Yakubu & Loanees to stay?

Yakubu wants to stay at Leicester City if they are promoted to the Premier League.

Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson says there is a "very big possibility" that the on-loan Everton striker will make a permanent move to the Walkers Stadium if City's quest is successful.

The Nigerian international has scored four goals in eight starts as City strive to make a late claim for a Championship play-off spot.

Eriksson said: "I'm quite sure if we go up that Yakubu will stay, and he wants to."

If City miss out on top-flight promotion for the second season running, the situation regarding the former Middlesbrough and Portsmouth striker, who earns around £40,000 a week, is less clear.

However, Eriksson said failing to gain promotion this season might not necessarily be the end of the City careers of fellow loanees Patrick van Aanholt, Jeffrey Bruma, Kyle Naughton and Ben Mee.

He said: "I should like to buy them all as they are very good for the club.

"Firstly, I have to discuss things with the players and then the chairmen of their clubs (Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester City) which is even more difficult.

"Some have said it will cost us a lot of money to buy them but I already know that.

"We will wait a couple of weeks and then start to see where we are."

All five loanees have made an impact, although left-back van Aanholt has now been ruled out for up to a month with a torn thigh muscle.

Naughton and Yakubu should be our priorities for the summer, must sign them especially Naughton!!! bring back hobbs to play alongside sol sol bambaaa!!!!

i wouldn't mind keeping Ben Mee & Kyle Naughton from the younger loanees & also it'd be interesting to see if Gregg Cunningham is as good as he was when he recovers from his broken leg :)

Thats good then because they are the two we are most likely to get! Yak if we are in the prem obv. Naughton has been the best loan signing for me would love it if he stays

YAK is too lazy and I don't think he really cares about the club, every mistake he makes he has a massive grin on his face...

NAUGHTON to stay, one of our best players at the mo and he will keep getting better

That's given me a bit of a boost actually.

I'd be very happy if the loanees stayed even if they were just season long loans right from the summer, all will be great players

Yes, I'm far from PVAs biggest fan this season, but he's definitely one for the future and it would be nice to be the benefiting club not just the training club where he's concerned.

He isn't the most industrial striker, but he is a class above and he smiles because he know given more chances he will put them away. He didn't have his best game against cov but his touch, vision, awareness and general movement is premier league!

Bit weird for some to say as Leicester supporters that were almost too good for Yakubu. 4 goals in 8 games is a decent enough record imo.

hmm I think I'll need a YAK hat trick on sat to convince me :giggle:

We won't be buying Yak as we won't be going up, it's NAUGHTON I will miss next season, our best player imo.

You're right. We should get rid of him and sign Adam Le Fondre from Rotherham instead. I've heard he runs around loads and never smiles.

Maybe we should get Hume back, he used to run around alot but didnt score that many.

Yakubu is shite! Get rid, 4 in 8 isn't good enough. Running around like a headless chicken is what counts

Firstly, Yak's fallen out with Moyes. Secondly, Yak's said he wants to stay. Put 2+2 together, and most likely you'd get 4. The window of opportunity is there to buy him and I wouldn't be one to pass that up if I was in Sven's shoes.

Thirdly, you've looked in to the future and know we aren't going up?!

Naughton is a must. I also like the look of Mee after a shaky start, and would be pleased to see him signed.

PVA/Bruma - meh.

As for Yak. It'd depend on cost and wages. If we were spending £6m + on him with reported wages of £60k + then I'd rather we look elsewhere.

While his goal to game ratio is good, it's only the Championship and if he's looked lazy at times whilst on loan and eager to impress, imagine how lazy he'll look once he's settled down to a three year contract...!

Article says 40k/week so don't know where 60k's come from.

Sven has more mens numbers in his phonebook than Jordan!!

Worse case scenario we don't get promoted and all these players go back to their clubs then I have every confidence Sven can build a strong squad of permamanet and loan players through the summer to tackle the championship head on next season.

If our permanent signings Bamba and Vassel are anything to go by then i'm sure we will bring in quality.

Nothing like judging people after a couple of games hey. Funny really considering you changed your mind about Mee after his "shaky start".

I missed that and was speculating on what I'd perceive to be excessive transfer fee and wages. The point stands though, £40k a week, in the Prem, is acceptable but it'd depend on the transfer fee. I'm not sure he'd have enough fire in his belly if he was signed permanently.

Indeed, hilarious.

Firstly though, where did I say I changed my mind on Mee? I said I liked the look of him 'after a shaky start'.

PVA has had as many games as Mee. Mee's impressed in this time and improved, PVA not as much.

Besides, the 'meh' was more a case of being indifferent on them at this moment rather than having made my mind up.

Relax eh?

Its probably more a case of "if" we get promoted that any of them will even consider joining us, but ive got to say Naughton is a must either way, i would like Bruma and Mee to join, not as fussed about VA or the Yak to be honest (they are both good players but im just not sure  )

Posted

Naughton is the one for me, I'd much rather us get him than Yakubu if I'm honest. I'll be gutted if we can't get our hands on him on a permanent, but I can't help but feel there will be bigger fish in for him. We'll see...

Because you have written Bruma off after two games (one out of position). So it stands to reason you would have thought exactly the same about Mee after his first game. But, I'm sure you saw something in Mee's first game that means you didn't. (yeah right)

Relax eh?

I'm perfectly relaxed thanks.

Don't think we should even be thinking about this until we've done the job. Good chance none of the current loanees will return if we fail to get promotion, and a couple of our "star" players will be off as well, which is worrying.
