Fuller and CKR please.

God that would be good. Fuller's a crock, so it would be pay-as-you-play for him.

121237[/snapback]

Exactly, Pompey want rid and nobody will pay money for him. He'd jump at the chance to earn say £5-6k a week and play regularly, well I would if I was in his position.

What's funny is that he hasn't been injured recently, but no big team will touch him because he won't pass a medical.

At least Forster can score goals.

Who would you rather have up front? Deep Freeze or Forster? I know which I would prefer.........

Infact i'd get Ricardo Fuller in. Pompey want rid, we could get him for nothing and he runs defences wild in this league.

Levein was also responsible for bringing him in to British football.

Fuller and CKR please.

Yes to Ricardo Fuller, the one player that has impressed me (preston) a couple of years back.

We need an athlete, abit like the lads from wigan who can run at the defence.

No to Nicky Foster, backwards move.

I think some people on here need to realise that....

1) We have very little money so hardly going to be able to attract the likes of Ricardo Fuller etc.

2) I bet its really hard attracting players of a certain quality to join a team who finished in the bottom half of the Championship last season.

Maybury, Hughes, McCarthy....

Derby nearly got relegated, then in the summer signed the likes of Idiakez, Bisgaard, Raziak, Reich....

ALL clubs have very little money (the top 6 in the Prem aside)

Many are trying to get rid of the excess players, they players are starting to realise they CANNOT command massive wages anymore.

We are more sensible with the money we have.

I definitely think we can do better than Forster, although he isn't as bad as some people are making out. He does have quite a lot of pace, but is edging towards 32, and I'm sure Levein will want to draft in a younger striker with potential, which is what he would have got with Sturm perhaps.

We have one of the largest wage/transfer budgets in the division so you're selling us abit short there if you ask me.

I know it's difficult to get hold of a young starlet who will turn out to be worth millions of pounds and rip this league apart, but that's what the managers are paid for. They are paid to unearth talent and it's definately possible. Preston did it with Nugent, Sunderland did it with Elliott, Lawrence and Whitehead last season.

Fuller will leave this summer and he'll join a championship team, considering Levein gave him his big break at Hearts it wouldn't be impossible to get him here. Also the type of player we are looking to sign will be more than impressed at joining Leicester as we are after young, ambitious players with a point to prove. We are a relatively big club and if we get a reputation for giving young players a chance, others will want to come here. Hughes and Paddy have excelled in their time here, if I was a young player looking to move up a league or two or if I was at a big club and wasn't getting a chance then a team like Leicester would be perfect.

I'm not sure I believe this rumour but even if we did get him I doubt it would be as anything more than back-up striker with Levein still looking for/persuading a better and younger striker to come in. Still plenty of time to sign people.

We are looking for a striker whose main attribute is pace (as we don't have one in the squad currently, so it provides more options in a game - even if from the subs bench)

No idea on the current targets, we do know the main original striker target fell through (although again don't know the name)

Probably McSheffrey or Lee Miller. If it's Colin Kazim-Richards i'll be gutted, haven't heard anything since I was told he was all set to sign for us.

Just get over it some people!

We are a club in the mid-table of the Championship and to get Nicky Forster on board is a step forward, even if he is a squad player he can score goals. He is a good Championship player for crying out loud! He didn't get the rub of the green last season, but hey, nor did Connolly to some.

So will some people just stop moaning all the time, and just back the managers decisions!

You seem very quick to jump in and declare who's right for the club, surely the manager knows that.

Keep buying Craig!

Craig is only going to get one or two strikers, if we get Forster there might not be any more buying.

Forster decides to leave Reading

Forster has spent six years with Reading

Striker Nicky Forster has decided to leave Reading after scoring 67 goals in 214 senior appearances during his six-year spell at the club.

The 31-year-old has rejected the offer of a new 12-month contract.

"My situation is based on the fact that the length of contract offered was only 12 months," he told Reading's website.

"At this stage of my career, I need more security, and a two-year deal at least. It's something I had to weigh up long and hard."

Forster's League career began at Gillingham, before moves to Brentford and Birmingham - from where he joined the Royals for £650,000 in June 1999.

