Guest Basildon Fox Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 There was a challenge towards the end with Connor Wickham, he ran through Tunchev, but he's a massive unit, and apart from that he was good. Not many challenges, more interceptions and clearances, but, fingers crossed, he's not deteriorated too much over these painful 2 years. Lets hope so. His game was always on positional sense and reading of the game but you do fear for him the first time somebody hits him hard. Deserves some kind of contract next season if nothing else for his dedication to comming back. Remember reading an article about him where he has still turned up for nearly every game to watch them play even though he could not himself. The guy has class.
Corky Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 It's good to see Tunchev pick up some really positive reviews. How did he look, physically? I appreciate he's not going to be 90 minute match fit until after a hard pre-season but that amount of time out can really take it's toll on the body of a professional athlete. Does he still look strong, sturdy? He looked better than I thought he would. He ran freely and moved seemingly without too much pain.

I appreciate he's not going to be 90 minute match fit until after a hard pre-season but that amount of time out can really take it's toll on the body of a professional athlete. Does he still look strong, sturdy? He just lacked a bit of sharpness really. Otherwise he looked much better than I expected and lasted the pace well. He certainly didn;t look short of general fitness which has seemed the case when players have returned from long term injury in the past and his positional play seemed almost as solid as ever. One poster mentioned Wickham going through him and that lad looks just about as big a handful as I've seen down here in Championship football. But Tunchev has never really been a physical footballer - his strengths are his positional play and passing. Now Heskey and Tunchev together - that's quite appealing. A little bit of pace, a bit of strength, a lot of combined experience that is much needed and the all round ability to pass the ball.

My heart was in my mouth when he went down in the area second half and the physio came rushing on. Thank God he'd only been whacked in the face with the ball.

Alf Bentley Posted 8 May 2011 Posted 8 May 2011 Weale 6 Some decent saves but still looked short on confidence Naughton 6 OK but packing his bags - for summer or for Premier League? Vitor 6 Solid till he went off - looked disappointed to go off...maybe wants to stay? Bruma 6.5 Good show apart from silly handball for penalty PVA 5 Careless & does he offer anything other than athleticism - e.g. defending? Wellens 6.5 Decent Abe 8 Finished season on a high - good passing & tackling & a nice goal King 8 As per Abe - always involved & threatening, great movement Gallagher 8 Best passer on the day, surprised others are rating him lower Vassell 6 OK, shame he had to go off...but I'd like to see him central in a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 next season (that requires different midfielders, though) Yakubu 8 Mobile team play, committed & a threat - he's won me over big time (but again, preferably with a 2nd central striker) Tunchev 7.5 One underhit backpass apart, looked pretty fit, assured & classy - some great anticipation & interceptions...could yet be our best summer signing! Kamara 7.5 Some threatening direct runs again Oakley 6.5 Fine
okie fox Posted 8 May 2011 Posted 8 May 2011 Were you actually at the game? Sorry but nearly all the ones i've highlighted are total rubbish. Naughton did not cover Wickham all that well, he was able to move freely and deliver some good balls in had a few shots that was well saved by Weale. How can you really judge Vassell on the amount of gameplay he had? You can't and he did what he normally does every game. Yakubu lead the line perfectly, I don't know who you were watching but Yakubu was great today, he got down the wings, assisted in the middle/wings and all round scared their defense. Kamara* not Camara. I know these ratings are a matter of opinion but yours are just total tripe, sorry. Yes, I was at the game. Are you the spelling police? Have the balls to post your own ratings.

Not really, I just thought it's blatantly obvious you spelt it wrong as the name is branded around the forum a lot. Balls? Like you need balls to post some ratings

StanSP Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Weale - 8 - Despite a shit season, I'm glad he ended on a high; made some fantastic saves and kept us from going 2 or 3 down before we got our goals. Naughton - 7 - Fairly standard performance from Kyle, was the influence for one of the goals, wriggling his way out of 3 Ipswich players. Vitor - 6 - Bit unlucky he got injured really. Can't really say much for him! Bruma - 7 - Good solid performance. Composed and commanding in the air. Seemed to link with Tunchev well but for one communication error. Van Aanholt - 5 - Purely at fault for their second and had our luck been different it could have been the instigator for a collapse. However, he made up in the perfect way by linking up with Gally and Yak for Kamara's goal. Wellens - 8 - one of the stand-out performers again, and proved why he won his award. The rock in the middle again. Abe - 9 - For me, my man of the match. Looked so comfortable on the ball and nothing better than to end the season on a high with your first goal for the club . Can't wait to see him again next season. King 7.5 - Took his goal superbly - I sometimes wonder why players go for diving headers instead of volleys, but King has shown me why! Should have slotted away a 2nd before Kamara got his goal but another good performance by him. Yakubu - 8 - As mentioned in PVA's rating, his link-up for Kamara's goal was impressive. And I don't think he'll have an easier goal to score for the rest of his career. Just glad he didn't do what he did for Nigeria that time! Took a nice little tumble for Abe's goal too. Made me laugh a bit. Gallagher - 6 - The **** sitting behind me booed him as his name was called out. Annoyed me. But unless he was psychic, annoyingly he had reason too. Seemed a bit off the pace and lost the ball a few times. Great cross for King's goal though. Perfectly weighted and just begging to be buried. Vassell - Was a shame he got injured, however it was a blessing in disguise as Kamara shone. Subs: Kamara - 8.5 - Loved everything about his game yesterday. Charging at players with the ball at his feet and not afraid to take players on. Never seemed to give up either. Shame about his booking and involvement in the handbags though. Oakley - 6.5 - Quiet game, didn't have that much time to make a big impact. Tunchev - 8.5 - I've said all along throughout his injury that I don't think he'll ever be back to his best. And as calm and collected he looked at sweeping virtually all attacks Ipswich had, you could see he would shy away from the big challenges. Fair enough as it's natural to do so after such a long time out and you don't want to take any risks. Had a great game though.
