Unabomber Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 When Robbie Neilson has a better passing ability, then every single player on your team you know you are shit. Cov were as horrific as we were good, they literally would just smash the ball out or if they were lucky if would end up on the head of Hobbs or Morrison. It was a shocking result when you consider how good the performance was, but I have faith that if we can play like that regularly and put Waggy up front and bring Gally in for Fryatt we will do well and finally get some wins.
Kilworthfox Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 we have 2 points out of 15 , we cant win a game we dominated , we are in relegation form and people are happy ? ok. if i had known that this season was a transition year and not a real push for promotion after reaching the play-offs and being unlucky , i wouldn't have bought my season ticket. i just expected a real go for promotion not talking about 2points out of 15 and being happy . sorry lads and lasses thats just how it is for me . please dont insult me by saying we could still go up as we all know that isn't going to happen as sousa has already admitted this . Have I missed something?
body102 Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 Just got back from Chaventry , thought we played some really good stuff . Coventry are just a hoof team . I just wish N'Guessen would have wellied it in the last minute instead of fannyiing about . Once we start scoring someone is gonna get hammered , hopefully Cardiff on tuesday
Lillehamring Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 With a win under there belt and 2 points more than us....Hilarious. hardly hilarious. 2 points is nothing, and their win came against sheff u, who have only scored 3 themselves. we put out a side that was playing in L1, they've not long been down from the prem. i'm sure if you spoke to boro fan, they're probably a lot more worried than most city fans are. i mean, we complain that we can't score, yet we've scored twice as many as they have. we are a work in progress, they are potentially the next southampton, charlton or leicester.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 Just got back. Coventry were piss poor. We should have won. We should have had a 1st half peno, stone waller, Waggy hit the post, N'guessan should have finished it in the 90th. Just wasn't gonna be our day. Pretty impressed with their fans when they went 1-0 up. In contrast, a stupid amount of cvnts offering to fight me n my mates after the game Seen Gally and Wellens after the game, shouted them from about 100 metres away, they gave the thumbs up but didnt look too impressed
easilee Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 Still stick by my don't worry til Christmas vibe but Matty is seriously testing my loyalty. It's looking more and more like he's a league 1/Championship player at very best. Not been counting but it feels like 2 out of every 10 one on ones he converts, and has done since he came here. Shlt for a striker. His offside offences seem a bit better but not much. Too many niggling little points to mention that i feel have not changed within our team. Do we even practice set pieces of any sort? Still, we didn't lose and it seems that once everyone gets used to each other we will have a formidable team, but for fook's sake Matty sort it out or i will be calling for your dismisall with the rest of the kids.

