Guest Bilo Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Yes, I know. Another new thread. But I'm trying to make this one a wee bit simpler in the style of Roo Fox's World Cup thread. Who's going to win and why? Middlesbrough have signed well and will be effective this season. Kris Boyd could be a huge signing at this level. Who's going up with them? Reading had a sterling end to last season and have the talent to do well. QPR could also do well if they've finally got a bit of stability.Teams that were in and around the play-offs, including Leicester, could also find themselves well within a shout. Leicester in particular have been playing some very good stuff in pre-season under Sousa. Who's your Roughie? Aidy Boothroyd won't make Coventry pretty, but he could make them effective after doing a similar job at Watford. A different approach at Doncaster has seen them do well and could again, and Ipswich could surprise a few this year alongside Leeds who have signed well in Billy Paynter and have excellent support. Top team that will struggle? While Forest have a young team that is set to improve after a creditable first season, a lack of new blood and question marks over Davies' relationship with the board make them difficult to back, as well as away form that saw them win just 4 games, less than relegated Plymouth. Cardiff's investors seem to have done little to allay their financial worries, and Chopra has made his desire to leave clear with Ledley already gone and Whittingham likely to follow. Golden Boot Winner? Kris Boyd is the obvious choice and Earnshaw will always rattle them away for Forest. If DJ Campbell stays, he could also be a reasonable outside bet on his end-of-season form at Blackpool and pre-season form here. Who faces relegation? Scunthorpe are punching above their weight just being in this division and the loss of influential players is likely to hurt. Portsmouth are a car crash of a football club right now and anything could happen there and finances are little better at Watford.
Asha Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Who's going to win and why? Nottingham Forest. Because they're part of my 'league winners' accumulator. Seriously though, I think they'll be well short. Middlesbrough or Burnley look like the favourites. Who's going up with them? I think Middlesbrough and Burnley will go up automatically and the play-offs are a lottery. I just hope Leicester will be in them. If we can just push into the play-offs, we've got every chance of learning from our mistakes and pushing for the premiership. Who's your Roughie? I think Norwich could well be in the play-offs too. Like us, they romped to the League One title and will be riding that high into the championship. Top team that will struggle? In the championship, I don't think there are many 'top teams'. Hull and Portsmouth will both really struggle in my opinion, and I think Portsmouth will do well to avoid relegation. Golden Boot Winner? David Nugent. Has scored goals for fun at this level before, can see him doing the same this season. Who faces relegation? I think Barnsley, Coventry and Portsmouth will go. Barnsley have got lucky on a couple of occasions to avoid the drop late on in a season, Coventry have been getting progressively worse for ages, and Portsmouth as I mentioned will really struggle for me.
Samilktray Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Who's going to win and why? Bristol City Who's going up with them? Fancy Leeds for some reason Who's your Roughie? Norwich and Millwall Top team that will struggle? Cardiff Golden Boot Winner? Nicky Maynard Who faces relegation? Anyone 3 out of, Scunny, Barnsley, Cov, Watford, Pompey.
C-man Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Who's going to win and why? Middlesbrough have the most resources to do so and I expect them to win it comfortably. Who's going up with them? Two of Forest, Cardiff, Ipswich and Hull. Who's your Roughie? Portsmouth are expected to fall further into the mire but I think they'll make the play-offs. Bristol City won't be too far away if James and Maynard stay for the whole season. Think Leeds and Norwich and Reading will complete the top 10. Top team that will struggle? In the absence of any real 'top' team, I think Burnley will do the worst out of the three relegated clubs and Sheffield United seem to like operating on a threadbare squad and as a result will fall below expectations. Golden Boot Winner? Boyd. Who faces relegation? S****horpe, Barnsley and Doncaster. Bad year for Yorkshire.
