Match of the Day: Live Championship Football

Anyone else fed up with seeing the same teams on BBC1/2? When the BBC got the rights to 10 live games a year I though great a chance for Leicester to finally get some coverage on normal TV for a change. But now apart from our all to often brief appearances on The Football League Show we hardly get a look in!

We had one game last year (v Cov at home) and I though especially with Sven in charge we might get atleast 1 this season but alas no. Last season I lost count of the amount of times Newcastle, West Brom or Cardiff got a game shown and the same thing is happening again this year! This time its QPR, Cardiff, Swansea, Leeds and Derby that seem to get all the games!

I'm all for giving everyone a fair chance but come on BBC! I know they can only select the games that Sky aren't showing but still some LCFC on the BBC would be nice! Also, I was very suprised that Norwich haven't had a game (As far as I can remember) because in my opinion they are/were one of the more exciting teams in the Championship this season.

Here's hoping that the BBC get fair next year and give us that can't afford Sky/have another service the change to see DIFFERENT teams on the TV for a change! I don't care if Leicester only get one game a season if they're really lucky but lets see some other teams! Teams that have perhaps just got promoted i.e. Brighton but I think its fair to say that West Ham, Wigan and or Blackpool/Wolves will get the benefits again! Give the poorer clubs in the league some much needed revenue!

So end of rant and I won't be watching QPR v Leeds this weekend simply because I don't really like either club!

This season:

Leeds v Derby (7 August)

• Burnley v Preston (11 September)

• Doncaster Rovers v Sheffield United (23 October)

• Cardiff City v Swansea City (7 November)

• Norwich City v Ipswich Town (28 November)

• QPR v Watford (10 December)

• Swansea v Cardiff (6 February)

• Leeds v Nottingham Forest (2 April)

• Cardiff v QPR (23 April)

And this Saturday:

QPR vs Leeds

Palace vs Forest

Derby only been on once so don't know why you including them in your rant. Norwich have had one and most of them seem to be derbies which Sky didn't choose.

Plus, they're only going to choose games where entertainment value is potentially high and because the teams are playing well (or it's a derby match as said). And the only reason that the 2 games on Saturday have been chosen is because there's a chance, albeit tiny, that Leeds/Forest will swap places, and it's the only match that has any importance.

I'm not too fussed if we make it on to TV next season, but if we have anything like QPR's season next season, you'll see a lot of us. I'd much rather have the media spotlight shown on other teams than us, but it's inevitable that if we're consistently 1st or 2nd throughout next season, we're bound to get more coverage.

Not this crap again.

Ford Super Sunday will bring up the stats saying how much coverage we've had on the FLS show. It's not all too brief.

Tiny bit hard as I live in Hull and I'm one of those people that tax payers hate... a student so I don't think tax payers would liek the idea of their money going on me visiting the Walkers every other week or so! I do however, go to as many of the away games near me as I can i.e. Hull, S/thorpe, Leeds, Barnsley, Doncaster, Sheffield and pay out of my own money that I saved!!

In reply to why I included Derby- I just don't like Derby. I apologse for Norwich I just have a slight soft spot for them

i just guessing seen as he is saying he would like to see them on BBC....im not bothered if we are or not since i go games so just a random guess lol

Well as someone who isn't able to attend a great deal of games per season I am always grateful for the opportunity to watch us on T.V albeit BBC, ITV, SKY or whoever. Well done for being able to attend all the games, but understand for others, being able to watch us on the T.V now and again is an issue.

Thanks for summing up my argument so well!! Totally agree!!

Not 100% certain but i think bbc haven't renewed that contract and won't be showing any live games next season.

I don't understand why people say this. Surely it's nice to get some attention? Don't you want everyone to see us as a prominent Club and not just average?

Whenever we're on TV any mention of us is really patronising. 'ooh Leicester have had some famous players you know. Leicester were in the Prem once you know. Leicester have a newish stadium you know.'.

I'm fed up of all the genuine praise going to Leeds and Forest (as well as all the Prem Clubs in the top half). They're always on TV and always getting comments about how great their fans are, what an atmosphere it is at their ground and what a historic Club they are.