Only one striker will be signed

Posted

Well if thats the case then we can wave goodbye to a promotion challenge next season. I'm not exactly impressed with the signings so far as it is. We've tightened up the defence but we're not going to score enough goals. Up front we've only got Connolly who's very hit and miss, to be partnered by Dublin/De Vries/Morris (which never worked last season) or this new kid, and if it's Forster we'll be lucky to finish in the top half.

Oh the pessimism.

Foxes Trust - By saying only one will be "signed", is there any chance Craig will bring a striker in on loan?

According to today's Daily Star, Ipswich are looking to sign Forster as replacement for Darren Bent. Maybe not quite as cut and dried as people originally thought.

I still suspect Bothroyd will be the striker in. Regarding the only one striker to be signed, presumably if we were to sell Tommy Wright or AN other then this scenario could yet change. IMO we would sign only one if all others stay. If we move people on then surely they would be replaced.

Also I am not too despondant about only signing one new striker as both Connolly and Dublin had improved greatly under Levein and had started to look quite potent and I also expect MDV to be greatly improved next season with all this additional fitness work. If CL can bring in a decent 4th striker I think we have a good chance.

Question for Fox 4 Life. How is Scott Davies doing at the Reading academy?

Hi Mate, what I have seen of scott i have been impressed, he is a tidy player, can play in either midfield or defence and is quite creative, do you know him?

Forster First Signing?

By Phil

Date: 11/6/2005

Former Reading striker Nicky Forster looks increasingly likely to become Town's first summer signing. The 31-year-old frontman has turned down a one-year deal with the Royals and has reportedly already been in talks with the Blues.

Boss Joe Royle said last month that he had a free transfer target in mind as a replacement for Darren Bent with the player aware of his interest.

According to reports, the former England U21 international will continue talks when Royle returns from his holiday next week with the move expected to go through soon after.

Forster, a popular figure during his six years at the Madejski Stadium, told Reading he would not sign his new contract earlier in the week. The former Hythe, Gillingham, Brentford and Birmingham frontman is keen to sign a longer deal at this stage of his career.

Sheffield United, Millwall, Burnley, QPR and Stoke City have also been linked with the 5ft 9in Caterham-born striker.

During his time at Reading, having signed for £650,000 from Birmingham in June 1999, Forster made 179 starts (plus 34 appearances as a sub), and scored 67 goals.

Looks like he is coming To town. not sure he'd be quite the replacement we'd want but you cant mcomplain about a freebie I guess?

I hope Ipswich do get him. Forster does not exactly fill me with excitement. There are better Strikers out there that we can sign im sure

Well if thats the case then we can wave goodbye to a promotion challenge next season. I'm not exactly impressed with the signings so far as it is.

I bet you were one of the people that were impressed with the signings last summer and thought we had a good chance of promotion? How you can say you're not impressed with them before they've even played their first game baffles me.

We've tightened up the defence but we're not going to score enough goals.

Weren't we the only team in the bottom half of the Championship last season with a positive goal difference? If we've tightened up the defence then that should cut out the silly goals that were turning potential victories into draws. If we add one more striker to a team that scored 49 goals last season and we've tightened up a defence that conceded 46 then in theory the striker will add another 10 goals to the tally and the new defence will cut 10 out. You can't be sure on exact figures but you said yourself the defence is tighter. West Brom got up a couple of seasons ago having scored 61 goals but because their defence was so good their goal difference was still +32. With one more striker that could bag 10 atleast and an improved de Vries I think 61 would be reachable. Also I can see us getting a lot more goals from the midfield too. Either Hughes or Williams will be making runs into the box regularly I expect. Hughes started to do it last season but wasn't as fit as he could be due to lack of first team football at Rangers.

Up front we've only got Connolly who's very hit and miss, to be partnered by Dublin/De Vries/Morris (which never worked last season) or this new kid, and if it's Forster we'll be lucky to finish in the top half.

You can't blame Connolly for being hit and miss. He rarely got service of any quality and he had so many different partners. Dublin, Scowcroft, Benjamin, Wright and de Vries all at some stage or another. I think this is where our smaller squad may come in handy. Although you need some competition, a settled starting 11 is very important and we haven't really had one for a couple of seasons. The season we did win promotion under Adams you could almost predict the team the night before a game. I think that helped us but once we got up the defence was always changing and we struggled. At the end of last season we had a settled back four and we kept three clean sheets.