If you bought a season ticket on the basis that we HAD to be challenging for the playoffs, you're a massive idiot. You buy a ticket to support the team, regardless of what we're aiming for. If we were in the Prem, battling to stay up, don't tell me you wouldn't have been the first glory hunter in line for a season ticket. This IS a transition year, get used to it. Sousa is getting us playing football that we'll be able to take in to the Prem, if and when we get promoted. We wouldn't last a second playing the football Pearson had us playing, its really that simple. If you don't want to support the team in this slightly tougher season, fine, I know we'll see you back when we get promoted, ****.
MC Prussian Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 On M69 on the way home. Feels like a defeat after hammering on their penalty area all game and only coming away with a point. The Ricoh really is a dive. Half-full at best, with only a tiny number of home fans making any noise, and most of that was directed at us, not at the game. Although it did sound in the second half as though they were singing "we took one shot, and that's enough". Waiting to meet up with our family to come home we met a cov fan who took three goes before we understood he was saying 'have a good trip back' and watch four drunk cov fans try to pull a leicester fan out of a taxi while it was moving. Nice! The football was mostly depressing, I thought. We bossed it completely but lacked confidence. So there wasn't enough pace in our passing, and too many of our shots on target were weak. But we should have had at least one penalty, and their goal came from their only shot on target which was directly the result of the referee confusing football with sumo wrestling and allowing cov to strip the ball away from a leicester attack without any regard for the rules of the game. Sometimes snatching an equaliser feels like a win, but right now I'm pissed off that they're even allowed to have a football team in that awful stadium never mind that we let them take the lead and take a point. I don't want to be in the 'win at all costs' camp. I do appreciate that we're passing the ball more, and I like what Sousa is trying to do. But I seriously want to see us put some of the crap sides around us in the championship to the sword, and given they way cov played today it would have been a mercy killing to put six or seven past them. As for the team, that line up today worked well. Neilson looks five yards faster tracking back, Bruno was closer to his usual standard, Hobbs and Morro looked solid except for the solitary Cov chance, and the midfield worked well as a unit, with Lloyd, Wellens and King all adding to the strike force. I wish we could play the passes into the spaces for colleagues to run into, but at least today most passes went to feet, and not to the three yards behind the intended target. Gallagher looked good when he came on, Howard and N'Guessan less so, but they were up against a team who knew they were lucky to be level and were determined to keep 11 behind the ball. It's coming, and when it does, someone is going to get hammered. I think that's a pretty honest assessment and I'd sign this any minute (as of right now). Been to the match myself and the pieces seem to come together. Whereas a couple of weeks ago, the whole team seemed to have gone amiss and lacking encouragement, today it all almost clicked - if it hadn't been for the inability of our squad to combine midfield play with setting up the strikers, in particular in the first half. We totally dominated Coventry with our passing game & ball possession in the highs of 70 percent (that's a subjective view, though). They had no chance going forward and didn't find a way out of their own half for 40 odd minutes. It could've been our dominance or the lack of quality in the Coventry squad, who knows...? The Leicester squad, however, seemed to be light-hearted before kick-off and I'd claim the massive support from our stands must've helped to a certain extent, too. Or maybe it was the absence of a certain Moreno in the middle of defense...? Hopefully, these rather positive indications will result in us giving Cardiff a good game next Tuesday. It's got to pay off at one point.
Lillehamring Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 on a brighter note 6 out of the 8 teams directly above us (not counting preston) lost today. so, we have picked up a point on these teams, and 4 of the teams that lost, lost by 2 or more goals. given the apparent quality of the performance today, it sounds like there are plenty of other teams struggling
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 Good performance but it really was 2 points lost. We dominated from start to finish, with them actually doing nothing but score the goal. For me Sousa got the team wrong, Waghorn on the wing in what was a 4-5-1 most of the time, just didnt work. Fryatt was fooking awful, greedy as usual and seems to get slower and slower everytime I see him. On the hour changes were needed, Fryatt was being out muscled up front and that was the time to bring Howard on not ten minutes before the end. And why do everytime Hobbs and Morrison play together at CB, do we concede soft goals? Despite being big blokes, they both were struggling to contain Platt who just out jumped them to score. Relieved we got a point though it really was deserved at the minimum, but should have had three if it wasnt for lack of shooting, poor decision making and at times looking like only wanted to walk it in. Need a win vs Cardiff now and this result will look fairly decent.
Cal Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 Just got back in. Thought we played some really good football, especially in the first half. Neat passes and kept it on the ground, bit too fancy for the Championship if anything. Waghorn had a decent second debut, albeit out of position. Dyer, Berner and King were my star performers today, all three looked solid and didnt stop trying. Fryatt didnt look bothered 95% of the time, definitely needs dropping. Our support was fantastic, I dont know how many of us there was exactly gottas be around 4500? Feel sorry for the Coventry fans, their team is absolutely awful.

