Guest ttfn Posted 16 March 2010 Posted 16 March 2010 Weale 8 - A couple of cracking stops, particularly one from a header from a corner. Solano 8 - So, so composed on the ball and rarely troubled defensively. Hobbs 8 - Gave the ball away a fair bit in the first period but was terrific in the air. Morrison 7 - Conceded too many free kicks but otherwise defended well. Berner 8.5 - Well taken goal, excellent in the tackle. Hero. Wellens 5.5 - Was at the heart of everything negative about City's second half performance. Constantly passing the ball backwards. There are times when that is appropriate. Not when your opponents have only 10 men, there is half an hour to go and your opponents are there for the taking. Oakley 6.5 - A bit more positive than Wellens but gave the ball away too often. Lung bursting run at the end helped relieve some pressure. King 7 - Knitted the play well and kept things ticking over in midfield. Gallagher 7 - No real impact, but did his bits and pieces well. Dyer 7.5 - Very positive and went on a couple of decent runs. Little end product unfortunately. Waghorn 7.5 - Worked his socks off, held off the defenders well. subs: Howard 6 - Won his flick ons and worked quite hard. Just not the player he was last year. N'Guessan and Adams didn't do much. Pearson too negative. And yet we got 3 points! Up the City!
Ealing Fox Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Weale 8 - Couldn't ask for much more from him. Solano 8.5 - Looked a class above, even if a little slower. Hobbs 7 - Pretty commanding. Morrison 7 - A little lucky on a couple of occasions, but generally solid Berner 9 - A very solid performance once again, and a goal of course. Wellens 6.5 - Worked hard but I felt he could have supported Waghorn better. Oakley 7 - Stayed in the centre with King and held the game together King 6.5 - See above. Gallagher 5 - 8 for effort, but 2 for effectivity. Seemed to get lost between being a winger and a forward and was the worst of both worlds, not terrible though... Dyer 7.5 - A good Dyer performance: bursts of pace and worried defenders, did the unusual at times, but faded a little also. Waghorn 7.5 - Worked hard and looked effective. Howard 6 - Spent a lot of time on his own, which is never when he's at his best. N'Guessan - N/A Adams - N/A
martyn Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Our keepball was absolutely fine, they couldn't get near us until Howard came on for Waghorn when things change and our crowd grew impatient for no good reason, anyhow. Weale 7.5 - Not much to do but pulled off a fine save to deny Hill (i think) Solano 8.5 - Class. So composed defensively and hardly wasted a pass. Morrison 6.5 - Not his best performance aerially but still competend. Overly casual at times in 2nd half Hobbs 7.5 - Solid Berner 8 - Defensvely sound and supported the attack well. Delivery was better than usual. Wellens 6.5 - Gave the ball away reasonably frequently and looked half a yard off the pace he set on Saturday. Oakley 7 - Was very decent for an hour, then became one of our worst performers in the shaky spell at the end with too many instances of miscontrol and errant passes King 7.5 - Creative when the situation demanded, simple and unfussy the next. Dyer 7.5 - Thought he was involved in our best moves and showcased ability in tight spaces tonight rather than his ability to skin a defender Gallagher 7 - Some lovely crossfield passes and always available. Should have buried a first half sitter from Berners cross Waghorn 7 - Standard work rate and made their centre halves uncomfortable. Perhaps should have notched when through on goal and with the chance leading to Berners goal Subs: Howard 5 - Our play worsened after his introduction. Won precious little in the air and not mobile enough to exploit the spaces,

Guest Bilo Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Viva Solanooooooooo Viva Solanooooooooo Viva Solanooooooooo Absolutely immense at right-back, as was Berner was on the opposite flank. Ratings to be posted later.

Guest Posted 17 March 2010 Posted 17 March 2010 Weale 8 Solano 8 Hobbs 7.5 Morrison 7.5 Berner 8 MOTM Wellens 7 Oakley 7.5 King 7 Gallagher 7.5 Waghorn 7 Dyer 7 For everything he gives away in size and sometimes pace at right back, Nobby more than makes up for it with composure and his ability to read the game. Don't really understand the negative comments about Wellens, thought he had another decent game IMO, did his fair share of defensive duties aswell as helping set up a few nice attacking moves.

