Guest Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 Is it open yet? Any good? http://www.thefontpub.co.uk/index.php Well, the link you posted gives you the answers to both those questions.
BigBawsFaeTheShaws Posted 8 November 2010 Author Posted 8 November 2010 Well, the link you posted gives you the answers to both those questions. Actually it doesn't. It says open November 4th but as we all know with builders / refurbishment's these dates can slip. Was wondering if anyone has been past (or in even) since Friday? Thanks for your helpful insight though.
Guest Bilo Posted 8 November 2010 Posted 8 November 2010 The Gateway was always a very nice pub, some good ales on tap but the Swan was always preferred really. The Font might do well if it's carrying on in the same traditions. As for whether it's open yet, it wasn't when I walked past earlier but I had a quick peep through the window and I don't think it'll be too long before it does if that helps.
BigBawsFaeTheShaws Posted 11 November 2010 Author Posted 11 November 2010 So looks like 'The Font' is open & serving. Anyone give it a go last night before Sheff Utd?
Simo86 Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 So looks like 'The Font' is open & serving. Anyone give it a go last night before Sheff Utd? It seems to have gone up market! I park across the road from it on match days. There was hardly anyone in it. Supposably they do not want footy fans in the pub but they don't mind the rugby fans! It seemed there were more bouncers than customers on wednesday night

davieG Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 imagine alot of people may just not have realised it was back open again... doubt the pub would turn away the trade it used to get on matchdays from football fans either No football colours allowed apparently.
Dr The Singh Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 No football colours allowed apparently. I heard they only like the 'Blue Oyster Bar' Types (reference to Police Academy)!!!
Guest BlueBrett Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 No football colours allowed apparently. Fair enough really. All football fans are scum afterall.
m00nie Posted 12 November 2010 Posted 12 November 2010 No football colours allowed apparently. wow.. pub was generally always rammed on a matchday.. thats a lot of £££ to be turning down.. especially in these times..
KingBob Posted 3 December 2010 Posted 3 December 2010 Sorry to be a numpty but where is this pub? Hi Guys I've been into The Font a few times now and have spoken to various staff about 'us lot' coming in for drinks pre match, As with most pubs now its no colours which is fair cop but they are more than happy for us to be there always a winner and its the same when I went to the last Tigers game. I must the food is amazing and the wife enjoyed the meal we had, 3 course Sunday dinner for ten quid, belly buster, christmas dinner BOOKED Definitely making this one of my drinking spots, Beats Sports Bar any day!! Stix, Google Maps says http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&channel=s&ie=UTF8&q=the+font&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=the+font&hnear=Leicester&cid=0,0,16922638361098921529&ei=3zb4TMPAJsaAhAeer8DGDw&oi=local_result&sqi=2&ved=0CDwQnwIwAw&ll=52.629794,-1.137493&spn=0.005965,0.021136&t=h&z=16&iwloc=A It's in-between the University union building and John Peel pub , can't miss it Now to worry about what Santa is getting the little uns!

Daggers Posted 3 December 2010 Posted 3 December 2010 I heard they only like the 'Blue Oyster Bar' Types (reference to Police Academy)!!! Yet another bar for you then. THE BEST BEERS, THE BEST COCKTAILS, THE BEST FOODTHE BEST SERVICE, THE BEST VALUE That's some claim. If I have a cocktail and it isn't "the best" I wonder if I can sue? Leese?

Daggers Posted 3 December 2010 Posted 3 December 2010 Hi Guys I've been into The Font a few times now and... ...that is because I am the Landlord.
Dr The Singh Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 I was there on saturday pre match with a few others briefly and I thought it was a good pub. I actually prefered it to the Swan....I should be going again!!
Ashley Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 Does this still do the big cobs with meet and gravy like the old Gateway?
Dr The Singh Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 Does this still do the big cobs with meet and gravy like the old Gateway? i dunno, bt it does still do food!!
Daggers Posted 14 December 2010 Posted 14 December 2010 i dunno, bt it does still do food!! And drink? Do they do drink too?
Dr The Singh Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 And drink? Do they do drink too? They do all the manly drinks ie babycham, cherry brandy, malibu!! Seriously, they do many ales and beers and have vedette on tap!!
Daggers Posted 15 December 2010 Posted 15 December 2010 They do all the manly drinks ie babycham, cherry brandy, malibu!! Seriously, they do many ales and beers and have vedette on tap!! IF they don't have maraschino cherries then I'm out, it's a deal-breaker for me.
Paddy_Maguire Posted 17 September 2011 Posted 17 September 2011 I know this is a very old topic, but it came up on my google search for this pub and i was curious to hear from fans. Basically I've had a day of being absolutely incensed with their policy, thus taking away our local before games. I know it shouldn't wind me up, it's their pub. But the sheer snobbery of turning away that level of trade to keep the place looking 'trendy' is beyond me. Then to come on here and see what is blatantly someone who works there making a feeble attempt to deliver some patter with nonsense about his little uns and 'the wife'. Urgh. I was just wondering if anyone still bothers with it before matches? They initially had bouncers to keep you out, showing they had done literally zero research on how friendly The Gateway atmosphere was. Then they make you turn it inside out, then today we went in and they seemed to be reluctant to allow that. For weeks they had no ale on tap, now they have one solitary draught beer. Can you call that a 'pub'? I've e-mailed them, but I just hate snobbery so much and this is an absolute blatant case of it. You can keep the studenty crowd (though god knows how they afford it) without turfing footy fans out every other Saturday. They won't get scared. Again, sorry for dragging an oldie up.

I went there on saturday after the match, although I do like the range of beers there, the beers are expensive, relative to say Swan. I dunno about snobbery but the crowd aren't typical stundenty but what I would say, more descerning studenty or more descerning modern trendy looking crowd. According to Gazzer, he went before the game and said he stood at the bar waiting to order and the staff seemed unintersted so....he waited for 5 minutes and walked away!!! But I went with him after the game and got a near full pint for a price of a half cus they ran out of Stella Black, which was nice of them!!! The place isn't overly welcoming and not for everyone's taste I dunno who works there and who is the one who makes this patter about his wife and littleuns????
