The Padster Posted 29 April 2010 Posted 29 April 2010 Martyn Waghorn predicts a bright future for Leicester City youngsters Young Player of the Year Martyn Waghorn believes the youthful talent assembled by Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson will be the mainstay of his team for years to come. The 20-year-old striker is believed to be the first loan player to win a City end-of-season award – it is also his first accolade. Waghorn is on loan from Sunderland until the end of the Championship play-offs. He says the likes of fellow award-winners Jack Hobbs and Andy King will ensure the club's future is in safe hands. Waghorn, who has scored 12 goals for City this season, said: "It's a great club and there's a lot of young talent here which means City will be rolling for a good few years. "We've had to cope with a lot of pressure this season but I think we've handled it well. I think we have matured during the season and to get in the play-offs after coming up from League One last season is fantastic." Waghorn, who was also nominated for the player of the year award won by Hobbs, said: "It's very pleasing to pick up an award but I want to congratulate Hobbsy and Kingy who have had a fantastic year, too. "There were a number of players who could have picked up the young player award so that's great for me from a personal point of view. "Now we've got one game left against Middlesbrough on Sunday and we want to finish on a high. "Then we've got three cup finals and I'm sure we can beat anyone on our day." LM

Hobbs signed permanent contract on the 24th April last year and the awards were on the 27th. So for once the Mockery got it's facts right.

Yeah, but presumably the votes were all cast before then, plus it'd have been decided on games he'd played whilst on loan...