Not having a go just a bit peeved.
VampLCFC Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 We looked very good in the middle of the park today, passing and movement was superb, just lacking the ruthlessness in front of goal, defence would maybe struggle a bit against more attacking teams, Coventry were pretty terrible, its almost embarrassing to only get a point out of today!!
Joe. Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 I didn't go but from what I've read and heard it sounds like we were unfortunate not to get all three points. It's the same old story again really, lack of clinical nous in front of goal costing us dearly again. I thought it would be important to win today given that our next two matches are against Cardiff and QPR, but as we know anything can (and will) happen. I really think we need this first win under our belts to get a bit of confidence back, because right now it doesn't seem as though we're actually playing that horrifically. How did Morrison fare by the way? Nice to see him back in the picture.

I thought he looked a bit unsure / nervous / rusty although it's difficult to be sure because he had hardly anything to do He's hardly going to feel confident having been in and out of the team and knowing that Zayatte is about to replace him.
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 It's one of those scenarios where one team we play soon is going to get an utter thrashing if we also take some of 'lady luck' into account. Hopefully it will be Cardiff !!
lcfc_jme Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 Sounds like it was a thoroughly impressive performance by all accounts, and if we can get a little more energy in the middle (Abe?) with more creativity going forward (Gally?) and be more clinical up top ("match fit" Waggy?) then we will definitely be just fine. Swansea didn't start particularly well themselves last season (2 wins in their first 10 league games I think) and were pipped to the playoffs on the final day. We weren't expected to beat a QPR team that were flying last season and we did, so fingers crossed we get a repeat.
STUHILL Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 All this negative talk of Fryatt, me included, perhaps we should be looking at bringing in a striker on loan. Someone who isn't starting games in the Prem maybe?? We need someone who is going to be more effective than Howard and Fryatt. I would give Fryatt some more game time, but after todays performance, he isn't doing himself any favours.

Personally I think we should all lay off Fryatt, on his day he is 1 of the best in the division, he has not had much game time same with Waghorn & almost every player needs 3/4 games consistent to regain their match fitness. I did not think either Fryatt or Waghorn played anything like they could but I unfortuneately have seen far far worse displays in a city shirt.

Agree, certainly need to be busier in the middle of the park from the 4 matches I have seen so far (didnt go today), I would still like to see Gally and Waghorn up front without having to play them out of position for the sake of Howard/Fryatt, I know Gally isnt an out and out striker but he's clever and would also help out with the set pieces and dead ball situations as we seem to be really poor at these under Sousa.

My only issue would be if Fryatt definitely still wants to be here. If so, then he can still be an important player for us.
Corky Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 I'm disappointed with a point, because we did enough in terms of possession and chances to win it. The defence looked much more solid today, Morrison and Hobbs very commanding and letting little pass through. Neilson had a good game too. The midfield were better today, Dyer, although his end product was lacking, was direct and dangerous, forcing the Coventry full-backs to make late lunges at him. Oakley impressed, kept possession of the ball well and got stuck in when required. Wellens was hit-and-miss, several decent passes followed by over-ambitious ones. Kingy got yet another goal, and what seemed like a delightful finish, to cap off a display where he kept things simple and tried to make things happen by getting forward. The front two cut frustrated figures, Waghorn especially, and Fryatt should've done better with a couple of opportunities but at other times was unlucky when through balls had just a little too much pace. I also hope the FLS show what appeared to be a blatant handball by a Coventry defender in their box, with the linesman's view unobstructed. Coventry were poor today, hardly created anything apart from the goal and it was no surprise some fans booed at the end. So, all-in-all, a good performance that should've merited more points, but I was pleased after the Middlesbrough and Leeds matches only to be disappointed in the next. Two very tough fixtures coming up and we have something to build on.
s11nny Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 after todays performance i think that we really do have something here with sousa. i think he obtains the ability for us to make it back to the prem. although its hard, we need to keep the faith. i can sense it in my gut. another solid performance from nielson and oakley, im really impressed with them, they both have stepped up this season. i think we just need a striker in on loan, someone with real prem quality about them that can partner waggy. dont get me wrong i like fryatt but i think we can do one better than him.
Unabomber Posted 11 September 2010 Posted 11 September 2010 Just saw this as someone's avatar on a cov forum, how ironic.
