Katy Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 Just got this off LCFC Mobile Leicester City today have confirmed the signing of former Bradford City goalkeeper Paul Henderson on a two year contract subject to him passing a medical.
Cobbo Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 Henderson Agrees Foxes SwitchLeicester City today confirmed the capture of former Bradford City goalkeeper Paul Henderson on a two-year contract - subject to the player passing a medical. Henderson is currently back in his native Australia - but has agreed terms with the club and will complete the move when he returns for pre-season training. The 29-year-old arrived at the Walkers Stadium earlier this month for a short trial period, and impressed City boss Craig Levein sufficiently to offer the big Aussie a deal. Sydney-born Henderson made 40 league appearances for the Bantams last season, keeping 10 clean sheets along the way as Colin Todd's side ended their League One campaign just outside the play-off places. But the player failed to agree new terms at Valley Parade meaning he was free to join another club. City boss Craig Levein said: "We have agreed personal terms with Paul and he will undergo a medical once he returns from Australia next month." Henderson will be the third Australian to join the Leicester squad alongside Patrick Kisnorbo and club captain Danny Tiatto. lcfc.com
Katy Posted 26 May 2005 Author Posted 26 May 2005 Is he really any good? 115390[/snapback] Dunno, but we will soon find out!
Sir Fynwy Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 He's got to be better than the keepers we currently have in the squad (he's played in goal for a first team).
fosseman Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 He's an Aussie so I suppose he'll be very competitive and not shy to tell off his defenders.
Random Burglar Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 Another wait and see job i suppose, bit like de vries, we dont know what to expect!!
Fox Shagger Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 The Bradford fans spoke very highly of him and some claimed he was the best keeper outside the premiership.
Ikon_Klow Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 Have no fear. He is good player. I have been to see a few Bradford matches as I work in Leeds and get invited by clients to watch thier team. He looks very solid and the Bradford fans rave about him being their best keeper for some time. They all expected him to go onto better things. Good signing and should hopefully prove solid. Got to pass that medical first!
Ric Flair Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 This is good news. He won't be on alot of money and as alot of people are saying Douglas is dodgy, if he signs aswell atleast we've got back-up. Shrewd signing, i've seen him play a couple of times on sky and he looks more than capable of playing in this league. Not a bad age either. Well done Craig. Pass that medical though please.
Wellman Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 I've never heard of him, but CL's has seemed to make some good signings since he's been here so I've got faith in him
lcfc true blue josh 18 Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 i reckon he will be a good signing but not seen him play, however ive heard good things about him from a close source, so i think CL has made a good signing and not a bad age either
City Fan Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 So will Henderson be the Number 1, or just a back-up keeper? I thought that Levein would sign a younger back-up keeper, and if Henderson is supposed to be so good, I doubt he would want to play second-fiddle to a keeper in the Championship.......so who knows.
Scow Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 He's stepping up a division, so I don't think he'll have too many complaints if he is a back up on more money...
Benji Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 at this rate i wont need to move to australia it's coming to me!
supedaj Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 yep its funny that a 29 year old will be backup. If he is regarded as very good and best outside prem then surely we should keep him as first choice? I dont see the point in having a 29 year old as a backup - not guaranteed first team and will be on higher wages than a younger keeper i imagine.. what do people think?
Hazza Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 Well Bradford are in a worse financial position as us and he's had to compete with the Jamaican international keeper for their no.1 spot. I'd imagine he'd be on about £2,000 or something like that a week and should have no problems competing with another keeper CL brings in. 29 isn't a bad age for a keeper and i wouldn't mind a bit of competition, as it's pretty much been Walker as the no.1 if fit in recent years.
Simon Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 Sounds like a reasonable signing if hes as good as people have said. I think that maybe Levein's given up on Rab Douglas- hes had our contract offer for a while now and its dragged on a bit too much methinks...

Additionally, he's probably known for a while that O'Neill was due to step down, and may want talks with Strachan over his future.

He would have been a ready made replacement for Walker..

Durnerz Posted 26 May 2005 Posted 26 May 2005 Havn't heard much about this lad but hopefully he can do the business.
