Live Aid 2

I watched all the way through (well, apart from flicking channels a few times when a band/singer I really couldn't stand came on).

I can't see how Dido is getting a lot of praise, I thought she was one of the worst acts (that said I really dislike Dido's music anyway so that might go someway towards explaining my feelings at that). You could tell the bands that were used to performing live a lot, Annie Lennox, Stereophonics, Travis (was quite surprised by them actually, but they got the crowd going), Robbie Williams and of course Paul McCartney definitely stood out to me as good performers. Madonna as well I suppose (grudgingly), although I didn't much like her interview afterwards, she struck me as quite up herself. From the other gigs I liked Green Day in Berlin.

Regardless of who was better and who wasn't, it was a great event and I really hope it did its job in making people realise what is going on. Sadly I still don't think that it is going to make the G8 make radical changes, it has raised the awareness of the public but I think that the 8 world leaders have probably pretty much decided already on what they'll change and what they won't. Debt will be mostly cancelled, aid will be increased slightly, trade laws will stay mostly the same.

It wasn't neccesserily how she sung her songs, For me personally it was the meaning and feeling of her songs, The songs Dido sung just seemed "right" and to me personally (Dunno whether anyone else felt this way) but her songs just seemed to have the right message yesterday.

Ricky Gervais = :thumbsup: :clap::thumbup: B)

Although I'm not a fan of hers but Miss Dynamite sung a pretty appropriate song.

What about Elton John and Pete Doherty? How bizarre was that?! Didn't help that Pete's mike didn't seem to be working properly either.

I was there yesturday had an absolutly amazing day, decided to stay in hyde park and watch the American Concerts because the last train home was 12:20 from liverpool street. and there was no way we were going to catch that one. I doubt very anything will come close to the buzz I was on all yesturday.

I started watching , soon got bored and turned it off. Just to add... who told Dido she could sing , Jesus she sounds like a cat being strangled :blink::huh:

Watched it all the way through and espite my expectations it was a historical and amazing day.

I thought The Killers, Paul McCartney, The Who and REM were outstanding and even though I don't normally like them Madonna, Snow Patrol, Travis and Razorlight also shone.

I think the event achieved all it could of ever achieved, it wil be something everyone remembers.

My Top Five Musical Highlights:

1 - McCartney doing Helter Skelter and The Long And Winding Road.

2 - Pink Floyd

3 - The Who

4 - REM

5 - Keane, just for the ever brilliant Something Only....

Not exactly representative of my musical tastes, but hey, they just went down well for me yesterday.

And the least best 5:

1 - Pete Doherty being a tw*t.

2 - Madonna giving it the effing and jeffing, and being a mardy cow afterwards.

3 - Velvet Revolver.... why?

4 - Killers - only one song and they didn't realy do it justice.

5 - Scissor Sisters, for shamelessly promoting a new song.

:nono::nono::thumbdown::nono::nono: i'd agree completly with that

i find it funny how a lot of bands go there saying they are all for the cause and then play some new tracks trying to promote future albums

not sure if anyone will agree with this but coldplay were one who did this, maybe i'm reading too much into it though.

I dont think Poverty will ever end.

If this was what everyone thinks what is the point in even trying to stop poverty?

Think positive, Trying is better than doing nothing, there are alot of determined people out there trying to stop poverty. If was can persuade the G8 to stop extreme poverty we can provide the effected countries with Money (People arguements are the money will go to waste)

Provide them with drugs that everybody deserves that way people can survive,

Give farmers a decent wage to live on, People are saying if the people in the effected countries are not prepared to work - Well? Whats the point? The famers in the effected countries don't get a decent wage because it is actually cheaper to import goods instead of selling home grown stuff.

If 30,000 people (Children) were died today we would do something to stop it, so it wouldn't happen again, We can't just stop 30,000 people dying in the effect countries just like that but we can certainly help it, we can certainly try and stop it from happening day after day...If farmers in England we're losing out on profit due to importation of goods just like in the effected countries, Our country would do something about we would make sure the farmers got a decent pay out - So why not in effected countries?!?

There are ways of stopping extreme poverty people just don't think or try hard enough - Maybe poverty will never go away, no-one knows hopefully it will but we can definetly stop certain aspects of poverty.

Nice rant but poverty will never end. There will always be millions suffering no matter what you do.

Thought Robbie Williams stole the show, really got the crowd going. The who were also excellent.

Determination! If people have enough will and determination THINGS will change for the better...As I said in my last bit at least if we can do something make things for people living in Poverty slightly better, slightly more bearable it'll be something good! Maybe Poverty will never end but we can do something, and i'd be happier if we do something rather than nothing.

No one has said we shouldn't do anything. I'm all for helping people, heck I even give a few quid to charity. Saying poverty will end is like saying we should end all wars though.... it aint gonna happen.

Highlights will be on BBC Three later tonight I think (Dunno whether you get BBC Three on NTL )

Mind you i'm wondering whether BBC Scotland are showing highlights because they seem to be fade some things and they just keep jumping from one act to another so i'm guessing it has been recorded or it is atleast a few minutes behing the real thing.

Quotes from Tony Blair press conference during the G8 Summit;

The PM said a 'common purpose' now existed between the leaders on tackling climate change, with clean energy to be promoted.

All the G8 leaders agreed climate change was happening and 'that human activity is contributing to it, and that it could affect every part of the globe.'

Extra resources would be provided for Africa's peacekeeping forces to prevent conflict, he said, with 'enhanced support' to fight corruption.

Action would also be taken to improve health and education across the continent, with more help to tackle HIV/AIDS and stimulate trade and growth.

Progress had also been made on the Middle East peace process, he said.

Earlier Mr Blair said the agreements reached during the summit 'would not change the world tomorrow - it is a beginning not an end.' But he felt 'siginifcant progress' had been made on the major issues.

This is only the beginning off the summit, this is only the beginning of this arguement, and I am very happy about there plans so far, the question asked is will it actually happen? On Sky News today he was saying about aid only being made availiable to the right people how will this be put into action? But at least the fight to help out has started!