marbelladave Posted 18 March 2010 Posted 18 March 2010 So; A calm, measured performance taking all 3 points from Palace with the minimum of effort. Or; A slightly limp performance in a game we should have won by 2 or 3? Take your pick... Weale 7. A spectator for most of the first hour, really earned his money in the last quarter. Controlled his box better than earlier in the season and some decent saves towards the end. Solano 8. Not really tested but looked in total control, some decent work in the box and an excellent goal line clearance from one of Palaces few effective attacks. Good going forward, as expected, if he can do this against tougher opposition our right sided issues will be sorted, for this season at least! Morrison 7. Solid performance, maybe a little rusty after playing fullback so long. Content to play second fiddle to the excellent Hobbs, he was just a little over casual on a couple of occasions. Hobbs 8. Outstanding. Took control of the back 4 in a way that never happens when he plays with Brown, looked comfortable on the left side too, great for us if he can make that position his own. Distribution still needs some work but on occasion he brought the ball out of defense in a manner that was quite Hansonesque! Berner 8. Pretty much a standard performance for him, defends well, gets forward well, scores goals. On another day he could have had 2, whats not to like? Oakley 6.5. Decent enough first half, faded after the break. Generally quite effective without being really dominant. King 7. The usual. Quiet and unspectacular bur really effective in defense, good going forward too. let himself be pulled a little too deep in the last half hour, loses half a point for that. Wellens 6.5. Busy and involved for an hour, but as so often with him, nowhere near enough end product. Sat way too deep second half (under instructions?), conceding vast amounts of midfield to Palace's 10 men. Slightly disappointing overall. Gallagher 7. Still a slightly peripheral figure deployed on the right. Does the job defensively without ever looking really convincing in the tackle. Our most creative player around the box, he lacks the predator instinct inside it. For me he needs to up his work rate and get the gig as one of our 3 man midfield. Waghorn 7. Despite tons of effort and commitment he is not the man to lead the line. Much better supporting a central striker (from the right) where he can run the channels or create space by cutting inside on his left foot to attack the box, much as he did with Fryatt. Dyer 7. The joker in the pack! Sometimes frustrating, at times almost unplayable. Decent enough game without, as usual, enough end product. Howard 5. Brought on to win the ball in the air and hold up play. He managed neither, time to call it a day? N'Guessan and Adams Fresh legs to help see out time, no real effect on the game. Pearson 7 or 4. Depending which of the opening statement you prefer.
Cat Burger Posted 18 March 2010 Posted 18 March 2010 Floyd's ball to put Waggy through on goal - 10 Should have had himself an assist. Big time.

At the end of the day they won 1-0, reguardless of the fact that it could of been 2 or 3 that doesn't matter. Leicester havent won at palace in over 10 years and if they hadnt of had their 10 points taken away they would be right up our arse...so i think it was a great result despite some fans thinking it was a limp performance....
lcfc_jme Posted 18 March 2010 Posted 18 March 2010 For the first 55 minutes, I'll go with: Weale - 6 (not much to do) Solano - 7 (composed, didn't look out of place, big fan) Hobbs - 7 (heroic man-mountain) Hoof - 7 (not conforming to his nickname from my hazy memory) Berner - 7.5 (marauding left-back. Huge form, been awesome this season) Oakley - 7 (seemed to have the ball fairly often and don't remember him giving it away much. Got back defensively as well, and played in Lloyd for the goal) King - 6 (seriously can't remember anything of note..) Wellens - 6 (grafted defensively but from my memory didn't offer much going forward? Maybe improved in that capacity after 55 minutes.) Lloyd - 7 (full of running, played very well in offering an outlet. Scares people senseless when he attacks the space; should do it more often) Gally - 6 (see King) Waghorn - 7 (enjoys the physical side but is a danger on the ball as well. Would love him on a permanent but it's not likely) Overall: Competent first 55, was amazed with how much possession we had, especially away from home at a ground we're traditionally fairly poor on.

Sorry sir! Gave you a choice and it is clear what side you fall on, that's fair enough. Anyone who reads my posts know that I am always interested in our performance as well as the result so I make no apologies for that. I think we stepped off the pace after we scored and let 10 man Palace back into the game, whether that was a deliberate or not is open to interpretation. After a decent first half of the season Palace are in some disarray so It is not unreasonable to expect a City win, breaking the run was great but in the end it was a pretty close run thing. If we are seriously looking for promotion this season or next, we need to keep improving and put struggling teams like Palace and Wednesday away. I am always looking to the future and the club must keep improving, if not we start to go backwards, nothing stands still in football.
