Ian Stringer on EMT "playoffs an almost certainty"

Stupid comment in my opinion. With one of our games in hand being Cardiff away we are still a long way from being in the play offs. We still have a third of the season to go and comments like this only puts pressure on the team and gives other clubs extra motivation.

Stringer is only a fan like anyone else, he has opinion on things to do with LCFC as anyone else, just because stringer thinks we are a certainty doesnt mean it is, i think we'll win 2moro, doesnt mean we are.

Pearson's adding abit of pressure onto the players so they can perform better and get the points.

When the manager is saying similar things he's hardly breaking new ground or adding pressure that isn't already there.

Pearson's hardly saying we're a dead cert for the play-offs, it's completely different.

These comments shouldn't have any bearing on anything, after all the guys just some local broadcaster, but still it's a ridiculous statement for him to make.

Agreed. The guy's a proper gompa.

:D

Damn right he is, I'd be more worried if this statement was coming out of the club. As previously said, he is just a fan after all.

I didn't say he was I said similar. The fact that Pearson's talking openly about the play-offs implies that he thinks we're in with pretty good chance and he must be feeling confident otherwise he wouldn't mention it.

Stringer's just being more openly confident.

Either way Stringer's comments are hardly going to add to the pressure on the players which was the point I was making.

If Pearson hadn't raised the profile of the play-offs I'd agree but he did.

I haven't actually heard this interview or seen the whole transcript but from the exact words I've read from your other topic, I don't see Pearson mention the play-offs once. Seems to me like the mercury are twisting it to drawn in buyers of the paper, talk of play-offs is bound to raise interest and sell a few more papers. If they hadn't have provided a title or a opening line, just the Pearson quotes, I wouldn't really have guessed Pearson was talking about the play-offs, merely about the general form of the team and how he's hoping it will continue. Maybe I'm missing something from it. :dunno:

Having re-read the Merc article you're correct. Although one could surmise that both the Merc & RL have come up with similar 'Play-off' headlines at the same time so probably following the same press interview with Pearson. So if he didn't actually mention it by name it would seem he gave some pretty strong indications of how he saw the situation for them both to conclude similar outcomes.

But I agree now that Stringer's went too far although I don't think it will affect the team adversely as I still think they lack belief in the potential as a team in this league.

Stringer

I wouldn't say they are almost a certainty just yet, 65% for us to finish in the playoffs, 35% to miss out at moment for me.

It is Sinclair I have the issue with. At least stringer has a bit of passion. Sinclair just depresses me

I'd rather hear nothing about the certainty of us doing anything. There is nothing certain in football. The next game is all that matters and being fully focused on winning it.

Besides, journalists should be telling us things we don't know rather than acting as amateur soothsayers.

Daft thing to say... nothing is certain and (at the risk of sounding superstitious) this sort of thing just tempts fate!

Me and my friend were talking of it being a City vs Forest final... the perfect scenario for me would be us meeting them in the final, them taking a 3-0 lead into half time and then we stage a second half comeback to level it at 3-3 meaning extra time... they then take the lead in extra time before we score 2 in the last 2 minutes of extra time to go up.

WHAT a game that would be, and at Wembley... PLEASE!!! PLEEEEAAASEEEE!!! :scarf:
