Disagree with that little bit, pretty sure Pen 1 was still away fans up until our 1st game in the Prem Vs Newcastle ??

away fans were in the joining corner of pen 1 - east stand

It really was a lot of fun, but the sort of irresponsible out of control fun where things can get messy. The main things I remember were a) the fire in the stand (it wasn't big, but it was a fire) what seemed like hundreds of coins pinging off the fence separating us from the away fans and the constant fear of having my youthful genitals crushed against one of those metal railings they used to have dotted around the terrace. Although nothing really bad happened that I remember, I often felt a sense that things were only just under control, so I'm not surprised that the powers that be wanted it changed.

There's no way in a million years that they'll ever let it be like that again, but I have some fond memories

ironnically enough, the only time i felt in imminent danger in whichever pen was in the corner, was AFTER they put in seats and they were being thrown like frisbys between the home and away fans.

and one other time vs Everton when i was sitting with my mate from the wirral, he didn't say a word, but i spoke to him and this bloke in front of me turned round and said 'oi, shut it scouser!', i guess i must have picked up a bit of his accent....

It wasn't east stand, Away fans had pen1of The Kop whilst pens 2, 3 and 4 were home fans. (Up until 94)

I always seem to remember them being on the corner for some reason

I stood in pens 2 and 3 from 91-94, i remeber the odd game where home fans would get Pen 1 if there wasnt much of an away following but mostly away fans. I remember Peschisolido equalising against us and running to the corner to the Brum fans who were going mental, think it was live on ITV.

Spreading stickers is about the quickest and cheapest marketing tool there is - used to do it all the time for my band.

Word of advice though - until the club have made their position 100% clear I probably wouldn't mention it (still do it) and certainly wouldn't be posting pictures

Yeah, cos nobody from the club is likely to be reading this thread. :ermm:

I know I've missed the boat when it comes to flag making and the recent news of poles not being allowed in the stadium puts a downer on things but here's one I made about a week ago.

Still needs some wording cos it looks a bit plain but yeah, it's something I suppose. :)

That looks immense mate!

Hopefully the club will realise Leicetser city fans arent as stupid as they think we are and will let us have flag poles soon!

Is anyone still taking their flags tomorrow for display purposes or to hold up even though we can't have poles to wave them. Want to take mine but will leave it for now if others are not bothering.

Posted

Yes, bring all your flags still, just so we can show barclay what we have been working on, how much time has gone into this. We'll lay them across the seats near us or if you want to, hold them up by hand.

This website dosent work tried a few times

i wont be bringing the flags i made because they arent big enough to drape over the seats and would be a bit akward to hold

but your flag will be fine to hold i think

I have contacted the Football Secretary at York City Football Club and he is ringing me in 10 minutes after i emailed him about advice regarding flags and banners. I also contacted half a dozen clubs, so i look forward to their responses. He is prepared to give us fans the legal and technical information we need to hopefully persuade the club to back the idea. I may ask him to ring up our club if he is willing to persuade them if necessary!

If only our club could act like York City as they are forward thinking and progressive who want to generate passionate, noisy and colourful support. Right here goes, Nick Bassett, the Football Secretary was very helpful. He is very prepared to speak to our club about the arrangements they have with the Yorvik Reds so i need a number or point of contact with a relevant person at The Walkers for him to give his advice on how to manage flags and banners. This is what information he gave:

a) Flags (including ones with poles of any length) and banners are NOT banned in the Football League ground regulations. There is NO law or health and safety argument.

b) It is not a requirement of the Football League for clubs to ask for fire safety certificates for flags and banners inside the stadium.

c) The Yorvik Reds have dialogue with the club each game on what they are going to bring and store it at the club so there are no surprises. They even allowed for 500 toilet rolls during a game with Luton. Open dialogue and discussion is needed so the club know what to expect. We might need to show the club all the flags and banners so they can see what they are getting and have regular meetings with them to manage the displays. The Yorvik Reds have an official presence within the club, we might need to ask the same and have a membership scheme to make it authentic.

d) The biggest flags (ones on telescopic carbon fibre polls) are only waved in the front row and no-man's land before and after the game. Smaller flags are allowed in all other sections. Banners can be held aloft wherever. There is a ban on flares as you would expect. Flags and banners used by the Yorvik Reds are only used in one section of the stadium. We need to officially request one section and later one stand for the idea to happen. The Kop is the best bet here so it appears non-provocative.

e) The Yorvik Reds have a designated area in the ground and have a certain number of tickets allocated to them in away games to maximise vocal support. It does help that they make up the majority of the away support though. We could ask for the same if there is official membership and if the club sees that there is a sizeable and active supporter group that attends a large proportion of games. Wembley even approached York about designating an area of the stadium for the Yorvik Reds in the play-off final and invited them to bring all their flags and banners to improve the matchday atmosphere! That just goes to show that there are no laws in place that state flags and banners of any size are a nuisance or may cause injury. York City's approach is if you do not like the flags and banners-sit somewhere else!!!

f) York City Football Club has an official singing section and this does not contravene a family club ethos. It works in tandem.

We just need a number now, i want Nick to speak to our club. He is a genuine football supporter who was amazed that the great Leicester City is trying to scupper the efforts of the guys who have gone to great length to create some atmosphere at the club. He even suggested that some of the club's ambassadors go to a York game to see how it works.

That is absolutly amazing

people like him are few and far between in football these days and i wish we had someone like him at our club

What we need to do before the first home League game is present all articles to the football club that we need to use and show them (with the relevant poles) what they need to be braced for. It would be best that the poles are plastic or carbon fibre-not wood. This would really help matters. Also we need to show them photographic evidence of what is happening at York, Aldershot, Palace and even Liverpool to show what can be created within the laws of the game. Rest assured, this will happen. Even York took persuasion and now the Yorvik Reds are an integral part of the club and readily embrace this style of support. Have faith people!

No suprise there at all. York have always been great with the fans and i have to admith that the playoff game vs Luton (500 toilet rolls) was probably the greatest atmospheres i have ever witnessed at a football game. They had two people on the pitch next to the Longhurst (home terraced area) with loud speakers starting chants before the game, the whole of the family stand were given red flags to wave, the longhurst was packed and had hundreds of flags, singing went on all game, toilet roll was chucked throughout onto the pitch and i managed to get a cameraman on the head from about 20 yards  , and the celebrations for the goal and at the end were mental. Wembley was good too but the weather didn't help with everybody getting drenched and losing.

If we ever get half the atmosphere i witnessed last night, it would be amazing to see at the Walkers.
