Player Ratings for Sunderland match ?

Weale - 5.5 - We all know what this guy can do, looked shakey today though.

Lamey - 7 - Really impressed me actually, he's nothing spectacular but he does what is needed, looked comfortable on the ball and tries to get forward as much as possible. Sign him up!

Morrison - 6 - Big fan of his, got caught out of position quite a few times today though, I prefer him at right back in all honesty, where he can express himself more in the game by having more time on the ball.

Hobbs - 6.5 - Made some good runs forward with the ball, was ok.

Berner - 7.5 - Good performance from Bruno, as ever. Loved the massive smile when he came over to take a throw and th crowd were chanting his name. Solid.

N'Guessan - 7.5 - Yes he can drift in and out of games but when he's in a game, we all know about it! Made some good runs and linked up well with others, always looking to take on his man was a threat throughout.

Oakley - 7 - Surprised me today, much improved after last season. Some good vision aswell. Keep it up.

King - 7 - Well taken goal, looks as though this new approach will benefit him, along with Oakley.

Dyer - 6.5 - Kept out wide well and looked lively at times.

Campbell - 9 - What a performance, we need to keep this guy. Me and my mate were speechless after one move where he did a few kick ups, flicked it over his and a number of Sunderland players' heads before getting onto the end of it and volleying just wide. If he plays like that all season then we have quite some player on our hands. Didn't look unhappy in anyway either, which is pleasing.

CBA with subs.

Overall, a very encouraging performance, I was surprised about Wellens being benched as he's one of our better players, aswell as Gallagher. Once we have these two in the team we could be a real threat. Up the city!

Sums up my thoughts, very enjoyable game and definitely worth it for a tenner. On a sidenote, can see lots of fans getting on my tits this season. Our goal came from a passing move that started with Weale and a few backpasses which were greeted with moans and groans. Patience is required, and I think it will be these fans who struggle to adapt to the new style more than the players!

you seem to have forgot Fryatt , would give him a 7 , claassy pass for the King goal

Weale - 6 - Would have been higher if it wasn't for dodgy goal, saved our ass a few times first half from dodgy defending

Lamey - 7 - Looked good, confident and got forward.

Morrison - 6 - exposed a few times, though generally OK

Hobbs - 5.5 - Not his best day, got skinned a few times. Won his headers well

Berner - 6.5 - Typical reliable Berner, nothing special but solid

Danny N - 8.5 - Class act, worried Sunderland, strong, quick and creates time on the ball for himself

King - 6.5 - Competed well in MF but still to defensive for the more 'forward' of our midfielders. Some creative balls

Oakley - 5 - Needs to get stuck in and learn which way he's shooting

Dyer - 6.5 - Some promising signs and some excellent runs

Fryatt - 6 - Was absent for most of the game but looked good when he had the ball

Campbell - 9 - Oozed confidence and took the piss out of their defence. Looked like he was playing for the wrong team today

I didn't think much of fryatt today, looked a bit uninterested, thought DJ was class, he looks much sharper than anyone else. That 'Gazza vs Scottland' type effort he had in the 1st half was awesome, Dj will pay a big part this season

Agree with Lamey's 7, looked assured on the ball, maybe out of position for the 1st goal but yeah sign him up, push Neilson back across the boarder.

Re - Wealo, looked shakey against Rotherham, should have been sent off to be honest, maybe twice! Don't quite know what's going on there. He's misjudging the ball in-flight, did Sunderlands 2nd get deflection or did he see it late?

Good point - and from someone who's sig still refers to Nigel Pearson. That adapting is a bugger, isn't it?

Yep, only took a minute before the first grumble of complaint was heard in my area of the stand.

The OS refers to it as having been a "deflected shot" but from the other end of the ground it looked like it was only Weale that it deflected off. It did come through a bit of a crowd though, and having seen it on the replay I'm not so sure any more. Maybe it did flick off someone on the way through.

I thought it was deflected. Still should've been saved however.

Weale - 5.5 - Just looked hlaf the keeper he was before the summer. Came rushing out needlessly, and then looked like he should have done better with the second goal. But hey, it is only pre-season better to mae these mistakes now

Lamey - 7 - Only one game, but he looked decent to me. Comfortable in all areas, and is a bit more mobile than Neilson. Hope we sign him.

Morrison - 6.5 - Him and Hobbs were ok, though seemed to get caught out by the long ball which is suprisng.

Hobbs - 6.5 - ok, but similar to Morrison.

Berner - 7 - Looked a bit slow at times but still his genral solid self.

N'Guessan - 7.5 - Yes he can drift in and out of games but when he's in a game, we all know about it! Made some good runs and linked up well with others, always looking to take on his man was a threat throughout.

Oakley - 7 - Very good performance, Wellens might struggle to displace him on that show.

King - 7 - Solid game, with a well taken goal.

Dyer - 6.5 - OK, dont know why he is on the right though.

Campbell - 8 - Good showing, unlucky not to score as he deserved to.

Fryatt - 7 - Ok game, never looked too threatening though.

Weale - 5. Horrible performance, so, so shaky.

Right-back, whoever the fck he was - 8. Solid defensively, got forward at every opportunity and looked very comfortable when called into action. Good player.

Morrison - 6. Largely decent but caught out too often by the ball over the top. Worrying considering that is the Championship in a nutshell.

Hobbs - 6. As with Morrison, shaky with the long-ball, but good reading of the game and hard to beat when the ball was on the floor.

Berner - 6. Seemed to struggle quite a bit today, caught out of position a lot and seemed quite off the pace.

N'Guessan - 6. Huge frame, intimidating and all, but does not use his size, power or pace to his advantage. Seems reluctant to run at his man more often than not and shy'd away from a couple of important defensive headers. Would be SO much more dangerous if he decided to run at his man constantly.

Oakley - 6.5. Tackled well, supported on occasion but looked extremely slow. Would've done well against a Championship midfield but would definitely need replacing before the end of the season.

King - 7 - Missed his goal but by all accounts he scored and wasn't really bypassed in many of our decent attacks.

Dyer - 6. Should play on the left where he's comfortable and be given license to take his full-back on instead of being made to slow the play down.

Campbell - 8. No idea where the fck he learned to take a set-piece, or how to stay onside, but he looked a real handful. Sharp, pacey, great touch and an eye for goal. Don't expect him to be here for much, if any, of our campaign but he could be a real asset if he is and stays fit. Good performance from the LAD.

Fryatt - 6.5. Few moments of brilliance, but drifted in and out of the game and didn't really look like our "main goalscorer" or goal-threat that we expect him to be.

Can't be arsed typing out ratings for substitutes seeing as I didn't enjoy a lot of the second half and I've had a few jars since the game. But whatevs. Peace x

Same here, I actually turned to the bloke behind me and said our goal will come from passing it around patiently, turned around once we had scored and he wasnt moaning then!

Was impressed with N'Guessan and (to a relative degree) Oakley yesterday. Much improved having been put back in the middle to hold. I still would rather not see him as first choice and I do appreciate it's only a friendly but it's nice to know we may have a bit of extra depth there after all - I thought he was dire last season.

Thought N'Guessan looked one of the better attackers on the field. Really gave them a scare, we look good with two actual wingers and I'm a fan of the swapping.
