IF (and it's a big 'if')we were to sign the complete Brazilian National Team or say half a dozen or so of those currently regarded as the best footballers in the world, (assuming that money grew on money trees and LCFC won every lottery every week), then regardless, we would still get the perpetual moaners contributing negative, destructive comments to these boards, Radio Leicester, Sky Sports or wherever.

Whereas, of course, they are fully entitled to their opinion, today, most City fans, at the Walkers and round the world, welcomed a most pleasing win which was hard on the heels of a win at Hull and gave us seven points from the twelve available this Christmas period. However, perusing through messages posted after today's game, I was amazed, disappointed and rather saddened to read that for some, today's victory over Swansea City was the prelude to relegation, the demise of the Club, the end of the world?

I recently had a thread stating that in my opinion Sven had to 'get it right'. I think that he will and the Club is on the verge of success that will surpass anything in the past.

I thoroughly enjoyed the game and although it was a really heartening result, I personally have memories of what I consider to be an even more outstanding victory over Swansea Town (as it was then) – November 12^th 1955 when we won 6-1 with goals from Mal Griffiths, Johnny Morris, Arthur Rowley and a hat-trick from Willie Gardiner.

An historic occasion – because it was the first time a City league match at Filbert Street had been televised – and we were able to watch the highlights all over again in Peter Dimmock's 'Sportsview'– in black and white – that night at half past ten!!!

So, on behalf of those of us who look for the positives, for those of us for whom the glass is half-full as opposed to being half-empty, may I take the liberty of saying to the Jonah – moaners , 'smile and give your face a joy-ride, you're a long time dead, enjoy what you can while you can, because in the words of W.S.Gilbert:-

For joy lies everywhere around!'

I don't see it as 'a battle' Finnegan! - I fully accept that these folk will always be around but at the same time, it is possibly occasionally necessary to remind them that their views are by and large, of little or no consequence to the rest of us.

As the old sayings remind us: 'It takes all sorts to make a world' and 'You may please some of the folk all of the time, you may please all of the folk some of the time but you can't please all of the folk all of the time and some folk you will never please!'

I sometimes wonder how some of these folk would cope if they themselves were faced with having to actually make the decisions or were responsible for the actions of which they are so ready to criticise in others. My guess is they would run a mile or if they did have an input, then there really would be chaos.

As one who is absolutely delighted with our start to the New Year and who's described Sven as having "class" I wouldn't dream of letting you dictate my response to anything City did.

You're not the only one who remembers seeing Rowley or Gardiner nor who remembers the days when we were a sometimes thrilling football team which won things at the highest level and scored goals for fun on occasions.

And knowing what we were capable of and could be capable of in the future I'm damned if I'll sit silent and condone the sort of fear-filled unimaginative football we've been served here in recent years or the appearance in a City shirt of people like Kirkland who wasn't even fit or Bednar (similarly) who never wanted to do anything but moan that he was fouled.

Some of us care enough about our club to hate to see us selling ourselves short and being subject to decisions that are plain stupid or to hear of us wasting thousands of pounds a week on the sort of shit we've had here in recent years.

You enjoy the game as you like and good luck. But don't think all of us will become the sorts who would smile at our own execution. I haven't liked losing from the time I was a kid in junior school and I like losing even less when there's something might be done about it or when it happens through a lack of commitment like at Ipswich.

Yes I know that, to some, football and football supporting is not so much about winning as taking part. Me I think the whole purpose of a contest or challenge is to find a winner or loser - to get the best out of yourself - and I sure know which kind of result I prefer.

You and I are two of the regrettably dwindling number of fans who remember the glory days of the fifties and sixties and are thus in a privileged position to make valid comparisons with how it was then and how the fortunes of the Club have fared over the years.

As such, I have no problem with fans such as yourself who may choose to be openly critical of those connected with the Club for precisely the reasons you state. We have been City fans for so long that it is in our bloodstream, part and parcel of our everyday lives. We take great and indeed fierce pride in OUR Club and it is our Club. Owners, Chairmen, Managers, Players, officials and admin staff come and go. They work for the Club. They are entrusted with keeping the Club solvent, viable and successful at any one point in time. It is only their Club while they are there. Without the fans, there would be no Club. The whole ethos of the Club is in the hearts and minds of the fans and they are fully entitled to show their displeasure or disapproval because such criticism stems from a desire to be constructive and to point out the way they feel we should be going.

I take issue with those people who would purport to be 'fans' and while seeking to make comment which often is of a derogatory and destructive nature, in reality couldn't care less whether the Club is successful or not but would undoubtedly delight in any misfortune.

I was at both Swansea games, the one yesterday and the one in 1955. I believe that Swansea were at the top of the league in 1955 and had some big name players in their side, Mel Charles, Len Allchurch and others, so it was a famous and convincing victory for us.

I don't understand the moaning about the deserved win yesterday either.

I was quoting from my actual 4d programme. The top half of page 5 has a full - face portrait of Ivor Allchurch with a general article about theclub and their team in the lower half.

As programmes were printed well before the day of the match, It was quite usual to announce any team changes prior to the kick-off.

Remember, at that point in time, there was no such thing as substitutes nor were there any floodlights.
