Oakley the worst city captain I've ever seen

I am a big oakley fan and although it is clear that he isnt in the best form recently he still has quality, very rarely loses possession and has a very good footballing brain. It is obvious he is just the most recent scapegoat (mainly due to him applauding the fans of a team where he spent a long time at-obvously he isnt as fickle as some leicester fans). He has still got alot to offer the team, just because he doesnt make darting runs like dyer or score goals like waghorn it doesnt mean his not a good player. Hopefully he gets another chance to prove his quality again this season.

I think the Oakley bashing should be put to bed.

Every player comes to a point where they just are not the player they once were and that time has come for Oakley. Age has caught up with him and he can no longer produce to the level that he once could. Last year at a lower level he was ok and that is probably where he should finish his career, rather than carry on putting in inept performances for us and getting slated by his own supporters.

He came here at a bad time, helped us back up but this season in all honesty, he has been less help and more hindrance. The midfield has looked better in his absence and we have a captain in Brown that whilst he lacks in technical ability, makes up for it in heart and desire (which is what we've been asking for in a captain).

As an option on the bench I dont think he has any value, as if we are looking for a calm head to keep possession, Solano offers so much more, if we need an attacking threat, N'Guessen or Adams fill that role.

Thank you for last season Oaks but 'Come in number 8, your time is up'.

Totally agree with this.

He's not been able to step up his game this season, unlike King for example.

He's played fooking shit all season, any other players wouldn't get away with it.

I would say he's been consistently awful, and put him on par if not slightly worse than Neilson and McGivern.

And he's not a scapegoat he's simply been shit for the entire season, it's not like he's just been shit for these 4 defeats, it's the whole season.

He hasn't got away with it, his regular substitutions and more recent droppings from the team tell me he hasn't 'got away with it'.

Pretty much sums up everything really.

Given the fact that he lives in Nottingham, a move to Notts County where he can see out the remainder of his career wouldn't be bad for him at all.

In all fairness...he never said he had got away with it..

Matt Oakley can still do a job for Leicester City – Nigel Pearson

Thursday, April 22, 2010, 09:30Comment on this story<br style="line-height: 1.4em; ">

Nigel Pearson has told deposed captain Matt Oakley he still has a role to play in Leicester City's promotion challenge.

The City skipper has been on the bench for the last three games following the good form of Jay Spearing in midfield.

Defender Wayne Brown has led the side in his absence, but Pearson has challenged Oakley to follow the example of striker Steve Howard and force his way back into the side.

Howard had not started a game since the early part of January, but he came back into the side and scored three times in four games before his red card against Watford last Saturday ruled him out of the next three games.

Pearson is looking for a rejuvenated Oakley to make a similar impact when he returns to the starting line-up.

1x1.GIF"If you look at our squad, I think there is only Chris Weale who hasn't been left out at some point," said Pearson.

"Competition for places is very keen and I am sure when Matt is called upon again he will be ready. That is the important thing. There is competition for places so when you are in the side it is up to you to keep the shirt.

"It is not about showing me, it is a case of are they ready when they come back?

"I think Steve Howard is the perfect example of that. He has had a frustrating season and yet he found himself back in the side and was doing well."

Pearson's decision to extend striker James Vaughan's loan from Everton until the end of season was vindicated on two levels last Saturday.

Not only did the 21-year-old score his first goal for the club, Howard's red card and subsequent ban means the young striker is now set to partner Martyn Waghorn in attack and make his first start for the club at Preston on Saturday.

Pearson said his decision to ask Everton for an extension was designed to give him plenty of attacking options in the final fixtures of the season.

"He gives us a different option and I have my eye on the bigger picture," said the City boss.

"In terms of all the loan deals, we have agreements in place to use them all if our season is extended – but we have to get there first."

First of all nice to see the mercury getting their facts wrong AGAIN!

Oakley wasnt even on the bench Vs Watford

I think were going to see him returning to the starting line-up against Preston though, sounds like Wellens picked up a knock against watford and the only player we have who can fill that spot is Oakley. I think this reports been done to soften everybody up so Oakley dosnt get the same sort of reception McGivern got when he was back in the squad suddenly.

I'll be surprised if he's wearing the captains arm band though, Brown did a really good job last weekend.

Not now but that was posted before his recent droppings :P

Pearson must have been listening because he hasn't played since i made that post other than 5 minutes at P'Boro.

Isn't he injuried ?? I think thats why he wasn't on the bench against Watford .

Not sure, if that was why, but he's definitly out this weekend, had an injection in his ankle. Also Wellens looks doubtful.
