Hope you get a chance to go back soon. Bowness is really just the tip of the iceberg. Strike out further and higher in to the LD to really appreciate what it has to offer.

Will do, it's ace

Was going Togo with a mate next week but looking more and more likely that he will let me down - I'll still probably go on my own but that means going up on the train.

I believe the only station up there is in Windermere, so can anybody recommend any cheap accommodation near that?

Erm. You've not booked anything? I hope you have a tent...

Nah it was a last minute thing, was originally planning to go in September. I might knock it on the head then and just turn up at East Mids and say fly me anywhere.

Google yourself a bunch of B&Bs and stuff but I'd have thought everywhere would be booked up at this kind of notice.

Seriously though, buy a one man tent and just camp for a weekend.

I have to be honest, mind, as beautiful as the place is I think you'd have a much better time if you do a tiny bit of research and plan some walks first. Especially if you don't drive.

I'll happily trade you walking guide hours for personal trainer hours. ;)

Yeah I agree - should have put more work into this to be fair! This will be my 1st full week off since last September (I got Criggy, Boxing and New Years Day off though) so I just want to get out of Leicester as I'm sick of the sight of the place to be honest.

Edit: oh and nice try! ðŸ‘

Guest houses galore, if that's what you want.

Just got back from a scorching weekend in Langdale. Attempted, and completed Jack's Rake on Pavey Ark, as well as the Langdale Pikes. Beautiful sunny skies and lots of great waking rewarded with a few pints and pie and chips in Wainwright's Bar.

Aching all over tonight but well worth it, and already planning the next one (in September)

I was there last weekend. Sampled a lot of the local ales in Wainrights. Loved it

Been on about a 15 miler took us 9 hours. The weather as atrocious - 80mph winds that blew me over numerous times and obviously pissing rain.

Many mountains but on the way down we were on what I've called "Death Pass" about 6 inches of path immediately next to a 2/300ft drop down a rock face into a torrent of a stream.

Genuinely thought I was going to die at that point. I also smashed my knee into a rock here and now I'm Woking like a bell end.

From what we could see though - the scenery is absolutely stunning. Not sure the risk of death was worth it though.

Risk of death is what makes it exciting!

Back from a long weekend in Bowness. Decent weather and some easy enough hill walking done.

Will definitely be back next summer for a week if I can get the time off work.

Heading up August 23 for a week based in Keswick, looking to do Loweswater, brotherswater, latrigg etc. Have climbed helvellyn many times but dodgy knees now. Early start back on August 30 to get to the Arsenal game.

Just got back from another splendid weekend. Stayed in The George in Keswick (absolutely splendid, monster sized meat pies). Climbed Skiddaw and Little Man. Not the most challenging mountain, but great view on the way up . Summit shrouded in cloud though but a good time had by all!
