Coventry City Away Post Match Thread

Tbf. even if we DID leave their 'wingers' (though in a 5-5-0 formation, I'm not sure 'wingers' is an appropriate term) free, they were never going to do anything against us yesterday.

Apart from provide a cross for their goal.

I'm sorry but I've got to disagree. We did create as many chances during our relegation season, that 'orrible night at home to Bristol City mentioned elsewhere on this thread was a classic example. Similarly, the use of superlatives such as 'awesome' and those others you quote to describe us currently is just deluded, we've failed to beat, or been beaten by, some piss poor teams this season.

I'm not 'panicking' as of yet. You're right, it's too early. However, we're a poor, poor shadow of the team that went to Cardiff that night in May. I'm in full support of Sousa and I'm avidly against giving manager's the chop early on. I really hope he turns it round. I'm just struggling to find any positives. The man who stated ''I hate football'' elsewhere on this thread seems to sum my exasperation up perfectly.

OK, on the first point we'll agree to disagree, you cite one game, but my overwhelming memory is frustration at simply not creating chances.

But you clearly are someone who lives and dies by making meaningless and irrelevant comparisons - the Cardiff game was the culmination of two seasons of teamwork and following a very simple unimaginative gameplan, in a match where everything was at stake. The team that played saturday are at the start of a very different journey, having a bit of a bad run, with plenty of time to adapt and adjust to a new system. Totally different, aren't they, so why would you expect the latter to be anything less than inferior... Oh, and for the record, we did actually lose against cardiff...

With regard to being someone who lives and dies by making meaningless and irrelevant comparisons, that's a bit of an offensive assumption to make ain't it, especially with limited evidence? Doesn't really dignify your point in any way either, and we didn't lose to Cardiff that night.

We ended last season with some fantastic performances, and with largely the same squad we've started this one poorly. I can't see why I'd expect the side to be inferior as they are.

Either way, I hope you're optimism's not misplaced, and I hope Sousa does turn it round.

The football we played on Saturday was sublime at times but without a killer instinct we are going to struggle. It is all well and good playing the way we do, but if you cannot bury your chances then you aren't going to win matches, especially when your defence and goalkeeper are looking less than solid.

I have abused Sousa this season for not getting us prepared from the off and he's still not mastered how to get us over the winning line. We have taken the lead once this season in all competitions and that's a massive worry.

If he can use his attractive philosphy to get us winning, then i'll apologise for my negativity but the longer we go without a win in the league, the more pressure we are going to be under and players who are learning a new style of play will panic and revert to their comfort zone but with a lack of confidence too, that won't bring a positive outcome.

We are crying out for some more pace throughout the team. Waghorn has bought us some more energy, but what I would do for a Mark Davies to join the attack with King. Then we might get a few wins and who knows what could happen.

Fryatt looked fooked on Saturday, worrying. The Fryatt of the Allen/Megson/Holloway era. A new striker is still needed.

Our set pieces are riling me as well, we are getting so many corners and not utilising any of them. It's piss poor.

Cardiff will be a test on Tuesday but let's hope Paulo sticks with the Pearson team who have revenge to dish out.

My optimism levels of seeing a win under Sousa in the league have gone from 0% to 25% it's onwards and upwards.

Come on you Blue Boys.

Well done Paulo for using the last 2 weeks to re-group and show you're not stubborn by picking King and Morrison. Now ring up Fergie and get that Portuguese lad on loan who they paid £7 million for.

I just re-read some of my posts from Saturday night.

I was a little OTT. Sousa does not need to go now, that was ridiculous. And I didn't actually go to the game on Sat and the more I read of it, the more it sounds like we were grossly unlucky.

Plus, Sousa has addressed many of my major concerns - selling Campbell and re-instating Fryatt and King for starters. I really don't know why I was so down on it at the time.

As I said though, 2 tough home games coming up - are people still going to be as forgiving if we have 2 points from our first 7 games?

Anyway, consider this a partial retraction.

Why can't people see Sousa's taking us backwards? We didn't go 5 games without a win at any stage last season and we've done it in the first 5 games this season.

Sousa needs to go NOW. Every game he's not sacked is another game we're wasting time and points. It's not nice football if we don't win.

People need to take their heads out of the sand.

He can't literally kick the ball into the net. Obviously he's accountable for some of our bad start, but when you're missing out on points because of missed chances there's only so much you can be blamed for things.

Agreed but he is responsible for coaching. Last year we were scoring more goals from (supposedly) less chances.

(a) I acknowledged I was wrong further up the thread, but congratulations.

(b) I'm offering an opinion. It's based on reason rather than a hunch that things wil change for the better. You don't get bad luck 5 games running. I'll be the first to admit I'm wrong if we start to do well.

Leftsideoverhere makes some good points about last season. We did overperform and that game against reading was a travesty. But I also remember other games like scunny away and Coventry at home, both to a lesser extent, where we should have taken 3 points ourselves.

I'm just very concerned that it's September, we're 11 points off the pace and we've got QPR and Cardiff next.

If we still have 2 or 3 points in a week's time are people still going to be happy that we're winning the possession battle?

Its a conspiracy... but, im tipping a 4-0 thumping of Cardiff to make the naysayers smile
