Matt Posted 9 March 2010 Posted 9 March 2010 Looks like it wasn't just a blip when A. Marriner took charge of our game v Newcastle, I didn't see the game but sounds like he had a bit of a mare last night ending in Gerrard getting in trouble showing him the V. RESPECT THE REF.

Uncle Albert Posted 9 March 2010 Posted 9 March 2010 Marriner had an absolute shocker last night, the tackle that lead to Gerrard getting booked wasnt even a foul or a booking, clearly took the ball!

Agreed, if that sort of a tackle is going to be getting a booking any time soon it is a sad state of affairs.
DB11 Posted 9 March 2010 Posted 9 March 2010 I believe the tackle was a foul A direct free kick is awarded to the opposing team if a player commits anyof the following seven offences in a manner considered by the referee to be careless, reckless or using excessive force: • kicks or attempts to kick an opponent • trips or attempts to trip an opponent • jumps at an opponent • charges an opponent • strikes or attempts to strike an opponent • pushes an opponent • tackles an opponent He may have won the ball, but going through the back of the player was at least careless and could be viewed as reckless.

The Doctor Posted 9 March 2010 Posted 9 March 2010 I believe the tackle was a foul He may have won the ball, but going through the back of the player was at least careless and could be viewed as reckless. so why didn't he give fouls for some of the Newcastle challanges when we played them. Some of the challenges (in paticular Taylor on Waghorn) were far more reckless than the gerrard challenge yet the ref didn't even give a free-kick, Similarly berners challenge on routledge - reckless challenge, no booking.
Matt Posted 9 March 2010 Author Posted 9 March 2010 In my opinion, I think Andre Marriner is one of the best referees, and yesterdays performance has only cemented that (I do think he had a good game). Wellens' second yellow card was deliberate and tactical - an easy yellow card for unsporting behaviour. Just accept it people, DB11 is never going to slag a fellow colleague off.
Koke Posted 9 March 2010 Posted 9 March 2010 To be honest Matt, the sheer hatred and vitriol you have for referees is quite worrying. Slagging them off in post match threads is one thing, but I've often seen you go on a bizarre tirade against them as if they were sub-human. Refs have always made mistakes, and they will always make mistakes, and yes they do deserve to be respected as officials. Sitting in your, collectively, armchairs watching Sky and getting replays from 15 different angles is quite different from being in a stadium in front of thousands and having to make split second decisions.

Sitting in your, collectively, armchairs watching Sky and getting replays from 15 different angles is quite different from being in a stadium in front of thousands and having to make split second decisions. This is why we need video technology or technology to help the referees - Some people put a dirty big line through the word technology yet still slag the referees off, I support technology and realise everyone makes mistakes. So that is the F.A, F.L, and/or Fifa's problem to rectify. Referees are making more and more blatant mistakes, more and more often and some are just getting pathetic - thus the slagging off, thus the lack of respect, I understand their human, everyone makes mistakes, I don't expect a referee to go a whole game not making 1 mistake but some are just blatant and clearly favouring one team over another - or so it seems. I always go into a game, focused on a the game ahead, focused on my team winning and never go into a game wanting to hate or wanting to have to slag the referee off, unfortunately there's not many matches I can watch, even as a neutral that I come out of where a referee hasn't made several clear cut mistakes - where either the assistant referee's (Because tbh the assistant's seem to give referees no help whatsoever - Infact they probably make more mistakes with offsides and what not) or technology could have rectified decisions. On a whole it is the F.A, F.L, and/or Fifa I have the problem with, there persistence with the 'Respect The Referee' campaign is laughable and as a fan of the game is insulting - How can you respect someone who makes blatent mistake yet are given no help with decisions or backup? Yet they F.A, F.L, and/or Fifa still do nothing to help them, and change our view on respecting the officials, but the officials are the ones there making the wrong decisions time and time again which ultimately winds the fans up, thus dishing the abuse out.
