I thought it was pretty funny, the way gervais laughs at every single thing he says got on my nerves a bit though

His laugh is so fake as well, can't make up my mind whether it's meant to be so obviously fake and an attempt at being funny or just poorly contrived.

Am I the only one who finds this show about as funny as having your balls cheese grated by Joe Brand in a thong?

Did I miss something?

I enjoyed the 1st episode as it was something new, but it's starting to grate on me now, as it's beginning to all look staged and false.

I was the opposite really, watched the first one and thought it was staged and scripted etc however after I heard in an interview that what he experiences/visits are a genuine surprise to him it made it seem funnier really. There's nothing less funny than wondering if something is fake or not.

"Normally on a Monday night I'd be tucking into a bit of leftover Lamb from Sunday roast. Not this Monday; bit of cock and bollock, along with some tongue for garnish"

If it ever seems contrived it's because it's heavily cut. They played him getting a voicemail message in the jungle in the Amazon episode - in this one he said he had no signal for 5 days. It's hours and hours of nonsensical rambling pared down to create a narrative. And it's brilliant. Though not a patch on the podcasts.

In the book that accompanies the series (available from all good book shops) it says in the amazon episode that he was passed the phone from his producer with pre recorded messages.

I ain't bothered if Pilkington is playing a character and it's scripted, it makes me chuckle and and points cry with laughter and that for me is a winner!

you are right though the original Guardian unlimited podcasts are still the original and best

Thought the podcasts got better as they went to be honest. The guides were very good because having a loose theme seemed to focus Karl's stupidity and forced Gervais to try to explain things to him more. I think my favourite few were the Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas set though.
