AyewJoking Posted 12 August 2010 Posted 12 August 2010 Pointless bloody friendly but we came out of it ok and avoided an embarrassing draw/defeat. Walcott was better than usual but without his pace I doubt the guy would be a regular for even the likes of Leicester! Lampard was anonymous, probably just glad to not pick up a knock. Zamora - one cap wonder? Two superb goals by Gerrard, like Zidane he gets better with age
purpleronnie Posted 12 August 2010 Posted 12 August 2010 So do people still want gerrard and lampard to play together? I think lampard is a great player but he doesnt fit with the squad and formation.
purpleronnie Posted 12 August 2010 Posted 12 August 2010 You're wrong regarding the formation (in my opinion anyway), we played 4-4-2 from the 45th minute until the 66th minute (when Rooney came off). The goals came just after this period when having just the one up front instantly released Gerrard to be more attacking. I never watched it I was going by online reports, looks like those reports were wrong then. Most reports I've read have said how shakey our defence looked, are they true?
marbelladave Posted 12 August 2010 Posted 12 August 2010 I never watched it I was going by online reports, looks like those reports were wrong then. Most reports I've read have said how shakey our defence looked, are they true? Sort of... Hart was solid, rarely stretched, Johnson was err... Johnson, still can't defend. Jagielka was decent, carried Dawson second half, Terry was better back on the left and Cashley never broke sweat. Lampard and Barry in front of them were largely ineffective, looks like Barry's decline is terminal. Second half, Dawson had a severe attack of 'the Hobbs' and was jittery throughout, Gibbs looks an absolute natural, not really tested though.
Jon the Hat Posted 12 August 2010 Posted 12 August 2010 Good: Hart - make him number one with Green and Foster as Backup. Gibbs - class act looks very ood for the future. Gerrard - showed AGAIN that he must be played in the right position. Cole - looked fine as usual. Bad: Rooney. Why? Lampard. Bench him unless Gerrard is not playing,. Barry. Please drop him until he is on fire.
Webbo Posted 12 August 2010 Posted 12 August 2010 I've retired from supporting England. I didn't realise you had started.
dandannieldanok Posted 12 August 2010 Posted 12 August 2010 Bad: Rooney. Why? Lampard. Bench him unless Gerrard is not playing,. Barry. Please drop him until he is on fire. Agreed. Even though I'm a staunch supporter of Lampard, I think it's time his international career was put to bed now. Same goes for Barry, apart from the me supporting him bit. He's been trading off the back of one decent season at Villa for too long now. And it says a lot about Rooney when he's outshone by Bobby Zamora within 10 minutes of the guy getting on the pitch. I don't think a bit of time out from England will do Rooney any harm at all.
Edmund Posted 12 August 2010 Posted 12 August 2010 Keep these retirements coming... Gerrard and Terry next please! Totally agree. Two strikes against a dire third rate Hungary team and all of a sudden everyone thinks he's the best thing that's happened to England. Where were the strikes when it mattered? The fact is these players obviously have talent but can't perform when it really matters so what's to say Gerrard isn't going to flop in the European championship? One poxy result means fuck all. Drop the lot of the class of 2010 and play players that would die to wear the jersey. The fickleness of football fans was on it's finest display last night. Gerrard was being booed along with the rest all night, scores and now is the national hero You've got to love England fans.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 12 August 2010 Posted 12 August 2010 I keep seeing people saying we played better with 4-4-2 at the end of the match.. this isn't the case. I was there and quite high up and it was clear the formation was 4-2-3-1 Hart Johnson - Jagielka - Dawson - GibbsMilner - BarryJohnson - Gerrard - YoungZamora