Joe. Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Who's going to win and why? Nottingham Forest. Whilst Middlesbrough and Burnley are going in as favourites at the moment, if Forest can add a couple of the players they've been strongly linked with then they'll be right up there. Not retaining Shorey is the biggest loss for them so far, but with their current squad they've got some extremely capable players. Lee Camp has demonstrated himself to be a top goalkeeper, Wes Morgan is a rock at the back, and with Robert Earnshaw they have a true Championship goalscorer. Who's going up with them? I think Middlesbrough and Burnley will be in and around the top brass at the end of it all. Who's your Roughie? Can you get a Championship roughie? It's pretty much anyone's this year, but I think Reading will do very well for themselves. Play-offs. Top team that will struggle? Difficult at this stage, but Portsmouth have lost so many players they might struggle. Golden Boot Winner? Robert Earnshaw. One of the most proven goal-scorers the second tier has perhaps ever seen, and with a good side around him once again I think he'll do the business. Elsewhere Kris Boyd should give him a pretty good run for his money. Who faces relegation? S****horpe are going to struggle massively after losing Hooper and Hayes. A huge chunk of goals came from those pair, and losing them will be a big blow for them. The rest are much of a muchness for me, although I think ultimately Barnsley will be down there eventually. Really is difficult to call, but I think Portsmouth with struggle bigtime.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Who's going to win and why? No Idea. Could be one of a few teams. Who's going up with them? Fancy a few teams to be up there, Burnley, Boro, Ipswich, Sheff U, Leicester, Norwich Who's your Roughie? Preston. Ferguson could get them going well and they have some big physical players. Top team that will struggle? Cardiff. Not necessarily struggle, but wont hit the heights of last season. Golden Boot Winner? Grant Holt Who faces relegation? Scunny, Barnsley, Millwall.
Tilley Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Who's going to win and why? Bristol City. Steve Coppell in charge, he did a brilliant job at Reading and with David James in between the sticks and Maynard banging the goals in, they'll be right up there. Who's going up with them? Reading, Brian McDermott completely turned them around last season and they were unlucky not to sneak into the play offs and they have some very good players in Shane Long, Noel Hunt, Brian Howard and Ingimarsson, I think they'll take the second automatic promotion spot. As for the play-offs, who knows? I'll say us if we can get in a right back, keep hold of DJ and add one or two. Who's your Roughie? Norwich are going to be the most successful of the three promoted teams, I expect them to grab a play-off spot. Top team that will struggle? Burnley, they have Brian Laws in charge for Christ sake. Golden Boot Winner? DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEJ Who faces relegation? As Joe said, after losing Hooper and Hayes, S****horpe will struggle. To go down with them I'll say Watford and Barnsley. Pompey could be an outside bet.
Libertine Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Bristol will finish around the play offs I think. Still don't rate their squad as a Championship winning side, even with Coppell in charge.
Flynny Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Who's going to win and why? Middlesbrough have the most resources to do so and I expect them to win it comfortably. Who's going up with them? Two of Forest, Cardiff, Ipswich and Hull. Who's your Roughie? Portsmouth are expected to fall further into the mire but I think they'll make the play-offs. Golden Boot Winner? Boyd. Who faces relegation? S****horpe, Barnsley and Doncaster. Bad year for Yorkshire. Doncaster!? What?
Corky Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Who's going to win and why? Bristol City. Steve Coppell is a very astute manager and will do similar to what he did at Reading. Who's going up with them? Any two of many. Forest, Cardiff, Middlesbrough, ourselves, QPR, Sheffield United, Reading could all be in with a shout. Norwich as well. Who's your Roughie? Millwall will use the Den to good effect and be near the top six. Top team that will struggle? Hull, Nigel has walked into a tough job and could well be nowhere near promotion. Not a top team but Ipswich could be similar to last year, not enough wins, too many draws. Golden Boot Winner? Nicky Maynard. Who faces relegation? Coventry have been fighting it for years and I believe they will do so again, Scunthorpe, Barnsley, Watford and possibly our friends at Pride Park.
Jfox Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 Who's going to win and why? Reading - They will continue the form the ended in last season. Who's going up with them? Any two of many. Forest, Leeds, Middlesbrough, Burnley, Leicester or QPR. Who's your Roughie? Millwall. Top team that will struggle? Swansea - Brendan Rodgers isn't good enough. Golden Boot Winner? Shane Long Who faces relegation? Watford, S****horpe, Barnsley, Millwall, Preston and maybe Palace.
Super_horns Posted 2 August 2010 Posted 2 August 2010 We'll probably go down unless teams like Pompey and Hull go into administration (or worse...which I wouldn't want to happen) Good luck to you guys...reckon you'll be close to the play-offs again.
