite 4-4-2. If Kermo is back, stick him up top, if not, Dany could do a job. In the twenty-odd years I've been a member of Foxestalk, I can't recall ever disagreeing with Cobbo. It's round pegs in round holes. On the wings, pace and delivery. Up front, C3PO and R2D2 compliment each other nicely.
lcfcsnow Posted 10 February 2010 Posted 10 February 2010 Steve Howard still appearing in peoples teams... Although we probably don't deserve to be, we are still in a top 6 position so the objective has to be to stay there. Like Dickov he is no longer required. I can count on one hand the amount of good games that mardy arse has had for us in this league over 2 seasons.

BTW You and Cobbo may be in agreement but you are both hopelessly wrong. In many ways but C3P0 is actually more mobile than Howard, which pretty much says it all. Oh, and R2D2 has a better right foot than Waggy!...

Don't get me wrong - I was opposed to signing the whinging wheelie bin in the first place, and scoring in four of his last 40 Championship appearances for City has been the depressing but expected output. But we are where we are, which is without Fryatt, Campbell, Dickov and most probably Kermorgant, all of whom could play a central striking role. I'm not sold on 4-3-3, for City now, or in general. I think (though I'm no Andy Townsend) that you need bags of pace up front if you're going to play with a stodgy midfield trio like King, Oakley and Wellens - Pearson doesn't seem to go for N'Guessan and Dyer at the same time, and playing them with, say Howard, is a bit like the Royal Navy going on manouveres with two driverless speedboats and the QE2. 4-4-2 for me. I don't mind who the front two are - it could be a good opportunity to play Gallacher just off someone - Waggers or Howard. Surely, with goal scoring opportunities a bit scant at the moment, Pearson needs to find a way of utilising Solano's quality from dead balls? 4-4-2 seems to be the best way of doing that, and it's an invitation for Howard to shut his trap and get on the end of some decent crosses for a change?

OK, here we go. When we play with 2 men in central midfield we are outnumbered and overwhelmed pretty much every time, why on earth do you think Pearson played Oakley in that horrible narrow right position? Gallagher is not the man to 'lead the line'! He has no pace, no presence in the air and his instincts in front of goal are not good enough. His role is that of a 'second' or support striker or as I prefer, a creative midfielder alongside Oakley and King. In either position he makes things happen around the box, and he, himself is more dangerous striking from distance. Really get some pace up front, ideally with Kermorgant to lead the line with Waghorn on the left and N'Guessan on the right, both of whom can cut inside, on their stronger foot, to support the center forward. If Yanni is still out as seems likely, Danni goes central with Dyer on the left which still leaves us with 3 pacy front players. Gallagher takes the set pieces, he is way better than Oakley or any one else for that matter. If Solano is to get a game, then for me it has to be at right back.
