In today's modern age, it seems that the savvy modern footballer knows their way around the interweb, and likes to be in touch with the fans and other players and such within the footballing community via their own promotional website or by the phenomenon that is twitter.

Please read this article here:

and extracted here:

"I will be watching Sky Sports News and hopefully I will see that we have signed a few players. It is going to be an exciting summer.

"I am always checking the internet to see who we are signing. I want to be successful and, to be successful, you need the better players.

"The chairman and the manager will be spending big and really going for it, so it is exciting times for the players and the fans.

"But we can't take it for granted that the money will buy us success.

"We have to work for hard for it and I am sure everyone will do that."

So where might Paul get his information from? He'll find it where we find it. On the various transfer rumour sites, and perhaps closer to home...

This is nothing new of course, but does it change the way people discuss players, perhaps with less vitriol, say here on FT?

I'm curious, as someone who has perhaps directed attentions to the flaws of particular players, do I feel that at some stage either that player has read it, or it has been shared amongst the team in discussions? It's possible and not entirely unfeasible.

How would you feel if you were being dissected by customers/clients publicly about your performance in your current job. Or if you are a student perhaps your course work analysed by the broader tax paying community?

Just interested if this affects how people approach writing threads or how they contribute to them.

I'm sure a minority of players come on sites like this and read. I'll bet a smaller minority are actually affected by what they read. The others probably couldn't give a toss. Sven is no where near this or any other site though i suppose.

Criticism on here - I imagine that either fires players up or they sort of just ignore it.

Interesting to Gally being so interested in the signings though - a true fan of LCFC?

Wouldn't surprise me at all if Mr. Gallagher and a few of the other players pop on here from time to time.

There was a picture in a programme once. It was James Wesoloswki at his house anyway the laptop was facing the camera and on his laptop screen was FT homepage.

If I was a player what would matter to me is what my Manager, coach and colleagues thought.

I certainly would not waste my time winding myself up reading a forum.

They'll alaos have enough hangers on wrapped around them who will give them the heads up on anything of note so no need either.

I imagine that quite a few would look at forum boards. It is in human nature to be inquisitive and some people have personalities that wonder what people think about them. We already know that one of the players father in law posts on here from time to time so I imagine it would only be natural for them to look too.

I imagine a few must look but how much they take from it is debateable.

I can't imagine any footballer wouldn't want to be popular so obviously fan opinions count but no-matter how good they are there are always going to be those who like them and those who don't. I'm sure what Sven thinks of them is probably just a tad more important though, so I doubt we collectively as a forum have much if any effect on any of the players.

Savage said a similar thing recently at his retirement game, that he began to read the forums when he first moved to Derby but after a while didn't bother as he thought it was full of 'teenage tantrums' :P

If players can't take a bit of abuse when they play crap then they can always get another job. Somehow I think getting paid thousands of pounds a week is ample compensation for having to read a bit of vitriolic criticism on here from time to time.

Who mentioned anything to do with that?

Nice topic, very interesting in my opinion. We certainly live in an age where players and fans can, if they so choose, speak far more easily. Have often wondered whether players read these forums. I must admit that were I a player I would probably take a wee peek now and then. Though I would no doubt get bored after reading twenty threads on how I don't track back enough and my colleague is useless cos all he does is score goals the lazy numpty.

I think it would be great if players and fans could talk openly and believe it would create more of a group mentality and maybe make the players seem more real and more a part of our club like so may people say used to happen in the old days when players and fans drank together. The only problem is that most of the posters on here would probably drive the players away with inane ramblings about them not running around enough like Humeh used to do!

On a side note I have just started a Leicester City blog and at present no one sees it but me. Don't like to be self promoting but hey, I'm a hypocrite so here goes. It's at http://rumblefox.wordpress.com/ and would really like fellow fans to read it (if only to slag me off and call me a dullard).

Anyway, basically just wanted to say well done on an interesting topic and COME ON YOU FOXES!

He's only raising a point. I don't get how some people can be so negative and angry about the most minor of things :S

I'm sure some players do read the forums, if I played I probably would browse the fan sites to see what the general consensus is.
