Richard Posted 12 February 2010 Posted 12 February 2010 He's putting in some fantastic performances at Burton Albion and he's becoming a hit with us brewers fans. Tom Parkes is Superman.
Hitesh Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 Do you reckon he has the ability to cut it at a higher level judging by what you've seen?
jonno24 Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 been to see this chap a couple of times down the Pirelli and have to say he is playing at the level most people 5-6 years older than him are he really is one to watch.
CosbehFox Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 Do you reckon he has the ability to cut it at a higher level judging by what you've seen? I went last night to watch Burton play and I'd say it was touch and go. He made a fair few mistakes last night but did some very good things, difficult to tell off one game anyways.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 Good, sounds a prospect by what I've heard!
Thracian Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 He seems to have made an encouraging start, depending on the standard expected by the commentators. What you get every time I've watched Parkes play is 100% focus, effort and enthusiasm. All are vital qualities for a professional. His major failing to me is that he's far too ambitious for his ability when on the ball and forever hits long passes which donate the ball to the opposition again. But, is that likely to hold him back? It wouldn't seem so. Just look at our first team's back four. Berner to some extent excepted, they offer weekly evidence that retaining possession is neither here nor there so long as they defend rigourously. Kisnorbo, McAuley, Hobbs, Brown, Morrison .... resilient stoppers, no question, but all five consistently ignore the simple passes in favour of the hopeful hoof. Parkes may be wasteful but that's not stopped him playing Englanmd age-group football and it's not made him any worse than the others mentioned. So, overall, he's got every chance of breaking through and I hope he does. Generally he's okay. I just wish he'd learn to play it simple in possession.
CosbehFox Posted 13 February 2010 Posted 13 February 2010 I just wish he'd learn to play it simple in possession. He did that very well last night and the more I think over it he's accomplished at League 2 level really. Had a chat with my Dad today about him after both watching him last night and agreed that when he did make mistakes it just happened to be when a header needed winning or a block needed putting in (he sold himself for Crewe's first goal). However, he was a good 'stopper' and his first touch last night was immense, a beautiful left footed slide tackle.
Richard Posted 13 February 2010 Author Posted 13 February 2010 I must agree he didn't look fully confident challenging for the high balls. Parkes impressed me more than Worley did for Crewe tbh.