One day I'd like the media to wank over us for once. I'm fed up of us having nothing to be proud of.

That's disappointing.

At least BBC don't have Goodman or Birtles. Their live coverage is much better than Sky's IMO.

are you suggesting there are some on this forum that believe your not a true fan unless:

- you attend every game home and away game (even if it means missing the birth of your firstborn)

- buying and wearing every piece of sh!te merchandise churned out by the club

- believing everything written in the Leicester Mercury.

- actively contributing to the Radio Leicester phone in...

- subscribing to Foxes Player

- Chanting 'Stringer is our hero' daily

- blindly defending the incumbent manager regardless of what they can see in front of them on the pitch.

Now come on, surely contributors to this forum wouldn't be that fickle... Would they!

Yes as a LEICESTER fan I am dissapointed not to see us on the BBC, it does seem unfair that some teams get all the coverage, Leeds, Swansea and Cardiff directors must of given someone at the BBC a quick one off the wrist ;)

However as a FOOTBALL fan I think it's great to see live league football on the BBC on a Saturday, no matter who's playing. For far too long before the BBC decided to buck their Ideas up, live league football was a Sky Sports, ITV Digital, Setanta ONLY area of TV.

AND whilst i'm at it... I think it's a disgrace that some England games are only shown on Sky.

When ENGLAND are playing (home OR away), the whole country should be able to switch on the BBC and support their country.

As Corky predicted, here I am.

Can we PLEASE, just PLEASE dispel this myth that we get hardly any coverage on the FLS, for the love of christ. I've copied my post from about a month ago showing the stats:

Those HL are broken down to..

Middlesbrough (H) (11 Mins)

Reading (H) (8 Mins)

Portsmouth (A) (8 Mins)

Doncaster (H) (5 Mins)

Ipswich (A) (13 Mins)

Millwall (H) (7 Mins)

Derby (A) (6 Mins)

Coventry (H) (4 Mins)

QPR (12 Mins)

Portsmouth (H) (4 Mins)

There have been 35 Football League Shows this season, 32 of which feauture the NPC (The other three were on international weekends). If we're being really pedantic we can say 31 episodes for Leicester, as we played Forest on a Monday night.

So of those 31 episodes where we could possibly have featured on the FLS this season, we've had commentary highlights TEN times, and Saturday will make it 11 out of 32.

That ain't bad coverage. We can count ourselves lucky.

Now, as I said, they aren't bad at all. Anyone who thinks we'd have any feautres after the Reading game doesn't know about broadcasting, seeing as we had basically no chance of getting into the Play-offs after the Reading game.

Specifically on the BBC, you're right they have 10 games, so they have to choose wisely. I don't expect to be picked by them, and as soon as we'd had a bad start I wasn't expecting to get a live match.

As per the new contract, that kicks in the season after next, so there will still be 10 matches next season. There is of course potential. With Sven and glamour signings, we could well get absolutely bummed by the BBC.

Don't forget that one of the reasons we've had longer highlights is that many of our home games are done as an OB to Thailand etc, so if that continues the BBC may choose to use the footage.

Make no mistake, if we're at the top of the table next season, we'll be on the BBC. We were in 09/10 when we played Coventry, and just like QPR this season, we'll get matches on there.

Some people need to be bloody grateful for the coverage we get. We've not had Football League broadcasting this good since it was live on ITV, and you had your Soccer Sunday, with Leicester live a lot.

Slate it now, but you'll miss it when it's gone, trust me.

EDIT: Noticed this as quite frankly I didn't read the OPs drivel all the way through

Give the poorer clubs in the league some much needed revenue

You do realise that the money given to the FL to broadcast our home games to Thailand and Sweden etc goes into a collective pot, which is then distributed to the rest of the league? We are essentially giving NPC clubs a bigger TV share, they're getting the revenue.

I'm all for equality and more chances, but the BBC and Sky are going to go for the best games, it's illogical not to do so. Scunthorpe v Barnsley on a Saturday evening is not going to be that attractive on the BBC. Leicester v West Ham next season may well be.
